The RoM Slowdown Culprit

You can see the list of new XML modifiers I added for 1.41 on my OP. I've got about 15 more unlisted ones in my unreleased beta...

I've gotten rid of all the calls, except now I need to update some of the upgrade paths again, for your megapack.
I'm using your beta 1.5 and I would just like to report that does seem to run a little quicker. I won't know the difference though until I hit the Industrial Era. I would also like to point out that your event images work like a charm. No errors so far but I'll keep you posted :goodjob:

I would just like to point out that upon hovering over your nation's flag, it still says 1.4. I would assume this is just something you have a low priority but I think it should at least say it's the 1.5 beta at least. If you tell me where it is, I can change it myself if it's not too much trouble.

My 1.5beta doesn't even have the major speed optimizations in it. I'll be releasing beta 2 today or tomorrow, Eastern time.

Ah, I did notice a file named "PythonCallbackDefines.xml" though so I assumed it was in there. The fixed borders works like a charm.

Yeah, but if you open it, you will see 4 or 5 things marked 1 (true), so there are still callbacks. Don't disable them though, if you haven't replaced their functions like I have, bad things happen. Thank Dexy for fixed borders, I just added it as a game option.

The beta's been out for a little over an hour now. Does anyone think it's faster? If so, a lot or just a little? Be honest, please.

I'm just finish updating my mods, but don't expect many to respond most will probably be playing for hours

Hello,

Details first:
18 Civs Huge Map (as China)
It has Marathon speed.
It was turn between 70 and 80 CE.
No Barbarians.
No Storm.
Your latest beta (1.51beta2)
In war with Mongolians now.

It was just 15 seconds.

I'll be honest: till now i notice a general speedup (late classical era, huge map, 18 civs, no storms, marathon and no barbs), can't say how much in percentage but i'd say this is surely the right direction.
If it continues like this i can add barbarians again to my games....

:goodjob:

Before 1200's now
Still the same game

Turn time is about less than 30 seconds on average.

In other words, definitely a good job, Afforess! :D

I do confirm: if the game im actually playing continues with this speed i can even dare a gigantic map (i could NEVER do that before, was unplayable).

Good job m8!!!

no barbs speeds it up a lot?

I suspect not that much. Consider barbarians just another type of widely spread civ.
I will try barbarians on with BarbCivs later. I just don't play with barbarians without BarbCivs because it offend my historian's sense of decency :), not it slows the game down.

1.5beta2 = Huge speed boost for me.

Turn times were getting ridiculous, even on a standard size map with 7 civs. The speed boost exceeded my expectations.

Afforess, you rock!

Sorry to ask this, but which file do I download to use the new speed enhancements that remove the python callbacks? Is it 1.51Beta2?

Yes it is.

(I can't believe that username was available...)

Don't worry, only two more reports to go then my reportings is done with.

It is nearby 1500 now. The turn time is still less than 30 seconds. Still the same game.

So my conclusion is that you NAILED THE HEAD! :D

One more report coming for about 1850s thereabouts. That should be a real test, though I think it will be about one minute or less then. We will see...

I got to ca. 1000AD in one game - Large map, Rom_Perfect_World, Epic - and there's very little waiting time btw. turns. I installed a minimum of beta2 - no buildings. At this point there's usually a very noticeable delay, at least 15 seconds.
