New Hampshire law dictates that they must hold their preselection a week before any other state, yet Iowa law dictates that they must hold their preselection 8 days before New Hampshire. How does that work?

Really? Wow that's great!, I'm using that as a random fact to throw into a conversation ... next time I talk to someone

Oh, can somebody explain to me how putting grit on the roads helps melt the ice- it was almost explained to me in school, but my science teacher decided to keep me ignorant instead...

salt lowers the melting point of water, meaning it would have to be a few degrees colder to freeze;thus it helps melt the ice.

New Hampshire has the first primary election. Iowa is a caucus, not an election.

Ionic substances rip water molecules from their cellular structure, thus melting the ice

Here we can ask questions that are swirling in our midsts, but will not require reems of discussion to cover.

Article 1. Is the use of the "word" tho, an accepable substitute for though?

Why do you find it necessary to uselessly start new threads when an existing one reaches 1000 posts? And my followup question: do you think you can stop doing that?

1.Yes, its due to the forum rules, threads gets locked at 1000 posts

2.Yes, someone has to start a new thread; why not me?

I can't be arsed to look, if its not clearly there, its clearly a rule the moderators use.. there have been many many threads locked at 1000 posts. Thats nothing to do with me, I just like starting them.

Do you try an irritate with your posts?

There's plenty of threads way past 1000 posts... All the major mods in the Civ3 forum do and I think the Ask An Economist thread in OT does too...

Nope, locked and into thread two at post 400~

Why do you think there have been 20 Babe threads, 6 creatonism Vs. Evolution... tons of Listening thread...

Mods close them at roughly 1000 posts, and a new one can be started

It's because you open a new one, and the mods see that, and close the old one!

If you look on other forums on this site, you'll find other threads much much larger than 1000 posts.

Not quite: ionic substances disrupt the crystalline lattice of ice, making it more fluid.
Another question from cappin Dyslexia -

"But" and the placement of commas. A pair of commas denoting a subordiant clause would normally be placed so that the sentence would read if the commaed clause was removed. This doesnt seem to hold with "but".
A subordinate clause separated by commas is just that, but if you want to link your sentences together with other words then you're no longer simply adding subordinate clauses in with commas but using a different structure.

Question: Are you arguing just because you want to annoy people?

Often thread is closed first and a new thread is opened after, it's not always the other way.

Do you find long signatures annoying, or are they fine (=is mine annoying to have there).

I don't mind long ones, just flashy ones. Mine is a bit long, but not at all flashy.

How does one weave fabric?

The same way one weaves anything else.

I don't think grit melts the ice. (I'm perfectly fine with being wrong about that.) My understanding was always that sand and such simply helps maintain traction while the ice is still there. Salt raises the melting point, so it actually does melt the ice, but the sand is there to compensate for what the salt can't do.

What does 'writing in' a candidate mean? I've seen it referred to on CFC, but I've never been quite sure what it means.
