Ok, so I modded the game a little so I start with an extra scout on Diety. But even with the base game, it would work by building scouts.
Idea is very simple: you open with scout.
When you declare surprise war, your scouts get 5 movement.
Guess what: the AI has NO WAY to account for the 5 movement of the scout. What does this mean? Their builders and settlers DON'T RUN FAR AWAY ENOUGH.
So you can steal like crazy.
Open with like two scouts, then a builder. Get agoge, and spam slingers.
Use the builders and settlers you capture to emphasize MONEY.
When you get archery, upgrade 4 or 5 slingers into archers.
Then spam warriors with an occassional builder.
When you archer rush, you've got 4 or 5 4-move archers and 4-move warriors. This can wipe out a civ. Don't. Instead, cripple them down to one or two cities.
This is now your slave civ. This civ is now your "Surprise War" Declaration target for the rest of the game. You leave them alive so that out of every 30 turns, 10 of these turns gives you double movement for all of your units. (Super fast Builders and Settlers too!)
The key to the immortal rush is this: have 10 or 12 warriors before Iron Working. Try to get as much money as possible from trades and from your unique improvement.
Then when you get iron working, start upgrading those warriors. This will give you the chance to spend the money you saved up, saving you a huge amount of production.
On Diety, on a huge map with lots of forests, Pangea, legendary start option, and 18 civs, ended Ancient age with golden age, a massive military (10 immortals and 5 archers), and 8 CITIES. Magnus chop whenever possible.
Keep in mind: Your immortals can't kill Scythia. But they can kill everyone else.
For the production to do this in the early game, you need lots of forests. It's amazing what you can accomplish with enough forests in this game.
