The Pokemon Go Craze

Like I said no need for special rules because a pedestrian can be determined to be liable for a car accident already. Walking out into traffic while playing Pokemon Go would definitely make one liable.

I'd rate it somewhere between 17^34 and evolution in praxis.

I mean, a human being's death is always a tragedy, but come on..

I think the only good thing will be the amount of exercise people get compared to staying home nad playing video games.

And then eventually we'll probably get "Nintendo stock rallies after investors realizes pretty much every non-Alphabet company involved is under direct or indirect Nintendo ownership."

And that a third to half of a zillion is still good money

Direct from Nintendo:

"Because of this accounting scheme, the income reflected on the Company’s consolidated business results is limited. [...]
All of the above are reflected in the financial forecast ending March 31, 2017 as set forth on April 27, 2016.
Taking the current situation into consideration, the Company is not modifying the consolidated financial forecast for now."

They'd be committing a breach of fiduciary duty if they actually expected the financial forecast to change.

I don't hate Pokémon Go.
I'm just disappointed that so many people get so excited about a game that I think is weak.
It's the same disappointment I have for bad TV shows/movies that are popular.
Often popular means the exact opposite of high quality entertainment.
For a man with taste that exceeds the typical schmuck, popular almost always means not good enough.
I wish the masses would demand more from their games.

I am very smart you see

I wonder what the reaction is going to be when the first legendary is released next month at the Pokemon worlds convention. Will it be annoyance or excitement? (Annoyance in that the first one will only be available to those in the San Francisco area) or excitement about how these events are handled - guess we will see

Didn't they say at SDCC that they weren't releasing a legendary until the game was fully out worldwide?

By Worlds Con next month seems a short time frame to get it everywhere.

And Lay Lay: yes, popular and elitist are often opposites.

Did they say that specifically? If so thats a bummer :( - I had been hearing rumors from some people involved with organizing the convention next month that there would be something special there Go-related as well. Ah well, no harm no foul

"Fully out worldwide" is a pretty fluid concept though. The Windows app store supports 100+ languages, and a quick Google search doesn't even turn up the number of languages supported by iOS or Google.

Even fairly big markets can be a major investment - China has all kinds of special rules about what maps and mapping technology you're allowed to include in apps in their region. Apps I develop are typically localized to whatever languages are appropriate, and then released to every region of the world except China, as it's too much of a hassle to comply with their censorship.

Plus the Google app store isn't really a thing in China anyway, and I'd be surprised if Niantic released pogo on the miui app store.

Yeah, I assume that "worldwide" has an asterisk beside it for countries where mapping tech is restricted, countries that are anti-google, etc.

Though of course, at least one part of China already has the game. But it'S Hong Kong, so yeah.

Dictator Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela said that Pokémon Go creates a culture of violence and death that will create monsters.
