The Peshawar Lancers II

On second thought, I guess you can do that. I was mainly concerned about FL-level expansion. And sorry, Joan, for not reading your post.

It's ok.

Slavic Kingdom*

Lutogniew Ratković knocked on the door of Vladimir Igantieff’s office. He hadn’t seen his new monarch for a long time. He had been one of the first to rally to Vladimir’s banner and was well rewarded for it with an ennoblement and a position as first councillor. He had just returned from a journey across the conquered region and was about to report about his findings.

“Enter” a voice on the other side of the door called out to him.

Lutogniew opened the door and walked into the office. It was decorated in a way you wouldn’t expect from the monarch of a ethnocratic state based on slavery and the worship of Malik Nous but it was what he had expected of Vladimir. It was a spacious office filled with natural light. On the east and west side of the office were large windows that looked out over the city and the surrounding area. The rest of the, white, walls were lined with black ebony bookcases. These cases were filled with books ranging from classical literature from before The Fall to study books about a variety of topics. In between the bookcases and the books stood an assortment of art any museum would envy. Statues, paintings and other artefacts from cultures all around the world could be seen. Directly opposite to the door stood a large desk, of the same black ebony and behind this desk stood a large chair in which Vladimir Obromovich Igantieff was seated.

“Lutogniew, my friend” Vladimir exclaimed while walked from behind his desk to greet his right hand man “How are you? Did you have a good journey?”
“I am fine and the journey was also”
“Good, good” Vladimir responded “you have to give me the details directly” Vladimir guided Lutogniew to the east window were to fauteuils and a small table stood. “Sit down” Vladimir ordered Lutogniew with a friendly voice “you want a drink?” he asked already pouring a glass of high branded Vodka from before The Fall.
“I would love a drink” Lutogniew answered while he sat down.
Vladimir handed him a glass and said “Now, start reporting”

“We completely control Oezbekistan and the parts of Kazakstan below the border. We have also taken control of the western parts of Kirgistan and Tadzjikistan and the new nobily have been given control of the most important regions. There is still some resistant but nothing more than expected and it isn’t endangering our hold on the area. Furthermore the first slave transit points have been established. However, these transit points are very crude and still need investments to be able to fully provide the northern tribes with slaves.”
“Hmm, our treasury has been thouroughly drained by the campaign. I’m not sure that we have enough to invest in these transit points.”
“Not?” Lutogniew asked surprised “I thought we still had a significant treasury?”
“We did” Vladimir smiled “But since I’ve sent out Rostislav Siemiłich to Turkemistan and Czesław Ostrenkov to the west, both at the head of armies, to quickly expand our influence in the region with as goal the creation of two new provinces into our kingdom. The treasury isn’t as full as it was”
Lugnatiew looked thoughtfully “Is that wise Vladimir?” he asked “Wouldn’t it be smarter to increase or hold on our current regions. If we invest large sums into infrastructure we can quickly expand our income. And our current army is only capable of maintaining law and order. They won’t be able to stand against an invasion.”
“That’s true” Vladimir responded “but as you said, we have control of the most important regions and the current resistance is not endangering. We currently lack the resources to provide the northern tribes with an indefinite supply of slaves. If we want to keep their raids into our lands to a minimum we need an large base of supply. Thus the reason to expand.”
Lutogniew still wasn’t convinced “I agree with you explanation that we need a larger basis but currently we have enough to supply the northern tribes for at least four decades if not more. These expansions cost money which we currently lack. If we would enlarge our economy we would have a larger income within a few years, leaving enough time to increase our supply capacity. The current stability might not be a problem but at least set up more transit points.”
Vladimir look thoughtfully “You make a good case. I will however not call either Rostislav or Czesław back but I could cut back on their military budgets. I will use the freed money to invest in some transit points.”
Vladimir took a sip from his Vodka.
“I’ve sent Ziemowit Tomiłaka to the south.”
“To the Afghan tribes?” Lutogniew wondered “Those barbarians? Why? All they do is fight among themselves. They aren’t interested in anything foreign.”
“You never know. I sent him to the tribes carrieing gifts.” was the answer.
“So you spent even more money that could otherwise be used for infrastructure investments?” Lutogniew asked confused.
“Well not much, just a bit to the most northern tribes to make sure they keep their attenion turned southwards.” Vladimir smiled “Off course, on the long run I intend to influence the whole region. They would make excellent slave raiders, wouldn’t you think?”
“Yeah, I guess, you’re right” Lutogniew said unsure
“Off course I am” Vladimir said with a boyish grin “Now, let us stop talking politics and start enjoy this vodka and talk about the future”

1. You already called your nation Samarkand.
2. You'll need 20 EP in order to SOI Afghanistan.

1. You already called your nation Samarkand.

I marked my capital as Samarkand... I'm playing the same nation as in PL 1, can't you change it?

2. You'll need 20 EP in order to SOI Afghanistan.

yeah I know that... I meant if it was possible to spend that in several turns.

1st turn: 1 EP
2nd turn: 10 Ep
3rg turn: 9 EP ?

Or you could just spend 20EP all at once.

Farisight, there aren't enough territories and too many nations to expand like crazy (not to mention half the world is kaput).

I guess my main rationale for adding in so many NPCs was to prevent Fiat Lux-style space-filling empires. I would recommend hoarding up infrastructure for the first few turns or so, then using them to annex the nearest NPC or conquer virtually everything in the surrounding area.

I like Farsight's thinking. I definitely disliked the massive, sprawling empires in Fiat Lux.

You only say that because you're getting conquered! :p

Seriously, though. The only game breaking part about it was only done by the two most isolated countries. It wouldn't have happened if there were any other countries in the southeast and southwest corners of the map.

Well, the fact that you had something like $700 more than the 2nd most player, and that you two were allied, made the game just a little bit unfair. :p

Yes. Yes I am. :p

On a more serious note...

Manifesto of the Danish Liberation Coalition said:
People of New Denmark! While we continue our quest for regional dominance, we must also expand inwards! Infrastructure must be developed along with our armies. Under the Liberation administration, the citizens of New Denmark can expect;

-A strong, centralized government based in Gao, our administrative capital.
-The creation of a strong, efficient, and cheap transit system throughout the regions of our nation.
-A strong, well-trained army that can bring us to new frontiers and defend our homeland from attack
-The creation of strong diplomatic ties with our neighbors to the north
-And finally, we promise that the poor will receive state welfare, will be cared for, and will be provided for. New Denmark leaves no man behind!

In the fields surrounding Chihuahua, the capital city of Comancheria in Exile, Buffalo Hump & several of his colleagues ride out for a private conversation between friends; soon, they begin discussing national policy

Buffalo Hump- That is a good point, my friend- enough time has passed since the fall for merchant vessels to sail the oceans of the world without an undue amount of fear; indeed, I have received word that we are not the only major native state to emerge from the chaos. New Inca has arisen in the mountains of Peru, far, far to the south of us. I am contemplating sending envoys there to negotiate an alliance with them- the natives of the Americas should stick together.
Agiati- You are correct, my friend, but linguistic difficulties may prevent such an alliance from occurring- no one among us can speak the language of the Inca.
Geronimo- But many of us are fluent in Spanish, and after living under Spanish rule for several centuries, it is only reasonable to assume that many of them are fluent in Spanish as well. Actually, given how little we know of their nation, it is entirely possible that Spanish is the official language of their domain.
Buffalo Hump- True, my friend, true. Alright; it is decided- we shall send representatives to the Inca to cultivate an alliance. Geronimo, would you be willing to represent Comancheria in our talks with the New Incans?
Geronimo- Of course, my friend.
Buffalo Hump- Thank you, Geronimo. Now, Agiati, I believe you have previously expressed concern over Comancheria’s food supply?
Agiati- Yes, I have. The cold hard truth is that, while our lifestyle was much more sustainable than that of many other nations of the world, it can no longer support us. Before the fall, the Buffalo that made up much of our diet was already scarce due to the efforts of European colonists & American settlers, but the majority of those left have since been wiped out by the fall. Only a few wild buffalo have been sighted in our lands over the past two years, and the few herds that we have managed to coax into Mexico during the Second Comanche-Mexican War grow thinner & less in number by the day. Unless a miracle occurs, it is likely that the Buffalo will be gone forever, & with them the last hope of preserving our traditional way of life.
Buffalo Hump- Your words are sobering, Agiati. But what else can we do? We kept little livestock before the fall, & gathering fruits, nuts, & other greens cannot support the people in our lands. We tried limited farming & ranching prior to the fall, but our people have yet to master the art of agriculture. The farms maintained by the Nahua cannot produce enough to close the gap between the supply of food & the needs of the people; we need to make up the difference through trade, or by acquiring more land.
Agiati- Ah, but all lands near us have populations of their own, & those populations are barely managing to feed themselves. We appear to be in quite the bind.
Geronimo- Perhaps I can convince the Inca to sell us some of their domesticated animals during the negotiations.
Agiati- They have people to feed, too. No, if we are to survive, we will need to find other sources of food. I know that the Comanche have traditionally eschewed fish & fowl, but look at the fortunes of the Comanche in comparison to the ethnic groups within our lands that do consume them- why, despite keeping very little of their crop for themselves, the Nahua, while not exactly thriving, are surviving upon a diet of Spanish poultry & Pacific fish. Abandoning the taboo against certain foods would certainly help to reduce the hunger crisis plaguing our citizens.
Buffalo Hump- You speak wisdom, young Agiati. I shall have the message delivered to all corners of our nation- with luck, the people will not put up significant resistance to the change. I shall also summon the brightest citizens in our lands to the Capital- I have a plan that may eliminate our food crisis altogether- we shall attempt to tame the buffalo.
Geronimo- Tame the Buffalo? My friend, the buffalo have thus far resisted all attempts at domestication- why what makes you think that this endeavor will be any different?
Buffalo Hump- Because we have resources that we did not have in the past; our new lands are poor in food, but they are rich in mineral resources & other materials that are coveted by many outside our borders- we can use these to coax experts from other nations into Comancheria, and have them lend their experience & expertise to our efforts. We shall devote the best and brightest among us to the task; we simply have to succeed, for if we do not, the food crisis will collapse our nation, and the proud citizens of Comancheria shall surely be crushed under the heels of foreign powers.

The Theocracy of Rome would like to offer an alliance to all Catholic nations (If we can only contact the Old World, that's just Levante. If I can contact the new world, I think it's also Brasilia and California, correct me if I'm wrong)

Yup, us Brazilians would be great with an alliance with Holy Rome if we have contact

For gameplay reasons, I'll say yes and allow inter-continental contact.

Yay! I guess we have some telegraph lines or something...
