I think that message is usually one of the "hidden modifiers", but BULL shows the hidden modifiers.

Yep, it was pure genius how we lured the AIs into thinking we were weak.

Thanks for the PPP, looks good to me. Please proceed. ;)

Looks like excellent work - well done.

The Barb's had Archery at set-up, so no good explanation for the Warrior defenders. Can't explain the lack of viral religious spread ... looks like it's also affecting the AI, although Samarqand's Judaism is a curious one.

I take it that with the strategy-layer-sign that Constantinople's earmarked for The Great Library which is sensible enough to me, but it has a lot on its plate. A Constantinople Temple could be handy - we're 'Spiritual' and in OR, so it's a fairly quick 'build'. I like the Monastery - it'd be good to spread the faith when we get half a chance.

Actually, I think Constantinople is quite open for TGL....other than maybe mish spreading. However, I have 1 mish already setup for a 2popper into TGL, so once we spread it another city can take on that duty. Thess can start unit building after the Settler. Same for Adrian.

I recommend Nicaea first for the mish due to culture needs and boost on Parth. However, we could spread to...say...Adrian first and then whip another quick mish out of that city.

Did you convert to a WB save at some point, Cam?

As nocho is busy in Sgotm and no-one else has volunteered this is a Got It.

Objectives for this set:
Build Glib in Constantinople.
Research Lit>Muzak
Spread Christianity
Build Swords
Try to bribe GK into a war (probably use lit with mali the most likely victim).

We can get lit in 3 if we build some research.

A plan.
Constantinople: research>whipxmis>Glib.
Adrianople (no rax): research>xmis>xmis
Thess: Sword>Sword>Sword
Nicea: Parthenon
Antioch: gran>lib.
2 chariots go exploring, 1 stays home.
Swop to OR once lit is in (cost considerations).

edit: Obscure micro point: Consta's missionary has 8h, if we swop to OR before whipping it we presumably get a 1 pop whip (37h instead of 30).

We are already in OR, Pigs. I may be misunderstanding your last point, but OR has no effect on the production of mishes. Ofc, it will impact the OF of said whipped mish. (mish will be a 2popper)

Thess: Don't forget settler. We could actually 2pop the sword now which will complete settler, but may affect Lit research. Probably not necessary. We really aren't in that much of a hurry for settlers and swords. But finish the settler after the current sword.

Well, do finish the rax in Adrian at some point.

If Antioch is size 4 at least after the Gran, I would consider another worker first. We are going to really need them, especially after taking barb cities. 2pop into Library if you want or chop it. We may want to start a road to the NE at some point.

I'm a little hesitant about sending away the chariots in the short term. Maybe one to the West. The medic chariot can follow the swords to the NE. Keep swords inside borders for now (or near new horse city) until we have at least 4 of them...enough to take a city.

Everything sounds fine otherwise.

I agree on Thessalonica's Settler - but where do we have in mind for it? I assume somewhere along that 'Horse river' to our north east? It's got no food resource, but the Grasslands are farm-able.

Best of luck! :)

I've looked at the demographic chart and we are last on every criteria :(
our best hope is that we have probably the most available space open yet (NE)

I'm ok with the plan
In addition, with swords, we should try to take the 2 barb cities in the east. the north one can be razed

Played 10 turns up to 100bc. Fairly uneventful and pretty much as planned.

325. Saladin declares on GK! :D.

300. ToA bidl.
Whip xmis (christian missionary ofc) in Consta.

275. GK sez don't trade with Sal. Rebuffed.
GS establishes an academy in Consta.
Lit>music.
Consta xmis>Glib.

250. Christian Adrianople research>xmis.
Thess sword>sword.
Rags gets peace with MM. We're all alone in this one.

225. MM adopts bureaucracy.

200. Sal asks us to fight GK: declined.
GK asks us to fight Sal: declined.

175. Consta Glib>sword.
GK demands mono: agreed.

150. GK builds SoZ.
Adrianople xmis>xmis (xmis to Nicea, 4t to get there)

125. Chuck builds Glite.

100. Sal sez don't trade with GK: rebuffed.

That's it for now. Music due in 7. We've got 2 swords, another next turn. We get a settler next turn. Nicea converts next turn but still 20t from Parthenon.

Couple of potential deals:

A save:

We are raising our GNP, not that bad :)

Some tought for next set:
const could build National epic next.
we can stop the clam trade with charlie and get wine instead.
next city: 1W of horse?

not sure we need monarchy now but it always help to have a tech for not that mutch.

For mansa peace treaty, I see no good reason except for future tech trade to make peace with him :/

Reasons for peace treaty. MM could waltz a stack towards us (unlikely but not impossible), he could also bribe another AI onto us, maybe GK once he finishes his war with Sal. The downside is that giving up lit could jeopardise music GA,

Mansa is blocked from us. Also, no one likes him and he likes no one. No concern on keeping him at war. We can bribe others on him at our leisure. Rags is going to attack someone again soon. Could be Mansa again, but likely Sal.

The Rags trade looks great. Switch Adrian back to Cows now to grow into new happiness. Switch to HR next turn.

what are we going to do with great artist?
we can store him until we need a GA (no hurry, we are spiritualist)or use it on nicae to convert florence and eat some lands in charly cities.

btw, gold and corn can be roaded for more trades.

Who is up?

(Crosspost with astre's above)

Thanks for the turnset pigswill. Nice to see The Great Library in our hands so quickly! Shame that Florence has pushed back our borders ... I was hoping it'd go the other way.

My thought would be to have Constantinople building less stuff (maybe Christian Temple?) and working the cottages and running extra scientists. Not criticising past choices, but proposing that's where I'd probably like to see it going. Possible Golden Age might impact what happens in the close future.

It'd be great to have another reasonable :hammers:-oriented city other than Thessalonica, or somewhere that we could whip-regrow.

I'd vote for the Monarchy deal ... one happiness resource is a tough environment to grow an empire, so the sooner we see an improved Government civic, the better.

Golden Age or Drama bulb with the Great Artist? Maybe merge into a culture-pressed city? I guess Golden Age.

(I am going to be out of contact for a couple of days due to work-related travel).

Ok, got it.

- Trade for HR, switch
- Connect a corn for health
- Assuming a happy is more important than health, switch wine for crab in trade with BK

Cities
Constantinople: sword-NE
Thessalonica: settler-sword-research
Adrianople: xmas-xmonastery; work cow
Nicaea: parthenon; get GH mines up
Antioch: granary, library

Tech
Music
Currency next

Qs
- Where are we going to settle? Foodless 1W of horse at rivermouth for more cottages?
- So we'll attack a barb city with 4 swords. Which one and keep or raze? All 3 seem to be located on hills. :hmm:

I would settle 1N of horse where warrior is standing, off river and 1 off coast but it gets bananas as a food source and keeps all river tiles for cottages.

Might be worth adding a couple of chariots to swords, they'd likely die against healthy archers but could finish off a wounded archer.

The plan looked fine to me when i looked at it previous time.
Sorry, forgot to express it :p

on city placement, i already express my preference for 1W
My reasons: because it is closer to cap and we will keep barbarian city anyway.
