OK OK, for those who don't play succession games or weren't around in the early days, a Brief History of Pink Dot.
2001AD, Dec 21, Winter Solstice: The
first RB Succession game at CFC is begun. Charis and I both took our turns on that first day, and three lasting things occurred right off the bat:
1. Charis went first and beelined our first settler straight to the most important site, where the real action would be taking place.
2. Charis irrigated a desert instead of a cow

over confusion on whether irrigating the cow would boost food under Despotism, and I treated it with some humor, writing a story about the Pungent Weed and the sacred cows.
3. I posted the first Dotmap(TM) in a succession game.
The first Dotmap(TM) did not contain a Pink Dot because Charis had already settled where the Pink Dot would have gone. Our Forbidden Palace was built at Pink Dot and we won the game. The Pink Dot made its first appearance on a posted Dotmap(TM) in RBD SG3 a few weeks later.
2002, January 15: The Pink Dot is unveiled.
Our Forbidden Palace was built at Pink Dot and we won the game.
2002, January 20: The Pink Dot magic is applied to the first Variant SG, my Infantry-only variant. (No fast units: horses, tanks, etc).
We built a strong city at that site and used it as our launching point for the eventual invasion of the main continent. We won the game.
2002, January 29: The Pink Dot blesses our our Benevolent Mayans monarchy-only Variant SG.
After engaging a brutal war with the X-man for control of the north, we built our FP at Pink Dot and went on to victory.
2002, January 30: Pink Dot rescues Charis and Sirian from a Deep Deep Hole(TM) in our two-man huge map ubervariant "Cuban Isolationists" SG.
Despite the sorry-looking terrain up there, we built our FP at Pink Dot, later pulled off an 18-tech Great Library jump when we made contact with the rest of the world, established the worth of Fishing Villages(TM) and figured out the @# tech deflation mechanism, as we squeaked our way to victory.
And that was just the first month of Pink Dot!
If Firaxis can harness the power of the Pink Dot in developing Civ4, this surely bodes well for the success of the project! If not... Well, those guys are pretty smart folks. I'm positive they will tap in to the Pink Dot and its many wondrous blessings.
