So I think at this point it should have crossed everyone's mind at one point or another that with the DLC and Firaxis constantly comparing G&K to BtS, if CiV will ever actually live to see a second traditional expansion. What does everyone think?

Overall, the vast majority believe there will be another expansion, but I don't see how they would do it. More DLC, almost certainly, but I just can't see enough room in the game for another expansion. The ideas people have had in that thread for an additional expansion are underwhelming too. They are either completely unfeasible for an expansion and would require a complete reworking of the game's very basic mechanics (city happiness and health, for instance) or rely mostly on bringing back random events or expanding the future era. Neither of which seems very appealing to me or is enough to justify a whole new expansion. Since Civ V left out religion and espionage, it wasn't a shock they would create an expansion to bring them back, but what else is there to add? Corporations? Nobody seemed to think that highly of them anyway. I'm still waiting for one good idea of what could be the theme of a new expansion.

Adding the UN, random events and quests, more maps and playability options, scenarios, expanding the modern and future era (corporations included), maybe just lots more units, resources, techs, wonders and civs, etc? Maybe new civ traits?

If Firaxis was going to add new civs solely via Gods and Kings DLC, I don't think they'd cover all the civs they'd want in Civ V. Ergo, there probably will be a second expansion...
 
Not that long ago there were threads on how there wont be an expansion, and then we got the wonderful announcement of GAK. So I belive anything's possible. :)

I also think it's realistic possibility, there could be features that would be cool but not overcomplicated and would go smoothly with the current design and core of Civ V.

Expanded united nations,

different unit graphics for continents (asian, european, african, south-american graphic sets)

pollution (let's say when industrial era starts, factories and cities without any forest tiles would suffer some sort of penalty, could be fought off with specific buildings and planting of forests. I think would go smoothly with Civ V)

And of course a couple of nice units and civs. Not necessary for 9 brand new civs, as we'll gonna get more DLC anyway after GAK (confirmed by 2k representatives at Pax)
 
I always had my doubts we'd even get a first expansion, so I'm overjoyed G&K came and now actually dare to dream of a second.

Out of what we had in BtS, I've pretty well going to get all that I've wanted back by the time G&K comes out. I wasn't a fan of corporations in BtS, didn't like the way they were a sort of a replacement for latter-day religion, and was relieved and glad something similar wasn't tried with G&K. If something like that did come back in a second expansion, I'd like to see a whole new mechanism try to mimic late capitalism.

What I'd more like to see is the politics fleshed out, hopefully along two axes – stability versus rebellion/civil war, and maybe trying to develop, and tie that in with, a more deeper system of political management looking at the trade offs between centralised control, and more “laissez faire” decentralised approaches to civ/political management.
