The Offical IOT Mod Brainstorming and Organisation Thread

Hey Ailed, when you gonna update the OP?

EDIT: Also is it me or is most of us Jews in the mod? Is there a reason for that, besides people requesting to have Judaism as their favorite religion?
Pretty sure Reus was trolling, though it helps create diplomatic friction.

You started this thread; the least you can do is take initiative in maintaining it.

Application form & diplotext template

Spoiler Installation instructions :
  1. Download and install Tortoise SVN.
  2. Create a folder in the BTS/Mods directory (or duplicate the existing IOT folder—make sure it's renamed or you've backed up the mod).
  3. Right-click on the new folder and select 'SVN Checkout'. For 'URL of repository', enter 'svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/civ4-iot/code/trunk', and double-check that 'Checkout directory' matches the path to your folder.
For future updates, simply right-click the folder and select 'SVN Update', or to update to a specific revision, 'TortoiseSVN > Update to revision'.

Done; we may need to do a new thread for future developments, especially once we get our hands on python.

BTW we need to address the 'music not playing in modern era' issue.

Hey I just had a stupid idea feel free to shoot it down.

Since a good majority of IOTers are American (Sorry Euros and Aussies and Reus mean no harm), why not have an IOT TSL on a USA map? I'd suggest a world scenerio, but then North America would be way too crowded to be fun

>speak of IOTers as majority Americans.
>Does not include Brazil map, home of WIM and a big nation in the Americas. :mischief:

By edict of our ability to conscript Cived to do our bidding I suggest we "hire" Cived to create a hand set map combining our homelands into a mush; a part be like Sone's home of (insert state here), Robert and I will be starting in some isles (please give me hills! please give me hills! Please give me hills!), WIM will get local jungles, the Downfall Gang will be placed in snow titles to reflect getting trolled by the RNG, etch.

Because only two IOTers live in Brazil, one who's not even in the mod presently, and no one lives in between Brazil and America. Adding Brazil would mean making America smaller, defeating the purpose on focusing just on America.

Also volunteering others who have made no indication they want to work on the mod is pretty rude. If you really want this, make it yourself.

1) May a mockery of the USA map idea and the notion that American is a term of the residents of the continent.Anyway: how many of the IOTers are actually Yankees? I suggest no to the USA map idea (the mod itself includes NC, Thor, I, Math (ok like Thor Canadian but still), WIM and Reus; two big portion to ignore. Even if there is a majority that would hinder the setting notions for the likes of not just non-Yankee IOTers but Yankee IOTers that fancy setting themselves outside the USA.

2) Yes because I am really going to force Civ to work on the mod.

Whoa friends, this is getting a bit heated. Everyone should probably calm down.

Diplomacy intro blurb: Welcome, <player nation> to our great democracy! We have withstood the fires of nuclear war, to come back from the grave. If your intentions are noble, the Enclave will be your best ally. If not, prepare for a nuclear fallout from our missiles. (Yes, yes, I know, that in 4000 BC there's no nukes.)

Couldn't find a good Enclave flag the size pointed out. Resize, I guess?
Starting techs: Max. 2
UU/UB: UU: Power Armour; requires Future Tech. It should be hilariously OP and also hilariously expensive (like, imagine, 1250? or 750?); the equivalent of GDRs from Civ5.
UB: Mobile Crawler: Increases city defence by 120%. Requires Fusion. Cost: 1250
Strategy: Rush for nukes -> apply nuclear power -> rinse and repeat
War & Peace theme:

Colour: Red, White; And Blue!
Building style: European/New World?
Unit style: Ditto
Unit voiceover: American. Obviously.
Base AI: I don't have any preferences beyond setting Mr. President's chance to nuke someone as that of Gandhi.
Cities: Oil Rig, Raven Rock, Adams Air Force Base, Navarro, Vault 0, Vault 101, Chicago Base Alpha, The Alamo, Los Alamos. The latter city names should be just America's latter cities with a lesser chance of appearing.

With the help of some file-shuffles, hotwires, and based Cossack magic, I think I've got BtS working on the laptop, so I can finally finally finally start exploring the next patch in earnest. The coming week is pretty busy so it'll be a while yet before we'll see a release, but hopefully I'll have incorporated the backlog by month's end. Highlights include the Enclave, reworked Abeille, and various strategy/cosmetic/text tweaks as per user request(s).

Next version will also herald a new thread so that control of the OP goes to the actual authors. If you see Reus, tell him to call me so we can work out reserve posts 'n spit.

P.S.: Looks like we'll get back on track too, Megs. ;)

Heh, JUST as I am about to get long term computer access myself too. This is double good news for any mod projects Thor and I are both involved in, since I can be more helpful :D

Also to answer a couple of questions:

Hey thor, can I request a few changes to my leader? I've been talking to megan and lec and I think I have a better view of what I would like for my leader/what fits me better.
Totally doable; if I recall in chat you mentioned the possibility of using both leaders as a nod to your genderfluid phase? :mischief:

Stormtroopers.
Aye, that does sound like a better setup. I think my rationale for the withdrawal was l33t Preußens living to fight another day, since I think you still earn experience even in a retreat. On that note, I've been toying with giving the regular Combat promotion line retreat bonuses to improve veteran units' survivability (one of the few genuinely interesting features in Civ5).

I still feel weird having 3 UUs while everyone else has two. Not that I only want to have two, but I am getting unfair preferential treatment imo. Should we consider letting others take a third unit if they want?
Until I've learned how to script individual unique unit lines (:mischief:) it is always a possibility. My one issue is there are several civs that still only have one UU/UB.

Honestly I think the only reason the Femecha exists is because Reus liked the graphic and wanted an excuse to use it. I can pull it if you want.

Friendly reminder to everyone that custom diplotext is my second-favourite flavouring.

Other ideas I'm bouncing around:
  • Since CivGeneral's adopted a more fascist theme for Coruscant, I'm thinking that instead of piggybacking off Terra's Fusion Plant, he gets a "Re-education Camp": replaces Jail, more effective at combatting unhappiness, culture penalty;
  • As IOT's resident African scholar/until someone uses a Sub-Saharan faction, should Civ'ed get special flavour?
  • Now that I can pick apart the Fictionalization mod, I've found a fully-animated Victor von Doom leaderhead. Given MartinLuther's current avatar...

Will this America map be the entire North America? Cause calling dibs on Newfoundland's isle as a potential base for Dhoon...

BTW: any considerations to the "flame-throwers for everyone" idea? Perhaps available with industrialisation or (if we somehow get our hands on Python) a new tech? I may get a unique flame-thrower unit using the plasma thrower from Planetfall (credits to Mech). Potential name: sidoor aile or fire/flame warrior.

Finally forgive me for the nag but can I have my traits changed from phi/pro to phi/exp? Or barring that phi/org...

That would be interesting, but I also don't really just want a gender swapped leader if EVERYTHING is going to stay the same, I really liked the Mengsk picture, and since it had marines with him it fit well with my UU, but if Emperor is going to be the exact same as Empress, then I don't really want to have him and me. So i'd rather just have Terran Empress personally.

See, now that you explained it like that, it doesnt sound so bad. Still don't like it, but it makes sense.

I like that buff to the combat promotions. Sounds pretty interesting if I can say so myself.

Not sure what you mean by that. However, doesn't my Stormtroopers already use male, German voices? Might be misremembering.

As for the latter tibit, yeah that is a good point. Don't know what else to add. :dunno:

Honestly I think the only reason the Femecha exists is because Reus liked the graphic and wanted an excuse to use it. I can pull it if you want.

Well, I like being special... :mischief:

I think there is more pressing issues with my civ right now. Like the unit art, which I can fix myself hopefully very soon.

Tell me what TSL is and I'll see. ;)

TSL is Civ 5 slang for true start location. Its basically a map where civs have pre defined spawn locations that correspond to where they exist in reality. 18 civ earth is such a scenerio that was included in vanilla Civ IV. In the case of IOT mod, I would be in Albany, Lec in NJ, Terra in North Utah, etc. We would be fighting over our homelands in control of the bedt continient.

Noted. Will look into it.

[*]As IOT's resident African scholar/until someone uses a Sub-Saharan faction, should Civ'ed get special flavour?

I can't speak for him, but I like it when Wouter gets special stuff. I encourage it, but its my bf's choice :3

[*]Now that I can pick apart the Fictionalization mod, I've found a fully-animated Victor von Doom leaderhead. Given MartinLuther's current avatar...[/LIST]

If you do that, I am going straight down to the leadherhead request form and demand someone makes a Lucina LH. I can even throw her into the fictionalization mod

Will this America map be the entire North America? Cause calling dibs on Newfoundland's isle as a potential base for Dhoon...

I think a better idea is just to make a seperate Britain plus edge of Netherlands/France plus edge of Norway scenerio for the Brits, and then a seperate Balkans scenerio. That way we cover the two most populated of the Euro regions. That still leaves out Joan but a full Europe map would just overcrowd the British Isles and I dont think that would be fun gameplaywise.

Actually with some map fiddling, we might be able to make a North America/Western Europe map that isn't too much smaller than just continental US would be.

Something like This:

bosch_st_map_north_america.jpg

but with a little bit of size fiddling.

I still think we should do a world map. If we want to solve the Europe problem then we'd just move a few people who are known for nations outside of their starting area (for example, Robert could be put in Port Hadley).
