This is really odd, especially for my PC, but for some reason, when playing The Sims 3 (and Civ4), the game runs smoothly for the first minute or two, but then out of no where, it just starts to run EXTREMELY sluggish. The game skips around when scrolling instead of running smooth like it should. I think it might be Windows 7 because it worked fine with Windows Vista, please help.

I run the game in compatibilty mode for Windows Vista SP2, and disable all visual themes and what not.

PC Specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate (x64)
2.2GHz Quad Core Processor
6GB RAM
500GB HDD
256MB/dedicated Nvidia GeForce 9100

DirextX 9, 10, and 11 are installed.

move to the Computer forum...

Wow, already on Windows 7? That was fast - and yeah, I'd guess it's that rather than the game software causing problems, also merits a forum move.

I'm just guessing, but that would happen if your graphics drivers aren't doing their job efficiently - either because you have the wrong drivers installed, or because windows 7 isn't playing nicely with them.

yeah i have heard of issues with drivers for graphics being badly installed/wrongly installed on windows 7

If
- your games run really sluggish
- your internet connection is slow
- your harddrive is full
- it takes a long time to boot up
- your notification taskbar look like this:
cpu-taskbar.jpg

- you get popups
- your desktop icons are cluttered
- your email account full

Then you need a new computer.

You have a 9100 gpu. Its a bit under minimum requirements.
When it stars getting sluggish, look at your process list and see what else is using a ton of CPU and RAM.
