that the stanford students knew more than the yanks is easy enough, but i really have no idea about the riddle... its a good one i pondered for 15 and all i came up with is "fruitcake" or "happyness" or "wine"......:)

Gee, I always thought that Stanford was in California, thus making them "yanks" too as you put it. The distinction is not between US and international, but between college students and grade school kids. The grade school kids got the answer more often. It highlights the open mind of youth. An open mind would be not jumping to already formed opinions without carefully reading what is presented, in case you were unclear on this point.

I suppose a case could be made that many of the Stanford students are international, but that works counter to your assumption that the "yanks" know less.

On Topic:

What's tall as a house,
Round as a cup,
And all the king's horses,
Can't draw it up?

a well? and you didnt answer the last riddle...

no1 will get that one darkchild, and stop taking riddles from the hobbit, a lot of people know them already which makes the crowd a lot smaller I guess, and that kinda beats the purpose.

I think a few years will pass untill someone answers this, and that is only because he didnt saw 'not to the hobbit familiers' line...

So I would like the post another riddle, if I may:

The Moon is my father,
the Sea is my mother;
I have a million brothers,
And a billion at me ponders.

Who am I?
