Indeed, this is possible through the following steps:

~ Right-click on the desktop to its Properties (pff, you know how!).

~ Now that's a nifty little "Customize Desktop" button....

~ Click on the Web tag. The rest should explain itself. Not too hidden, but still pretty neat.

I agree, probably the option everyone should DEFINITELY have switched off! :mischief:

Active Desktop and most apps that have to do with it are the major reason for bogging down your system, draining enormous resources and often causing crashes, too.
:D

But...but...the niftiness! *computer crashes*

Hheehhe, well I have active desktop on most of the time because that is the only way you can use .jpgs for backgrounds and I don't feel like converting them all the time.

Couldn't agree more :goodjob: It's only use I can think of is if you use some javascript, then you can get, for example, the latest comic from whatever site or a randomly generated comic. Apart from that, it's useless

 So...if I have a picture saved as a .jpg as my background, it bogs down my system? Even if the file is on my HD?

If it is...I'm shocked. ;)

Depends on your OS. If it's 2000 or XP then no it wont bog down your system at all.

I have several weather maps on my desktop. Severe weather, temp map and state radar. I love it. I also use active desktop to link to my pics I have on my desktop, one of an F22 and one of my kids. I like the active desktop part, as I can resize the pics. Can't do that using the background function.
