Beautiful: Italian is, IMHO, by far the most beautiful language in the world. Portuguese is nice too, in a weird way. German is a great language too. What I hate is seeing some Germans saying how ugly their language is, when I'm trying to say I love it. Hebrew sounds very interesting and Arabic too. Of the extinct languages, Latin is amazing. I actually think Romanian is pretty beautiful too, but I really can't make an objective comment since it's my first language.

And I love American English, much more than any kind of English, the only problem is that English itself isn't up there with the other beautiful ones, in my opinion.

Ugly: Dutch, I can't understand how anyone can speak that. :p Hungarian and Chinese are ok if you listen to them for maximum 1 minute. Then they get really annoying. Actually I think few languages in the world could be classified as ugly.

Spanish and Russian are like cameleons - they can be really, REALLY beautiful, or they can be annoying and somewhat ugly when spoken by some people.

Beautiful: BRITISH English, Norsk

Ugly: None. I have a slight dislike of AE, though. BE is simply far more pleasant.

Well... I like German - when I´m in England or elsewhere, I can understand what people say but I can talk German with my friends and nobody understands what *we* are talking about even when people are right next to us. You feel like a member of some secret society :D .

Edit: nice video :) ! Although I have to say - I hope that this statement will not initiate a viking raid on my hometown - Danish and Norwegian are not *that* different imho?! I have learned a bit Norsk the last few years and Danish people seem to understand me ( to a certain degree  perhaps they were just trying not to offend me ) .

c'mon... you can't fault somebody for complaining about their own language. It's usually related to certain accents anyway.

edit: same to angeleyes, some German accents I find borderline ugly.

I forgot about English accents. The most violently ugly American English accent is the New Jersey + New York accent. While at AT&T, I had to listen to the person in the next cubicle constantly talking loudly in that stupid accent. Now, at my current job, I have to listen to yet another New Jerseyan woman constantly yakking. I started listening to music on my headphones when she's blabbing so I don't have to listen to her disgusting accent. Yes, I really feel disgusted by the aforementioned accent. The Bostonian accent is the same as the New York one except dumber. It's hard to imagine a dumber sounding accent than the New York one, but Bostonians accomplished it.

English more beautiful than French? Lotta American's still feasting on Freedom Fries it seems...

I like italian, and dislike harsh-sounding german. About portuguese I guess most people who like it probably heard it with brazilian accent, the european one became very dull-sounding.

 Dilbertworld actually exists!

Norwegian and Danish writing is very similar because of historical reasons, but the accent is very different (little more different than British English and Irish/Scottish), especially if the Dane is speaking fast...

Has anyone here heard Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand or Sie Liebt Dich (I want to hold your hand and She loves you) by the beatles, off the past masters album? it sounds not loving in the least.

Is there anyone who find his own lanquage ugly?

I HATE CANADIAN FRENCH AND I SPEAK IT OCCASIONALLY.

In school I learned quebec french. I now am slowly replacing it with France French. (however, I like un chum and une blonde better for boyfriend and girlfriend than un petit ami and une petite amie)

EDIT: oops double post.

You are aware that Tolkien intended his elvish (Sindarin that is) words to be pronounced as if they were German words? :)

Welsh, not German.

Puerto Rican Spanish is the best!:goodjob:
