Sorry for asking, but what's the point of that?
Moderator policy on postcount is a strange, inscrutable thing. I don't even know if it makes sense to them.

What is wrong with the sentence "Graffiti as an act of vandalism is a crime"?

It's used as an example of a bad translation, but I can't see anything wrong with it. I guess it shows how stupid I am at English.

This is a flaw in at least all indo-european languages, and one I see english-language newspapers have way too much in their headlines.

I'm afraid I'm not to familiar with the english terminology, but every sentence needs a subject and a verbal. "I spoke" is an example of a "basic" sentence. "I" is here the subject, that did something, and "spoke" is that "something". "Graffiti as an act of vandalism is a crime"(I'm wrong) is just one very big subject.

perhaps it should be something like "Graffiti, as an act of vandalism, is a crime."

still doesn't look quite right but it does make the subject-verb thing much clearer

You know what, I'm stupid. I read it completely wrong. I was thinking "Graffiti as an act of vandalism and a crime".

Still, my complaint about headlines is true.

People who make scifi imagery have never learned that the concept of "form follows function" actually tends to work with scifi geeks. So they waste everyone's time just trying to make things that look cool. When they aren't making things try to seem both cool and familiar by grafting on things just because the ignorant public would find it more recognizable. So you have star destroyers with large superstructures and bridges well above the "deck" because, well, because that's the way some people expect to see ships look. :p

The Rebel ships and fighters actually look kind of sensible. Maybe the Empire just puts too much emphasis on aesthetics.

It's not just a Star Wars thing. You see it throughout scifi. Including cover art on novels. Wars at least did a better job than some with pistols and rifles. They actually look like what they are. Trek pistols are dumbass looking. And new Trek ones are even worse.

No they don't. Wings S Foils in space?

You are a godless hater. But hey, at least they got computers/tablets right.

My question:
If you have been screwed out of some money by a large-ish firm (let's assume big enough to have lawyers on retainer), how do you sue them to get your money back? If the amount is a few hundred, it's not worth paying a lawyer yourself to recover it but if you sue yourself in small claims court, won't you get clobbered by their lawyers?

It must be this, thanks.

To prevent people from spamming their pc up. Many of the serial threads, such as What are you listening to? are one or 2 word posts and you can justify making 20 of those in a day.

Form follows function. ;) There's a reason that modern pistols all follow the same basic pattern. It works. Triggering a hand weapon with your thumb means that you do not have the same physical control of that weapon.

Is there a legit editing software that will correct your grammar and spelling and do it well?

I've already looking at Grammarly and Ginger and I'm not impressed.

In general, S-foils aren't about maneuverability, they're about heat dispersion in combat situations.

File complaint with BBB and related government agencies. Lawyers on retainer probably don't lower themselves to go to small-claims court. I wouldn't.

OK thanks. I don't need to yet but I suspect I will soon.

It's not like there is recoil with a phaser...

I never heard that before.

If its a big company there's almost certainly a binding arbitration clause. So you can't go to court. You'll got to alternative dispute resolution and if you can't afford a lawyer they'll provide you with one and deduct the money.

Also you probably can't do class-action either. Look at the fine print. It'll be in the terms.

Not that big, I hope. Binding arbitration seems like such a perversion of civil and contract law...

But you still have to control it. And, unlike on TV, you probably just won't be standing there while other miss you and you can calmly aim your shot. The more you are moving around and diving for cover, the harder it is to maintain your hold on something that you can't wrap your thumb around.

I never heard that before.
Of course you didn't. It's not in the movies. In the movies, all you see is the X-wings and B-wings and ARC-170s and Eta-2 interceptors popping open their wings. And they do that because it looks cool.

It also widens where the lasers are mounted.
