please dont be direct but give me hints....what is the pink dot?

I don't know what the future holds for this thread, but I want to make one thing clear.
Whatever the pink dot is, it is not more mysterious than Yumbo!
;)

Sensing, Mod closure soon very soon..Got one in before the closure :)

OK OK, for those who don't play succession games or weren't around in the early days, a Brief History of Pink Dot.

2001AD, Dec 21, Winter Solstice: The first RB Succession game at CFC is begun. Charis and I both took our turns on that first day, and three lasting things occurred right off the bat:

1. Charis went first and beelined our first settler straight to the most important site, where the real action would be taking place. :hammer:

2. Charis irrigated a desert instead of a cow :smoke: over confusion on whether irrigating the cow would boost food under Despotism, and I treated it with some humor, writing a story about the Pungent Weed and the sacred cows.

3. I posted the first Dotmap(TM) in a succession game. :cooool:

The first Dotmap(TM) did not contain a Pink Dot because Charis had already settled where the Pink Dot would have gone. Our Forbidden Palace was built at Pink Dot and we won the game. The Pink Dot made its first appearance on a posted Dotmap(TM) in RBD SG3 a few weeks later.

2002, January 15: The Pink Dot is unveiled.

Our Forbidden Palace was built at Pink Dot and we won the game.

2002, January 20: The Pink Dot magic is applied to the first Variant SG, my Infantry-only variant. (No fast units: horses, tanks, etc).

We built a strong city at that site and used it as our launching point for the eventual invasion of the main continent. We won the game.

2002, January 29: The Pink Dot blesses our our Benevolent Mayans monarchy-only Variant SG.

After engaging a brutal war with the X-man for control of the north, we built our FP at Pink Dot and went on to victory.

2002, January 30: Pink Dot rescues Charis and Sirian from a Deep Deep Hole(TM) in our two-man huge map ubervariant "Cuban Isolationists" SG.

Despite the sorry-looking terrain up there, we built our FP at Pink Dot, later pulled off an 18-tech Great Library jump when we made contact with the rest of the world, established the worth of Fishing Villages(TM) and figured out the @# tech deflation mechanism, as we squeaked our way to victory.

And that was just the first month of Pink Dot!

If Firaxis can harness the power of the Pink Dot in developing Civ4, this surely bodes well for the success of the project! If not... Well, those guys are pretty smart folks. I'm positive they will tap in to the Pink Dot and its many wondrous blessings.

thanks sirian for showing me some screenshots

since i sold my computer 2 months ago, i havent played civ 3 atall.
reasons were that i thought i could get more then, then i could later.
i realize that saving a few extra bucks is worth nothing compared to playing civ 3.
so everytime i see some screenshots, i am taking back to the time when hours seemed like minutes.

anyways thanks for the x.

Oh gosh, to be a noob again, -sigh-... :p

DUDE! your so wrong, your explanation of a pink dont might be precise, but the actual reason it became a "myth" was because in the "sid vicious" succession game someone spoke of building a city on their turn on the pink dot.. the problem was, no discussion, or dot map had been created with said pink dot!

Nope.
The original post about the pink dot derived from "1000 reasons...post" and Tomoyo commented on to Sirian. I thought the pink dot was in RB3 but I was summarily slapped down by Tomoyo and told that was the incorrect pink dot. This particular pink dot was one of a pink dot variety that was never seen on a dot map. But someone believed it was. That's my interpretation of the legend.

The Pink Dot has never appeared in a game that was lost. That's why only an imaginary and unshown pink dot was talked about in Sid Vicious. That game is doomed. And the Pink Dot knew it even back then, and stayed away.

I see.
The pink has reasoning and understanding!!! Thank you Wise One! I will remember this on my next Dotmap(TM).

More highlights of the immortal Pink Dot:

2002, April 4: LOTR2, the very first Always War game:

2002, July 31: RBE DSG1, the inaugural game in the first Diety-only SG series:

2003, August 21: LK53, Diety 5CC Conquest SG:

Where's the Pink Dot in the last shot? Well, that's Munich. The city missed the Pink Dot by two tiles so I had to whip the thing, pick it back up as a settler and move it. Result: We won. :D

The real action is taking place at Pink Dot.

Brinko - what civ do you want? I will play a game in your honor.

Sirian - the pink dot never showed itself in the SGs I played back when I had free time, no wonder we never fared as great as some of your games.

Arathorn's Defiant variant is a toughie. Uh... my copy of Pink Dot installation software is out on loan. If it comes back in, I'll let you know. ;)
