These Elections are Illegal

I call for an immediate closure of the polls.

According to the Code of Standards:

Election Schedule
Nominations begin on the 24th (22nd in February)
Debates begin on the 26th (24th in February)
Polls open on the 29th (27th in February)
Polls close on the last day of the month.
Elections will be held for all offices at the beginning of the game.

It would be pointless to close the polls now. Its no sence Closing them and open them in 6 Hours.

It is also pointless to PI a CoS violation as we found out in the quick poll PI.

The main problem with starting the elections early is that nomination are supposed to be open through the 28th. Of course another problem is when does the 29th start? It's 10 and a half hours away where I am.

I'm sure Shaitan has some rationale for this action. Perhaps he was thinking that no one would be here on those days because of the new year.

Well actually Bill already made the allegation and the PI has been opened. Also, all elections are timed to GMT so its actuallyabput 5 hours away now.

I am not sure if we need to do anything, but I was appalled to find that no one seems to care about this clear violation of the rules, thus I decided to go a little public with it.

As for polls being timed to GMT, where is that written in our rules? I remember last term started in the midst of a turn chat!

I agree that it's not good bill. But I don't want the polls closed, it seems a lot of trouble to go through.

Shaitan made a mistake and he even admitted it was just that, a mistake, in the interim results thread.

I definately don't think he should've done it but he thought the 27th was the date elections are to be posted on, no evil intentions that I can see anyways

Gonzo, I don't recall assigning any evil intentions to Shaitan's actions, in fact, I believed all along it was an honest mistake, and he was probably preoccupied with RPG duties ;-).

That doesn't make this election any more legal.

donsig, if we have reached the point that we don't care, then I suppose I will go ahead a make a few tech trades here offline and post the results, after all that would be expediant as well.

ok its a mistake. we stop complaining about it. get on with the elections and learn from this mistake. I think shaitan did a good thing anyways, the polls close on the 31 no one wants to spend the day on the 31st voting at the last moment when they could be out at new years eve parties getting trashed or in kids case drinking loads of caffiene and sugar, so lets chalk this up as a learning experience and live wtth the results.

All I can say is, I think I'm at the point where I don't even know what day it is from one day to the next...

Moving this thread to the Citizen's forum.

It wasn't RPG duties that caused the error. It was general mental fatigue caused by three kids plus Christmas. Elections are posted on the 29th. For me that is the 28th at 7pm. For some reason I was thinking the elections go up the 28th so I posted them after 7pm on the 27th (which is the 28th GMT for me).

OK, I might be a little late here, but IMHO, although it is illegal, Shaitan's opening of the polls a little early isn't a big deal. A) it was an honest mistake, which we know and b) I for one don't want to be voting on New Years, and I doubt there are too many people who do. Just adding my two cents with the typical delayed reaction.
