I play as the Romans about 99% of the time. Does anybody know what language the Roman units are speaking?

I figure it is Latin or Italian, but I am not sure. Does anybody know what they are saying?

Lastly, I love Roman history and their buildings and their units (The prats). I can't seem to bring myself to play as anybody else. Anybody else have that problem?

Praetorians are an extremely strong unique unit; that probably is why (in civ terms at least) you find it hard to play as anyone else. I like variety though so I usually play with random leaders. Do whatever you enjoy most.

They're speaking latin.

If you notice, workers say "in via summus" or, we're in route, when you tell them to road somewhere, or go somewhere (this might go for soldiers too, i can't remember).

Etiam cum super. Tuae servae linguam Latinam loquuntur, quam necesse est studere. Sed... Studere, studere, post mortem quid valere? Et ante mortem, quod manducare?

It's Latin, and I have too much time on my hands. I'm a classics geek, gimme a break.

Play a few games as them on a really high difficulty level, and convince yourself that you lost due to the Romans. Then play a really easy game as another civ, and see how much easier they make your life. ;)

Try out Darius and you won't miss the Romans ;)

I always play as the Netherlands, I love their unique building, colour and leader traits.
And I can't poison Amsterdam, nuke Utrecht, sack The Hague and bomb Rotterdam. It would be too painful for me.

I do enjoy playing as the Romans and do so often, but variety is the spice of life, especially in a game as rich with possibilities as Civ. Elizabeth and Ramesses are also fun leaders for me, and I also like to mix things up every now and then with a random leader and map.

I love in my games when Rome becomes a second capital of Allmighty Gandhi

Random leader is really fun. And for one I honestly like Roman UB more than UU. UU comes and go, UB is there for the game, so that is deciding factor after traits (I enjoy playing spiritual), and comes before units.

Might I suggest you play either Zara or willy orange. Both are creative types, with their natural +3 culture you save yourselves a lot of hammers and time form not having to built momuments.

I always play random civs but I have to admit I'm partial to The Netherlands. Not just for the obvious reason but also because I came from there originally. It's always a kick for me to see the name of the city where I was born in the game. Plus it has some good traits and UB. The UU is kind of weak though.

Their color? Really? I'm more partial to the cool or darker colors myself, not orange. Oddly enough, the orange color is the one thing I don't like about Carthage.

Are you playing a mod? I thought Creative gave a +2 culture bonus. Also, Zara's UB is a monument that gives you an added culture bonus, so you might want to build a few of those. Or get Stonehenge.

Next War, I will double check i could be wrong but i thought it was +3.

I like the orange colour as well, it provides a nice contrast on the map. So many of the colours in the game get hard to make out, especially since I have a slight red/green deficiency. But orange always stands out nicely

It does.

I like Rome.

Good UU that'll almost certainly see some use... whether as the terror of the classical age or the laughingstock of the industrial age (I'll happily use them to clean up after blowing things up with cannons. Yes, I'm cheap).
I don't care for the UB at all outside of a OCC though. Nice type of bonus, but nowhere near enough to be worth it.
The starting techs are fine. Mining is one of the most universally useful techs, and BW asap is often a good idea. Fishing can suck, but workboat first is often a strong opening when coastal.

I also like the leaders. Julius can REX with the best of them while still able to pay the bills, and Augustus has an easier time spamming wonders without falling behind too much on expansion. Both combinations make good use of IMP, once as the defining trait and once as the perfect support trait.

Now that I think of it, I never actually listened to the units. My old Latin teacher would be disappointed.

In fact most of the people in my country would understand that sentence without a single day studying latin :D And yes, studying latin does not fill stomachs :D

I can probably give a rough translation as well... but then spanish is derived from latin.'

As is Portugese.
