What's the purpose of the little key between the Windows key and right control?

I just messed around with it, and it looks like it brings up the menu for the rightclick mouse button. So if you were stuck with a computer without a mouse, you could still try to navigate through the things you need to do.

Is the word 'Oriental' considered racist when used to describe a person?

Anglo-American difference.

First off asian de facto means oriental in the US whereas it means sub-contential in the uk. Secondly there is a history of racism against east-asians in the US there isnt on this side of the pond.

Thus over here oriental just describes east asians where over there the term is loaded.

What other words can people in the UK say, but Americans can't (on account of being "loaded.")?
Can you say the "n" word? Can you refer to someone as "colored?" Or is it just 'oriental?'

Coloured would just be wird. A word that was not used much in the UK but was in SA and the south of the US. People would be more inclined to think you were a freak than a biggot. N1gger would mean the same.

Words are strange. When I was a kid my best mates were half-cast, now they are mixed race.

Orential isnt a term of abuse in the UK. In fact the School of Oriental and African Studies would be just about the most PC place in the country.

The only time I hear the term "oriental" in America is in reference to food. Things like an oriental chicken salad, oriental salad dressing, etc.

Sure.

Imagine that asian means India/ Pakistani/ Bangledeshi/ Nepali, of whom there are lots more of in the community. Therefore Oriental is used simply to specify SE asian, since there are far less SE asians than there are sub-contential asians.

There's this dude at school who's quite literally the college's only (neo)conservative. He likes to write editorials about how liberals are facists and going to make America a one party state.

Why the hell would you go to college somewhere so blue and write stuff that's basically gonna make everyone think you're the biggest twatter on the planet?

Basically, he has a defective brain. Tell him to get a transplant.

Oriental is considered derogatory where I live. Most Asians prefer to be called Asian (though this is rather absurd. Israeli = Aborigine = Chuckchi?) or their nationality.

He's standing up for what he believes in. It's unpopular, but there you go. If he isn't persuasive he won't change that many minds.

I'm sure he thinks the same of you.

You basically just proved the guy's point.

No, not really. His "reasoning" was that liberals were being facists and assaulting the first amendment by supporting the Fairness Doctrine. The supposed reason for this is because "liberal radio" has no market, and the Democrats are somehow trying to make "conservative" radio stations go off the air by running this "failed programming." He then went on to the point that the media bashing bush and people like Limbaugh balanced it out for the past eight years balanced it out, but now that Obama was in power it was an attempt to install a Stalinest dictatorship, and then went on to assert that net neutrality was the Democrat's way of controlling free speech.

It was just a wall of sheer stupidity...

Like i said...

If that's what you think then don't pay any attention to it. What do you want him to do?

Do you not think the fairness doctrine is stupid? If the republicans did such a thing I'm sure everyone would be complaining ten times more than Rush or anyone is, that, "OMG BUSH ARE HITLER!".

Have a little more sense would be nice. Or to just pass along whatever he's smoking.
If you felt so inclined you could write a counter-editorial. Like I said before, if you're persuasive people will agree with you. Besides, wouldn't you rather have him defeated in the open marketplace of ideas than just having him stop talking?

No one is actually pushing the fairness doctrine.
That's not really true. A few senators and former President Bill Clinton. It'll never get re-instated though, unless it's very well disguised.
