That sir, is the single biggest question of the entire x-pac, even more so then the whole Byzantine troubles...

The Sumerians did sort of found civilization and all ;)

But I've always thought of them as being very similar to the Babylonians. The Assyrians are similar, but very different (If you understand what I mean ;) )

Maybe somebody should link them to this thread, and give them a heads up, so they don't get taken completely by suprise. :D

who, the sumerians?

I always thought Sumerians would be nice to have in the game. After all, they're responsible for 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 12 hours in a day, and 360 degrees in a circle. That is so annoying they disserve to get in. Only the English (And now Americans) have made more awful contributions to the world (12 inces in a foot, 3 feet in a yard, X yards in a mile etcetera).
I would be interseted to see how Atari answers (Or dodges) those questions.

Furious - there's 24 hours in a day.

The Sumerians should be there before the Babylonians. While they were ethnically different, the Babylonian civilization was merely an offshoot of the Sumerians.

But out of the choice between the Sumerians, and babylonians, who deserves the spot? The Babylonians are by fat the better know people, but the Sumerians have a lot of basic tech which they invent on there side... (which to me makes them Scientific-Agriculteral...)

are you saying their overweight;)

Sumerians: Agricultural, Scientific
Hitties: Millitaristic, Expansionist
Portuguese: Seafaring, Expansionist
Dutch: Commercial, Expansionist
Incas: Religious, Expansionist
Mayans: Millitaristic, Religious
Byzantines: Religious, Scientific

Your thoughts?

I like 'em, I like 'em alot, the suit the civs well

and no, the babylonians are not fat, just big boned ;)

Dutch: Commercial, Expansionist

Your thoughts? [/B]

I'd say the Dutch should be Commercial and Scientific.
Commercial is obvious, but I disagree with expansionist.
Their empire wasn't that big when compared to the other major Imperial powers, mainly confined to small islands. Landwise, they have a very small territory.

Scientific would better reflect the Dutch. Off the top of my head, they created/improved innovations such as the Windmill, as well as consturcting dams to reclaim land from the sea. Plenty of influential Dutch scientists.

I'd say that now that I think about it you're right.

"God created the earth, but the Dutch created the Netherlands"

or sometrhing along those lines. Basically, the country wouldn't exist if it wasn't for their efforts at pushing back the sea.

Recently, I gotten the impression that the Babylonains should be re-named "Mesopotamians" (One could argue that the Greeks are just a grouping of civs, not one)

They have a Babylonian Leaderhead. Traits which fit both the Babylonains and the Sumerians well (The Sumerians are very Religious, but have some nice scientific advancements to their name). And they have an Assyrian Unique Unit (although everyone copied Assyrian Warfare when Babylon and Medea finally defeated them).

I agree here completely. That way, the Sumerians and the Hittites and Sumerians could be replaced with more deserving, unique civs, such as the Poles and the Northwest Indians.

the Hittites werent mesopotamians, they are from asia minor....

Their empire was mostly in Mesopotamia, and the cities between the three mentioned civs overlap greatly. After conquering Mesopotamian cities, the Hittites largely adopted Mesopotamian cultures. They are distinct, but not distinct enough in comparison to other Mesopotamian civs to merit their inclusion over other civs from elsewhere in the world.
