The Sun Really Never Sets on the British Empire

you might want to keep me and Speedster away from each other in the roster since he's a "virgin" and I'm a little out of practice.

Yeah, and I was never any good to begin with, so it'd be virgin >> out-of-practice-guy >> suck-out-loud-leader. Point well taken. Roster mix-up definitely will be a good maneuver.

I don't think Britain ever had a major role in Korea, but I was thinking that neither did they have a major role in China (mainland) and at least Wang Kon was closer to the time period we were setting this is. It isn't really a big issue at all though. In general, since Ghandi, Shaka, Washington, and one of the Egyptians and the Chinese all have a British Empire link, why don't we stick with those, plus the European rivals.

Britain colonized many of the island countries in the pacific.
However, noone of those are available.

Since Britain owned Fiji and the Fijian population includes quite a significant amount of Indians, we could play with both the Indian leaders as natives.

Yeah, there are plenty of ideal candidates that simply lack civs - Canadians, Australians, Caribbean Islands, etc. I'd probably shy away from facing both Indian leaders though, if only to provide more variety. We could throw in the Vikings I guess, since they at least controlled territory that was later conquered by Britain. I think the existing mix of civs is a good variety though: a few aggressive civs (Zulu and Spain), some medium ones (France under Louis, Quin), and some builders (Hatty, Washington, Ghandi). Plus early, middle, and late enemy UUs. A nice mix overall.

Rex, before rolling a start, you need to pray to the RNGod and offer some nubile young virgins at the sacrificial altar. Then we'd be assured of an interesting map and a perfect random leader to lead us to victory.

Or just close your eyes and cross your fingers ...

Nah...Fox will build us a good start. Four continents. One as the "old world" with us, France (Nappy or Louis?), and Spain. Two as "native" worlds with Washington, Gandhi, Hatty, and Shaka. One barb world. The Old world should be largest and we should need Astronomy to get to at least two of the other continents.

Now, do we want to make a rule that we can't ever capture a city on the home continent?

Sounds good ... but can we trust him? ;)

Er, no? If I can't conquer France what's the point in playing? :crazyeye:

I'd say Nappy makes more sense if we go with Vicky, Louis if Lizzy.

Hmm....I see us as an Imperialistic power - so we have to problem "civilizing" the heathen people, but we aren't warmongers for our European brethren. Of course, we could always have a "chosen unwisely" policy, but goading an AI into war isn't that hard. I would favor a policy of only taking over fellow European cities culturally. I would also favor Louis over Napolean - after all we are firmly supportive of Monarchies, but an Emperor....that might involve invasions and grand coalitions and whatnot.

Also, why a barb continent? Just to make things hard on us? I've found recently that estabvlished barbs can put up more of a fight than an AI civ.

One crazy idea - make us an island, but within Galley distance of a larger landmass with Issy and Louis. That would force us to be a primarely marintine power, keeping with the British tradition.

Heh heh, you saying this to Rex? He sure knew how barbs could fight with his recent experience.

I guess the barb continent is meant as a collective representative of Australia, New Zealands, ... and numerous other smaller regions ... like Singapore (heh, good luck fighting the barb in the map created by ME!).

I could create the map ... if you guys trust me ;) But it will have to wait until tonight (that is, tonight on my barbaric side of the world).

Not to question your mad map-building skills, but won't 'cutting' the continents end up removing some resource tiles from the game? Do you plan on reinserting them elsewhere?

Sorry Fox. I didn't realize I'd made it so tough. Just give us whatever is easy, we'll get along just fine. Thanks for the effort.

Just no tilted-axis maps! :nono:

Actually, that'd make the game easy: just need to settle one city ... or would it be four ... maybe nine? :crazyeye:

Here you go, Gentlemen ... meet you Queen Mother:

>>> The Initial Save <<<

Although I am tempted to add in a barb city and name it Singapore and have it protected by a level 15 MA .... you may be relieved to know that I resisted the urge. No barb cities added. Gandhi + Washy is in a smaller continent, Hatty + Shaka is in another smaller continent, Louis + Izzy + You are in a slightly larger continent to compensate for the extra crowdedness.

That is some ugly land to our North. Hopefully it won't stretch too far. :undecide:

Otherwise, good balance of forests/flood plains/gold hills. Move one tile W? (Can you settle on Flood Plains?)
