I think that in Civ4 you should be able to control a "Red Button" after the discovery of a modn tech ("Doomsday Devices"?). The button is placed where the normal unit control buttons are, and it is flashing red. It should be placed right next to the "Go" button. Or, it could be placed below the "Palace View - Victory Status - Espionage - SpaceShip" buttons to the right of the dataview.

When you press it, you lauch all of your items and then, depending on how many weapons you have, you get a neat 3D animation like the intro video that shows the world blowing up in pretty colors.

Well, it might prove interesting...

 You're a madman Hammurabi, You'll never get away with this!
:king: Oh, I think I will Mr. Bond, It's a pity you won't be alive to see it. MILITARY ADVISOR, THROW HIM IN THE PIT!
:salute: At once sir.
:king: I hope you're good with a Tank Mr. Bond, my Spearmen are in need of a good laugh!
 MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Actually, has anyone here played 'Superpower'? In that, you click on the 'Strategic Warfare' tab, and it brings up a Red Button under glass. You first click on this button to slide the glass back, which then allows you to access your nuclear weapons stockpiles-and assign them targets! When you are done, you can then click on the red button, which will launch ALL of your targetted missiles! I remember I wanted to vent some steam, as China, and just launched a whole heap of nukes at London, Riyadh, Sydney, Singapore, Los Angeles and Las Vegas-it was soooo cool! That button just made all the difference, because it really FELT like you had all of this doomsday weaponry at your fingertips! At any point, you could replace the glass, and bring the world back from oblivion but, once you pushed that button, the genie was unleashed (because, of course, the targets and their allies launch all of their nukes at YOU!!!!)

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.

Would this red button simulate the Vogons building a hyperspace bypass through the Cyrina- Cygnus arm of the galaxy?

Now, this is a good idea.

Maybe some kind of safeguard should be put in, though...

Ghandi: "Ragnar! You just blew up all my cities and killed many cattle!"

Ragnar: "By Odin! Thou speaketh the truth! Verily, mine clumsy digits didst intend to order Irrigation for fair Copenhagen! Wouldst thou accept mine most heartfelt laments over a stein of mead?"

Ghandi: "Throw in some pelts, and I may consider it, you red-bearded terror."

It should not be so accessible. Here is how I imagine a nuclear strike. First you have to bring up your "Strategic Advisor"(Different from military). Then you would push a button to 'designate strike'. You would then designate all warheads or bombers to be used(targets-preprogrammed). Now you would have the launch button, first you must push up the glass. Then two lines pop-up in cool metallic bars. The first contain a set of characters and/or numbers. The second is a text bar in which you must copy the first set. Basically its the authorization code and prevents any accidental launches. After that the button is armed and the only way to turn back is to hit the abort key.

Since nuclear exchanges would be like Superpower, with options to pause and target, the same process would be used, althoguht he strategic advisor would already be up. First strike does not mean you win, it simply means you launch first.

Yeah, it would take a turn to hit their cities, and for that turn, they know it's coming so they can retaliate. Unless you have some wonder, or some covert spy action that disables their warning systems...oooh, the possibilities!

That would absolutely rock the house. You should have to prepare somewhat, by designating your targets at least a turn before you launch the missiles. Or maybe it should take a certain amount of turns to prep your missiles. That would add to the feel of an escalating nuclear crisis.

Suddenly...the modern age would be the best part of the game!

Actually I do not like the 'one-turn' ide. Nuclear crises would erupt in literally minutes. Instead, whenever you launch, your missles get a certain amount of distance before they are detected(none if thermo-graphics from satellites catch them warming up). In the event nukes were being warned, you would enter a mini-stage that was WE-GO. You could only try one or a couple actions at a time. Actions include trying to talk the crisis down(Cuban Missle Crisis-ish), or preparing your own nukes as a move of strength. You could even institute a 'fire-on-command' or 'fire-at-will' status. FaW would launch as soon as any enemy launch was suspected. Since this is WE-GO, all players would have some oppurtunity to strike.

Or you could have a "Nuke The Fools Who Dared Aim their Missiles At Us" button. :mischief:

already been discussed but also with the adition of a 'nuclear advisor' with the discovery of fission in which he informs you of recent nuclear progression within your civ and other civs

This nuclear advisor's screen should resemble a generic 1960's war room. You could see all the other advisor sitting there crowded arround the table as the missles start to fly.....
