EDIT: Before voting, please read the whole thread about the meaning of "complaint department"

Please stop complaining about how your game isnt working. There are a lot of people whose Civ IV is working and are playing happily. I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. Yes, I do experience CTDs and random reboots, but I have been able to play with some lags. Read my specs in my signature, I have an FX5200, which is the same with a lot of people who are having problems in this forum. I believe there is a thread with a poll of how many people are having problems with their Civ IV, and only about 25% are having problems and the rest are happily playing it.

THIS IS THE TECHNICAL SUPPORT SECTION, NOT THE COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT.

It's hard enough to find help through all the posts without the complaints. With the first few, that was deserved of a game that has a lot of bugs, but after a few hundreds of those posts, it's getting redundant. I'm sorry Mods, I just have to get this out. There should be a sticky that says, no B*TCHING in this section. I understand that people have the rights to express their opinions, but enough is enough, this is THE TECHNICAL SUPPORT section, there are other sections for complaints.

By the way, I am experiencing a lot less problems now that I have formatted my HDD. I played for 6 hours straight before any CTDs or Reboot.

Thanks for posting this, it needed to be said. But I can't resist saying:

You say that this isn't the complaints section, and yet you're complaining about the complainers? :P

Just kidding.

I had to put this post here otherwise it wouldnt sound right. Yes, I am complaining, but this post wont have the full effect unless it's "THIS IS NOT THE ..." instead of the "the tech support section is not the complaints dept" posted in another section.

On the contrary I feel this is the good section to post such problems... I don't know what's your problem with that really... if people want the problems and bugs to be corrected in patches, they have to let Firaxis know them...

I agree. And it's good to see that many people have the same problems, so they know what should be fixed first...

Saying that the game is working perfectly between the crashes so we shouldn't complain is a bit strange.

I've read that Firaxis employees peruse these forums, so indeed this IS the place to post these complaints. I've not seen a forum titled "Complaints", and tech support is where I complain anytime I call a manufacturer, so I think that your view is not supported by facts.

IMHO, I believe that the Tech Support forum is THE place for people to post their "technical" problems with the game, ie. "I'm getting CTDs", "black terrains", etc. Also, a place to post solutions, ie. "do this" and "try that". I dont think that this is the place to keep repeating how "Civ IV is the biggest piece of crap that has even been released", and that is what I meant when I said complaints. Saying that kinda of stuffs just make Firaxis people don't want to continue working on this "biggest crap". By all means, post your "technical problems", I totally agree that Firaxis should know about the bugs and the problems people are having concerning the game and their computer systems. But try to keep the comments and thread constructive, even if they arent positive.

to Naokaukodem, Civivist, and Kault, I agree with you and I feel that I should've made myself clear with the first post, I apologize. Now, again, I'm sorry to be complaining, but it's hard enough to go through the posts to find the solution to the problems without having to read through the "complaints" since the search is off, and before anyone make a comment about me saying that, I understand that the search is off to ease the load of people accessing the site, and I commend the Mods for that action (I hope thats the right usage of the word, in other words, it's a good thing).

I don't have any significant problems, except slowness, but I agree that there is a lot of bitter complaining going on, which is tiresome, but I can sort of understand it.

I do think it would be helpful for posters to try and group their problems into particular threads, though, rather than starting a new one for yet another gripe about a specific problem that has already been covered in some depth. A few moments spent scanning the existing topics is all that is needed, either to find a possible solution to try or to find others with the same problem to bounce ideas off.

I'm sure it would also help other members (or lurking developers) if people could clearly state what the problem was together with their system specs and what steps they have taken to try and fix it. I'm sure it's facts like that that will assist in helping get a good patch out. General moaning doesn't help anybody (except the poster getting something off his/her chest) or achieve anything IMHO.

Just my 2p worth anyway.

A quarter of your consumer base having tech issues, is a big problem. Obviously those arent the exact numbers, who knows what they really are, but there probably lot higher then they should be...which is part of the problem. I dont know if id say if its 25%, but yet i wouldnt be surprised if it was...which is a concern.

If your game is working fine, and you dont want to hear complaints...get out of the tech support forums. Like i said before its easy to cast stones from the other side of the river. Im sure if your game was unplayable since release, youd be singing a different tune. Bottom line is, the developers desserve the negative feedback...because its more then just tech support issues, its a terrible and sloppy mess that shouldnt have been on shelves in this state. Its just as important for them to understand the consumer frustration and annoyance as it is for them to know the issue (which they dont even aknowlegde some). If all you wanted was peachs and cream, and jolly good times, it wasnt the brightest idea to venture into the tech support forum during one of the buggest phases any game has produced this yr.

Dont forget, as time goes on, the complaining will get louder, and worse. But thats exactly the way it should be. What your experanicing right now isnt just back lash from bugs, but backlash of the lack of support people have gotten in the last week+.

I understand people are fraustrated, I was fraustrated the first few days after release because the game didnt work as I had thought it would, as smooth as Civ 3 (the current version and not the release version) and keeps crashing (and completely doesnt work on my laptop, i might add). But I got help from this forum and now able to somewhat enjoy the game as it should be. Then, not as many people had gotten the game or had the chance to experience the problems because it was during the weekdays so it was much easier to browse the forum, keep in mind that searching had been disabled since the first few days after release.

However, during the first weekend, when a whole bunch of people started posting how crappy this game is, it's started to get harder to find useful posts. This, of course, made people even more fraustrated. How is seeing more people complaining about more problems and having a hard time finding solutions you're looking for, help you other than making you believe that this is it, you just wasted $50 on a game that doesnt work. And like I said, the first few posts were called for, since there were so many problems, but move-on, instead of complaining, try the solutions and post whether or not it works or not, and then try other stuffs. Help others who just got the game and are in the same boat as you. Like I said, constructive posts, be it positive or negative. I am sure the people at Firaxis are reading the forums constantly seeing if people have figured solutions to problem they'd never encounter on their test systems, so posting more solutions rather than complaints would only speed up the process and the release of an OFFICIAL patch.
