The Order of the Knights Templar

Wahoo, we are on Youtube :)

but the problem is I'm not sure i get all you said :p

anyway, agree to put overflow on settler, whip a monument, mine that gold, build road.

for science, i'm not really sure we want to go to archery, i would rather go toward aestetic to be able to trade it. I'm afraid IW will be too expencive to be usefull for trade eventho our economy will improve.

For founding a 5th city, it must be for metal or ivory only. In the mean time our goal is to improve our economy with gold mines, scientist and cottages...

I'm wondering about getting the north west B site so we don't get outflanked by GK. Maybe run 100% cash while waiting for libraries.

What possibly could you be referring to?

just that my listening english is not as good as my reading english :)
so some (small) part of your video, i couldn't catch them.

no big deal anyway

B is probably next city of gengis.

Wait, that video was in English?! :mischief:

Nice vid, Cam.

Yep, foreign trade routes are vital. Charlie looks like the best option. I would start the road on the horses. The worker next to Const will finish cottage next turn and then can move to help finish road to horses south of Thess. Then both workers can tag team a road into Charlie there and maybe then connect up Nicaea.

After worker S of Adrian finishes cottage, I would use him to start chopping Library. I'd prefer at this point that Const just grows as much as possible, so that it can take on bulk of research and grow onto good tiles and then run 2 scientists.

I would queue up Monument in Nicaea but not whip it until pop 3. Border pop is not urgent in this city given its slow growth potential. This will keep the city at at least size 2 which will allow it to work gold/cottage FP and still maintain some growth potential. City is obviously strictly commerce for us.

Settler in Adrian and Worker in Thess are good calls.

I'm not sure GK has horses. We might consider going for HBR to set up some HAs, which will give us some muscle to either take on GK or grab some of the barb cities all over the place. Additionally we can use HBR to setup an Alpha trade. Aesths is another possibility, ofc.

Site B up north is not necessarily a blocker. We might consider an alternate placement to setup a block. Its not a very good city any way you look at it but may be necessary to secure all the land to the NE.

We survived fine! :)

Pretty much did the turnset as proposed, and took into account the feedback. Chopped out rather than whipped the Library in Constantinople as recommended. Conflicting views on city #5, I founded Antioch on 'B' in the end. Ragnar declared war on Mansa, who's since adopted Hinduism.

Notes:
Spoiler :
Opening Turn #76

As discussed in PPP and follow-up; opened borders with Ragnar, traded resources with Charlemagne, swapped city builds, etc. etc.

Turn #77

Charlemagne gets Alphabet.

Turn #78

Saladin and Mansa Musa both get Alphabet ... Mansa is not as advanced as Ragnar!

Turn #79

Ragnar goes WHEOOHRN.

We connect our Horses to the northern part of the empire.

Turns #80 - #82

Saladin and Mansa Musa swap into Organised Religion.

Adrianople: Settler > Chariot.

Ragnar declares war on Mansa Musa.

Genghis Khan gets Alphabet. He's not got Pottery and will trade either Fishing or Hunting for it. He's the worst enemy of Charlemagne and Cyrus, so making the trade might cost us a little on the diplo' front as well as the WFYABTA count.

Connect roads to Charlemagne's cities.

Nicea gets to three population, and we whip the Monument.

Turns #83 - #84

Nicea: Monument > Granary (resume).

Foreign trade routes recognised.

Saladin requests Open Borders. He's nobody's worst enemy, so we agree.

Mansa Musa swaps to Hinduism and Shrines the Kashi Vishwanath.

Thessalonica: Worker > Chariot.

We found Antioch on 'B'

Turns #85 - #86

Nicea and its Gold Mine is connected.

Constantinople's Library's done.

Charlemagne's in Organised Religion.

Ragnar is 'Pleased' with us.

maybe for next set a global investment on libraries everywhere.
trade hunting vs grannary with gengis is possible.

well I think I will have to drop out from roster...
I had some serious home issues last couple of weeks and kinda in the process of bettering (is it even word?) the situation and didn't touch civ for like forever.

still lurking though ;-)

OK ... tweaked the roster a bit. Unfortunately Tachywaxon is tied up for a few days, and has asked to be placed later in the roster. Sengir might still be having CPU issues. As noted, vranasm has devolved into a lurker!

I should be able to play when my turnset comes up.

Got it. Will post something by this evening.

Constantinople could probably do with running scienists once its grown, Adrianople can take over its design function of working capital cottages.

Antioch obviously need worker love (road and cottages).

Immediate question is whether we pursue aesthetics or go for HbR first. Chariots can take barb cities but will likely take casualties. I'd probably reckon aesthetics anyway.

Okay, back at it.

I'm torn between HBR and Aesths. Either one would probably get us to Alpha, but Aesths is quicker. However, HBR would allow us more protection and the ability to go around and grab up a bunch of barb cities, and there are a bunch. I'm very worried about GK. He will be a big problem unless he goes after Sal. Hopefully, we can hold out until we get something to bribe him with.

I don't see any real places to settle at the moment other than a marginal filler between Nople and Nicaea. Settlers don't seem a priority. Mainly units when we get them. Looks like we have the NorthEast to ourselves. Lots of land.

First adjustments are to work the gold mine in Nicaea immediately. It's what this city is for at the moment. As Pigs mentioned, Nople should have been running scientists yesterday. Adrian will switch to a cottage immediately.

Thess will build another worker at size 4 after chariot. May be settler and unit pump for time being.

Run a chariot up to Antioch in case barbs get curious.

Workers north of Nople will run a road up to Antioch and help that city.

Mainly right now we just need to push ourselves to Aesths as fast as possible and get some trades like Alpha, IW and maybe Maths. With IW, and hopefully iron somewhere, we can take barb cities. Our research and economy should get better soon, but we are quite behind at the moment

Alright. I went ahead and played on. Went the Aesths route.

Ha...this is sad on IMM:

Spoiler :

Rag of all people donates to the cause. But boy, what a gift. Too bad we settled on riverside grassland iron...ha. Still a good city though.

Sent a couple of chariots to protect Antioch and check out that barb city. Surprisingly the city was populated by loincloth dudes. Odd. Whatcha do there, Cam?

Chariots took city in just 2 turns. I razed it. It's crap and Antioch takes most of those tiles anyway: (the capture gold was most helpful though)

Spoiler :

Made some trades:

Sal:

Spoiler :

GK: (in hindsight I wish I held on to some techs with GK for a bribe. I though Maths and Mono would be enough on Mansa. it was not :()

Spoiler :

(note: I did put turn into Alpha to set up better GK trade to get Sailing too)

Mansa: (I was hesitant here due to Mansa's culture instincts and Music path leanings, but he was still several turns from finishing Construction and we were doing ok at this point)

Spoiler :

I accepted Rags request to join him on Mansa. Gives us a distant AI to bribe folks on and absolutely no one like Mansa, so no diplo hits.

Spoiler :

Charlie trade: (this was in part to get Mono to setup GK bribe that did not fly. OR is good anyway for multiple reasons and Maths goes quickly anyway)

Spoiler :

Current Tech Situation: (looking much better :))

Spoiler :

So....

1) We are close on Lit. TGL should be built quickly in Nople. Have some chops working. A mish whip is nicely setup as well as setting up a Sword whip. GS arrives right in time to switch city to production. Don't mind a couple of whips in this city for good OF.

2) Whipped worker into Settler in Thess. Finish after Sword. Not sure where to send him though. Really good city W of Antioch (fish, cow, copper) but will not make nice with GK. We could just put coastal city near horses to start working NE. We don't have coastal city yet anyway and may setup island city later.

3) Nicaea will have culture issues with Charlies stupid city but I chopped forest out from under his nose to get up very quick Library there. Started Parth for culture or fail gold. Doubt we get it, but worth a shot with marble.

4) Adrian should whip Barracks in 2 turns. Put 1 turn in and switch to Sword for 1t, then whip Barracks, finish Sword.

5) Adrian and Thess can build Swords to send to barb cities. One due N may be crap too and better resettled, but other barb cities look pretty good.

6) Nople stalled by switching corn to cottage, but can grow immediately when unhappiness wears off.

7) Send 1 Nicaean worker back up North to help out. City only needs 1 worker for now.

Genghis - I have no problem using Lit to bribe him in on Mansa as long as he doesn't get Maths first. We need to bribe him into war. Looking he hasn't gone fist mode yet, but I expect it any moment.

I assume Music next. We should get it easily and TGL. Only GK has Monarchy, but we do need it somehow here soon. May just tech it after Music or at least set up a trade. Then look to things like Currency and CoL/CS.

edit: Oh..and the religion spread here is seriously hosed. Still no Xtian an any cities but Nople. We can build mishes though now. I would send first one to Nicaea.

Sounds like a very productive set. I guess I'm up, but I'm also up in sgotm, so I'm not sure when I can give it a good look. Maybe I can swap with pigswill?
