How do songs for commercials and use in films get bought? This is in reference to bands that 'sell out' when their music is used for businesses and such.

You ask for the rights to a song. The label that owns it usually, occasionally the artist. they might say (rarely) "use it". other times "use it if you pay me/us _____ [oftentimes multiple 0s]). some more times, "NO! I/We oppose whatever you are trying to do with our music."

Why is Portugal the only Western European nation without a 97%+ literacy rate?

Do you want a more-detailed answer than "Portugal is less developed than the rest of western Europe"?

Yes, that would be much appreciated.

:)

Are there people in the world who actually think Drew Barrymore is hot? Is it just me, or is she put into roles that should be for "hot" actresses?

There are, but she really doesn't "go for hot" these days.

Well I was just watching the "wedding singer" and I still don't think she was hot in "those" days (a decade ago). I'm so confused. When I see her I forget why I'm attracted to women...

Used to, cute too. But it seems to be only skin deep and that won't cut it for the longer term.:(

Salazar. He explicitly used education as a political weapon. Mostly against his colonies, but it would seem against Portugal too. If the masters children are the only ones to be educated, they become the only possible choices for the next generation of masters. Almost a cast system.

Basically he was a lot more old-school feudal than some of the namby-pamby "white mans burden" colonial punters.

I'm in a relationship, we've been dating for about 2 months or so now, and it started it out like relationships usually do. You feel strongly about the other person, and then you get to know them better, become better friends, hang out, etc. Well she started out early on almost immediately after we became "official" with the "i love you" line. In highschool i made the mistake of using this without having a full grasp of its implications, boldness, and so on. But anyways, I went along with it, and started saying the same thing since she started saying it. I just feel like the "magic" has faded, and i liked her a lot from the start, but i wouldn't call it "love". Now i have recently seriously thought about breaking up with her, and it is tough because im at a small college, and we hang out with the same group of friends, so i'd be living with this decision and everyone elses' judement on it for a while. The thing is, i've been dwelling on it for a while now, and its gotten to the point of me not being able to get much work done because im always worrying, and want to just end it, and at the same time i have to hang out with her and sort of pretend everything is fine.

First of all, any advice would be much appreciated. I originally wanted to break up with her over winter break, which would be by text-message since im no good at speaking, but I could speak my mind truthfully and less painfully (for both of us) than if it was in person. But i've also heard from many this method is cowardly, not honorable, lame, etc. And considering the tightness of our shared friends, this is something i need to consider. Thanks for any advice :)

Yeah, first of all, bail on the txt-break up idea, no girl deserves that. Instead send a heart felt email! ;)

And I would definitely do it over winter break, when there won't be so much drama in your face that you will do something you will regret. When you do it, make sure it's done on good terms and for the love of god make sure your friends understand why you broke up with her and don't make it a situation where they end up taking sides.
