The Song of the Moon

hi geomodder,

yeah, your probably right, planetfall pretty much sums it up for a mission in space.

and civ 5 is soon to come,

i got a good exhuse, im unemployed right ow, and theres almost a month till i can get civ5 on steam, so, ill waste my time on re animating this mod.

maybe im wasting my time...oh well, keeping busy.

p.s, ive finished the tech tree and the resources...yeah me.

It's never a waste of time if it makes you feel good. :)
It's just that I'm quite fond of eye-candy, and SotM is in my mind unlikely to get the art the theme deserves.
Sure, it's always possible to snatch art from other scifi mods but that often creates a potpourri of styles.

basically, i wanted to design a mod that all if its units are land based, and see how the watfare goes, and if its sci fi, its better.

i got 22 days...ill see how much i can complete and ill upload the stuff. heck thee are still modders in civ3....i bet the modding of civ4 will go on a long time.

well, i used up what i could from there, made it shades of Grey.

the units, well, i have 3 great sci fi mods to import units from - i can alter some with nifscope,

the more impotent thing, ill try to bring a nice enough game play.

i should have done this before....

im going through with the mod,

heres a photo of my work , i almost through with the first stuff, i have left with the units and the buildings, that need a complete re build.

then ill release first draft of the mod.

i have hope that someone will be happy with this besides me :)

hello all! (or just hello to me i guess...)

ive done some more work, ive made almost all of the improvement, i tried not to use other mods improvement - so i altered most.

im basing the improvement system like this - fresh water is now energy - theres an improvement that gives energy to 3 tiles from it, so some improvement will require energy to be built.
this is built similar to dune wars , method of moisture.

theres much work ahead of me - unit models and buildings- all the rest are pretty much done.
heres a pic with 7 improvements - the big one is by mistake - too big and turn to the wrong way...

if not, well...i like to mod :)

im working every day on it - i will try to finish the first version until civ5 will come out, might even be next week.

ive now started the unit part, after that - buildings and finally promotions.

the first release, wont contain too much unique stuff, but i promise to include some nice stuff later on.

(i kinda hope civ5 will suck, but somehow i dont see thats possible...)
 
I think I love you. I was just looking at porting this to BtS.

Are you using a custom DLL? If not, I recommend either the Rise From Erebus one (a FFH mod) or the Rise of Mankind one, because of the possibilities they allow.

The FFH spell system would work perfectly for all the futuristic weapon effects, affinity could be useful, and RifE forts give out culture :)
If your not using a custom DLL and don't want to, when you release, I may go and use one and mod off that :)

And, well, you could always make a Song Of The Moon for Civ5, I'd love that! :)

[EDIT] Just re-read and saw your using some custom DLL stuff, can I convince you to switch to the RifE one?
It's got truly modular XML and Python, Influence Driven War, a climate system, blizzards (graphic and text change could make them dust clouds), different damage types, civics/religions/traits can do a lot more!
And, if not, I suppose I can make it work with the RifE DLL when you release... :p
 
Yeah, I just saw.
If it's just a few XML tags and the AI, I can rip it out and add in the RifE one :p
If not, then, python's easy to change as well :)

for now im using fuyu's better ai bug, and i added some more stuff on it ( jculture mod, influence driven war, some code from dune mod to make the energy system and more).

i plan to add the entire pack - dale, super spies and more very cool stuff.

lemonjelly - perhaps you can upload what you have and ill merge it in.

it was very hard importing all of it to bts, took me a while, as i said, im adding units right now, trying to alter some to have some unique graphic units - i have some nice ideas.

im pretty sure by next weak ill have first alpha release, i dont like to have things out before they are ready so ill finish the entire infrastructure of the mod, then get in some more cool unique stuff and most of all - balance.

so any ideas would be welcomed, i got the unit class set in my mind - but more names for various units would be swell.

as for the gameplay:

1. all land map - unit ai will use land domain only.
2. for now no transports - although ill latrer on add all terrain transport from dune wars.
3. all improvements need energy (fresh water - provided only by another improvement).
4. for now no aerial units - only helicopter based - probably will be changed later on
5. no roads on the mood, instead promotions will increase movement points.
6. around 15 resources on the moon - mostly , metal sorts, low food resources. 22 resources can be imported - you build a building that imports goods from earth. each civ will have one unique resource (2-4 of that kind for trade purposes) 7 other resources are world wonders.
7. religion and corps - im not sure if ill get hose for next release - for now i cal religions beliefs and their gonna be something like - conservative, orthodox and suck. since the civs youll play are mega corps, i need to find some other idea for corporations.

i got alll resources system, improvement system civs, techs ready.

I didn't do anything, I was in the process of looking to see what I'd need to change and what I'd need to redo.
Well, because you're using a custom DLL, can I request you merge http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=317432 ?
And maybe look at the Modular Python from RifE? It doesn't require any DLL changes IIRC, and makes it so much easier to test stuff :)
One little problem, BUG confuses me :( Oh well, I'll live with it if it means I get to play Song of the Moon again!
Any plans for anybody to make this sort of mod for Civ5? I know I'd love to play it!
 
IDW, dale, super spies, WoC .. seriously keldath, you'd be better off just using RevDCM as your base where all of that is already included. Or maybe you should simply steal the Dune dll because it will most likely include a lot of what you want.
 
Fuyu, hehe.....once the new rev dcm will be out, ill use it, thats my plan.
i stated with your version since the merge of song of the mood of vanilla civ was easier to do with your simpler version, i tried revdcm - and i had many problems. i created a code without revolution but with all the other parts in it for dune - since they didnt want rev stuff, so i had it ready.

in my overlord2 mod, im using revdcm, and i plan to this one too, but its easier for me to build this piece by piece. and much safer to not leave loose end and see a ctd somewhere after ive merged a lot.

you like woc huh... see my answer above, once revdcm 2.8 will be out...ill update in it.
as i wrote above if we want the mod not to have bugs, its need to be done in steps, i had to much bad exp with this, updating a mod, and creating one from scratch in a low amount of time can be a nightmare.

as for civ 5....oh man do i got plans or what:
1. my overlord 2 mod for civ4 will be overlord 3 civ5
2. dune wars for civ 5 i hope.
3. will do song of the moon, since i love it too, ive look into making it for bts many times but was always too busy with my other projects.

here are the unit set for song of the modd that i came up with:

1. astro infantry + armored infantry - city defense units (infantry models) - all era's
2. rollers - field support - early era - till late - not sure if to the end.
3. shock - siege/ranged units. - all era's

city attacking units:
4. tracked - all terrain city attackers (larger roller models) - mod game era till future i think.
5. battle drone - all terrain city attackers (mech models) - ancient to modern era.

6. floaters - hover units that support the battle field - all terrain - modern to future era.
7. spaceships - limited national units - heavy support units - modern to future era.


if you have any thoughts...now is the time.
