Well, i just came back from reading my old replies in this topic: Things you never build... to reply to another thread, and i thought, this was a very good discussion where i(and i bet a couple other people) learned alot from, well 8 months have passed, i'm sure alot of you have new opinions/are new and never posted in the thread, so, what do you guys Never Build/Research/units/use/etc.

For Civics, i can never find a use for Universal Suffrage. +1 Hammer in town, ok. but "May spend gold to finish production" nope, don't see a use for this. "oh look at me, i just asked Mansa Musa 700 gold for a tech to finish a Factory in one of my cities" while for a couple of pop which i can easily gain, slavary does the same. And i can use the gold to for a more useful use.

For Buildings, I never Build a stable, (enless in multiplayer).

I never build monuments cause i always get stonehenge, so i do sorta build monuments.. For Castles, i just build them for the graphics :)

PS. the reason why i didn't bump the old thread is cause i didn't want an infraction :p

I never build wonders........

In fact, I never really build anything that does not fall into the following 3 categories.

A. Gold/science/production % increasers.

B. Barracks and stables

C. Troops. Lots of em. (Settlers and workers included here)

But I'm addicted to creative civs......... :S

Buildings: Rarely build Bunkers, Coal Plants, Custom Houses (on pangea), Industrial Park, Laboratory (unless SS win is enabled), Monuments (if I can snag Stonehenge), Nuclear Plants.

Wonders: Rarely build most of them.

Units: Carrier (unless on water map), Cuirasser (expire too soon), Explorer, Galley (wait for Trireme), Ironclad, Musketman (rifles come quickly after), War Elephant (seldom have ivory).

Supr49r you will have problems transporting people in a trireme.

True, but I usually play pangea maps. I like sailing around the landmass with triremes, pillaging and fighting AI and Barb galleys. :D

Never is a strong word..

But IIRC, the last time I built Ironclad was before Civ4 was out (i.e. while still playing Civ3)

I somehow manage to "miss" the Ship of the Line in most of my games - Mil. Scinece is off my prefered techeng path...

Also never built scouts - if i start with one or pop one from a hut, it's fine. But if not by the turns i have Hunting, the Barbs will eat those scouts alive, so there is no point in making them...

I rarely build the following.

Buildings: Bunkers, Nuclear Plants, Bomb Shelters.

Wonders: Chichen Itza. Can somebody please explain the point of this. It might boost your defence, but IIRC it doesn't take any longer for siege units to bombard it to nothing. It just seems a pointless. Also, The Internet, The UN and Versaille (because some git always seems to beat me to it ).

Units: Explorer, Ironclads, Curraiseir, Corporate Executives, Galley

units: never ever get around to building explorers or ironclads...

I also never build bunker, nuclear plant, bomb shelters and recycling centers. Industrial park depends if I can afford the -4 health penalty.

Versailles!
I prefer that someone else builds it and I raid him and have a ready center of gov in place ;). What's the use of another capital INSIDE your core territory?

I never build monuments cause i always get stonehenge, so i do sorta build monuments.. For Castles, i just build them for the graphics :)

Yup... that is true. You even build Henge in OCC ( remember MLG 5? :p )

I only have a never in Civ IV: nuclear plants... By the time I have Fission most of my cities already have Coal or Hydro plants... so why waste hammers? ( that and still having bad memories of Civ III meltdowns.... ). Oh and explorers.....

Now I have a lot of "rarely" : West point, Ships of the line, Anti tank, Mobile artilery, longbows ( yup.... ) , horse archers, swordmen, ironclads , ....

Explorers... it's unrealistic to think they'll still be goody huts by the time you reach this tech.

I don't build bunkers as well.

Bunkers, Coal Plants (that's a reason for me never picking the Japanese), Broadcast Towers (I'd rather go for Eiffel Tower), University of Sankore (too cheap a bouns), Spiral Minaret (same as previous). But I play Mr. Burns a little - nuke plants can be good when you don't have rivers or can't wait for Hydros/Three Gorges. I've never seen a meltdown, but by this time I'm normally too powerful to be sieged.
