If you're expansonist, you must take advantage of your trait and pump out three or four additional scouts. This is where the Incas are handicapped; for the price of two regular scouts, they can only build one Chasqui scout.

Thats right, it is way too expensive!

F-15 is what I voted, but all fighter-type planes are pretty low on my agenda during a game (what's the point? I can just build more bombers than the other guy can).

And no, there is no 'common opinion' a Carrier would be in any way better than the F-15. A useful UU would be a better Para, or Marine. Please don't come with that silly Minuteman myth again ;). I could name a comparable militia unit for almost any Civ...

Marine might be ok...

Well, then we have a paradox. America is mainly a modern day civ. However, people complain that its UU comes too early. However, someone proposes a minuteman (I did in the thread about the F-15), a nice middle age UU, and people aren't satisfied. They want an early UU, but America isn't a country with a lot of choices early on. The minuteman or F-15 are fine choices for its UU.

Lots of countries have F-15s, and pretty much everyone had some kind gunpowder militia. But I don't see what the problem is with the US Marines; they're pretty much the ultimate symbol of American military power, being used since the American revolution. And besides of which, an industrial-era UU had been needed for a long time.

"But the marine comes too late!" - A post that I can see regarding it as a UU.

Plus, the panzer is a late industrial era UU as well. A good one at that too.

I see no reason not to make the USMC the American UU. IIRC LK's WM rules have the American UU as the USMC. Marines are considerably better in C3C and some boosting will make them very very good.

A late UU is penalizing, expecially for those players who usually end the game in the industrial age or even before... For me, the marine would be good, but it's too late. I proposed the pistolero somewhere, but maybe the best american UU would be the Blue Coat, a substitute for the standard Cavalry with, say, blitz ability or increased stats.

@[you know] - nice avatars, can't help waiting for the fifd :D
EDIT: seriously, nice avatars. Are they from Mistfit?

Nope. Well...

Actually, three are by Chukchi, five are from Mistfit, six are from Dease, and seventy-eight are from yours truly. :D

Someone agrees with me! :D. Most UUs that people suggest for America are way to late, since America is only around 200 years old.

I just wish Civ IV would come up with early aviation. I'd love to see a Sopwith Camel going up against the German's Fokker Tri (and on the ground Big Berthas and even observation balloons - or how about a good old WWI gas attack!) Then, a little later, the Brits could upgrade to the Spitfire and the the Germans to the Messerschmidt.

Then, you could have the new American UU: The P-51 Mustang! Cadillac of the Skies!
(Although I still think the best American UU would be the Kentucky Rifleman 5.3.3. with a coonskin cap and a long rifle).

no i say the supercarrier should come when regular carriers come in the industrial age. although it may not be historically right but it helps the gameplay better.

What about an improved (read: useful) Cruise Missle? More than anything I think the American military might is defined by its ability to strike from afar. Perhaps a Tomahawk Missle that would have twice the range and increased power be it via more hits, a higher bombard rating, or both. Maybe a bad idea, but its an idea.

For the Americans, I like the idea of the Marine and the Cruise Missile. I would be okay with a revamped carrier that held extra planes, but I would prefer a Marine. Perhaps the US Marine could be built starting with Replaceable Parts? It could be weaker than the current Marine, like in Vanilla, but available earlier. That would help balancing issues.

Another idea could be a mobile tank-like unit that could fire cruise missiles (in essence, a reusable cruise missile), or the Abrams Tank.

Marine? Minuteman? Unique- the word means one of a kind- british have just as good as if not better marines- every country probably had equal militia to the minute man- really the space shuttle should be the american uu - as it was truly unique and no other country had one (russia eventually built one that sits in some warehouse) -course it would come even later tha n:crazyeye: the f15

people were saying that our superaircraft carriers are unique like that - I don't know.

I would have to disagree with the sentiment that the F-15 sucks. Fighters are needed for air defense against an opponent who goes bomber-happy, and while the F-15's stats aren't a game-buster the way Persian Immortals are, they're still good stats--and you get the F-15 at the same time other players get the same plane-Jane jet fighter, so the F-15 is at least as useful as a jet fighter.

I have to go with the Conquistador; with this unit, you DO have the problem of the unit being less combat-worthy than its contemporaries. That makes it a lot less useful. Also, since the AI's ALWAYS garrison every single one of their cities that are remotely within reach of you, a human player can only really use a Conquistador's deep-rush sneak attack against another human player--and then only if that other human player is an idiot, and even then only if a multiplayer game even gets to the Middle Ages, which most of them don't.

American F15 has to be the worst UU, followed distantly by the Incan Chasqui scout.

:shakehead That's like saying the Immortals aren't unique because they're swordsmen, or Swiss Mercs because they're pikemen. And hey, other nations have F-15's as well, so the US hardly is the only one with them.

british have just as good as if not better marines-

No other unit of Marines in the world has managed to accomplish what the USMC has done throughout history. No other military unit, period, is as respected and feared as the USMC. They are an integral part of the American military. They are always the tip of the spear. I think that is grounds enough to consider them for a UU.

Actually old chaps; The British marine is of course as good as a US one any day. However our UU (or the english one in fact as there is a difference) should either be the Convict with which we colonised one of the largest countries in the world (Australia) or the Drug Dealer with which we briefly/nearly conquered the worlds most populous country (China).
Well that should have upset almost everyone.
