Here's one that teaches a valuable lesson to my generation:

Meat Loaf
"Paradise By The Dashboard Light"

I. Paradise

Boy:
I remember every little thing
As if it happened only yesterday
Parking by the lake
And there was not another car in sight
And I never had a girl
Looking any better than you did
And all the kids at school
They were wishing they were me that night

And now our bodies are oh so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
C'mon! Hold on tight!
C'mon! Hold on tight!

Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light

Girl:
Ain't no doubt about it
We were doubly blessed
Cause we were barely seventeen
And we were barely dressed

Ain't no doubt about it
Baby got to go and shout it
Ain't no doubt about it
We were doubly blessed

Boy:
Cause we were barely seventeen
And we were barely dressed

Baby doncha hear my heart
You got it drowning out the radio
I've been waiting so long
For you to come along and have some fun

And I gotta let ya know
No you're never gonna regret it
So open up your eyes I got a big surprise
It'll feel all right
Well I wanna make your motor run

And now our bodies are oh so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
C'mon! Hold on tight!
C'mon! Hold on tight!

Though it's cold and lonley in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light
Paradise by the dashboard light

You got to do what you can
And let Mother Nature do the rest
Ain't no doubt about it
We were doubly blessed
Cause we were barely seventeen
And we were barely--

We're gonna go all the way tonight
We're gonna go allt he way
An tonight's the night...

Radio Broadcast:
Ok, here we go, we got a real pressure cooker
going here, two down, nobody on, no score,
bottom of the ninth, there's the wind-up and
there it is, a line shot up the middle, look
at him go. This boy can really fly!
He's rounding first and really turning it on
now, he's not letting up at all, he's gonna
try for second; the ball is bobbled out in center,
and here comes the throw, and what a throw!
He's gonna slide in head first, here he comes, he's out!
No, wait, safe--safe at second base, this kid really
makes things happen out there.
Batter steps up to the plate, here's the pitch--
he's going, and what a jump he's got, he's trying
for third, here's the throw, it's in the dirt--
safe at third! Holy cow, stolen base!
He's taking a pretty big lead out there, almost
daring him to try and pick him off. The pitcher
glance over, winds up, and it's bunted, bunted
down the third base line, the suicide squeeze in on!
Here he comes, squeeze play, it's gonna be close,
here's the throw, there's the play at the plate,
holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!

II. Let Me Sleep On It

Girl:
Stop right there!
I gotta know right now!
Before we go any further--!

Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life?
Will you take me away and will you make me your wife?
Do you love me!?
Will you love me forever!?
Do you need me!?
Will you never leave me!?
Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life!?
Will you take me away and will you make me your wife!?
I gotta know right now
Before we go any further
Do you love me!!!?
Will you love me forever!!!?

Boy:
Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby let me sleep on it
Let me sleep on it
And I'll give you my answer in the morning

Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby let me sleep on it
Let me sleep on it
And I'll give you my answer in the morning

Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby let me sleep on it
Let me sleep on it
And I'll give you my answer in the morning

Girl:
I gotta know right now!
Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life?
Will you take me away and will you make me your wife?
I gotta know right now!
Before we go any further
Do you love me?
And will you love me forever?

Boy:
Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby let me sleep on it
Let me sleep on it
And I'll give you my answer in the morning
Let me sleep on it!!!

Girl:
Will you love me forever?

Boy:
Let me sleep on it!!!

Girl:
Will you love me forever!!!

III. Praying for the End of Time

Boy:
I couldn't take it any longer
Lord I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me
Like a tidal wave
I started swearing to my god and on my mother's grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore that I would love you to the end of time!

So now I'm praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I'm praying for the end of time
It's all that I can do
Praying for the end of time, so I can end my time with you!!!

Boy:
It was long ago and it was far away
and it was so much better than it is today

Girl:
It never felt so good
It never felt so right
And we were glowing like
A metal on the edge of a knife

Tears In Heaven
Eric Clapton and Will Jennings

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong
here in heaven.

Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day,
'Cause I know I just can't stay
here in heaven.

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart, have you begging please,
begging please.

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure,
And I know there'll be no more
tears in heaven.

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong
here in heaven.

Very nice choices, Mr "I drive the chariot of the Sun";)

And now for something completely different.

RALLY ROUND THE WEST INDIES - Dave Rudder
For ten long years
We ruled the cricket world
Now the rule seems coming to an end
But down here
Just a chink in the armour
Is enough, enough to lose a friend
Some of the old generals have retired and gone
And the runs don't come by as they did before
But when the Toussaints go the Dessalines come
We've lost the battle but yet we will win the war

CHORUS :
Rally, rally round the West Indies
Now and forever
Rally, rally round the West Indies
Never say never
Pretty soon the runs are going to flow like water
Bringing so much joy to every son and daughter
Say we're going to rise again like a raging fire
As the sun shines you know we gonna take it higher
Rally, rally round the West Indies
Now and forever
Rally, rally round the West Indies

Way Down Under a warrior falls
Michael Holding falls in the heat of the battle
"Michael shoulda left long time!"
I heard an angry brother shout
Caribbean man, that, that, that is the root of our trouble
In these tiny theatres of conflict and confusion
Better known as the isles of the West Indies
We already know who brought us here
And who created this confusion
So I'm begging, begging my people please
CHORUS

Now they are making restrictions and laws to spoil our beauty
But in the end we shall prevail
This is not just cricket, this thing goes beyond the boundary
It's up to you and me to make sure that they fail
Soon we must take a side or be lost in the rubble
In a divided world that don't need islands no more
Are doomed forever to be at somebody's mercy?
Little keys can open up mighty doors . . .

CHORUS

TODAY - Smashing Pumpkins

Today is the greatest
Day I've ever known
Can't live for tomorrow,
Tomorrow's much too long
I'll burn my eyes out
Before I get out

I wanted more
Than life could ever grant me
Bored by the chore
Of saving face

Today is the greatest
Day I've ever known
Can't wait for tomorrow
I might not have that long
I'll tear my heart out
Before I get out

Pink ribbon scars
That never forget
I tried so hard
To cleanse these regrets
My angel wings
Were bruised and restrained
My belly stings

Today is
Today is
Today is
The greatest day

I want to turn you on
I want to turn you on
I want to turn you on
I want to turn you

Today is the greatest
Today is the greatest day
Today is the greatest day
That I have ever really known

=========================================

The Soldier's Song
We'll sing a song, a soldier's song,
With cheering rousing chorus,
As round our blazing fires we throng,
The starry heavens o'er us;
Impatient for the coming fight,
And as we wait the morning's light,
Here in the silence of the night,
We'll chant a soldier's song.

Chorus:

Soldiers are we
whose lives are pledged to Ireland;
Some have come
from a land beyond the wave.
Sworn to be free,
No more our ancient sire land
Shall shelter the despot or the slave.
Tonight we man the gap of danger
In Erin's cause, come woe or weal
'Mid cannons' roar and rifles peal,
We'll chant a soldier's song.

In valley green, on towering crag,
Our fathers fought before us,
And conquered 'neath the same old flag
That's proudly floating o'er us.
We're children of a fighting race,
That never yet has known disgrace,
And as we march, the foe to face,
We'll chant a soldier's song.

Chorus

Sons of the Gael! Men of the Pale!
The long watched day is breaking;
The serried ranks of Inisfail
Shall set the Tyrant quaking.
Our camp fires now are burning low;
See in the east a silv'ry glow,
Out yonder waits the Saxon foe,
So chant a soldier's song.

Chorus

THE FIELDS OF ATHENRY

By a lonely prison wall
I heard a sweet voice calling,
"Danny, they have taken you away.
For you stole Travelian's corn,
That your babes might see the morn,
Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay."
Chorus
Fair lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small freebirds fly.
Our love grew with the spring,
We had dreams and songs to sing
As we wandered through the fields of Athenry.

By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young man calling
"Nothing matters, Jenny, when you're free
Against the famine and the crown,
I rebelled, they ran me down,
Now you must raise our children without me."

Chorus

On the windswept harbour wall,
She watched the last star rising
As the prison ship sailed out across the sky
But she'll watch and hope and pray,
For her love in Botany Bay
Whilst she is lonely in the fields of Athenry.
Whilst she is lonely in the fields of Athenry.

Only Our Rivers Run Free
Michael McConnell
When apples still grow in November
When Blossoms still bloom from each tree
When leaves are still green in December
It's then that our land will be free
I wander her hills and her valleys
And still through my sorrow I see
A land that has never known freedom
And only her rivers run free

I drink to the death of her manhood
Those men who'd rather have died
Than to live in the cold chains of bondage
To bring back their rights were denied
Oh where are you now when we need you
What burns where the flame used to be
Are ye gone like the snows of last winter
And will only our rivers run free?

How sweet is life but we're crying
How mellow the wine but it's dry
How fragrant the rose but it's dying
How gentle the breeze but it sighs
What good is in youth when it's aging
What joy is in eyes that can't see
When there's sorrow in sunshine and flowers
And still only our rivers run free

THE FENIAN RECORD PLAYER
Unknown
Wee Willie John McFadden was a loyal Ulster Prod
Who thought that Ian Paisley was one step down from God
He scorned the little children, in the backstreets of Ardoyne
And he thought that history started with the Battle of the Boyne
And he thought that history started with the Battle of the Boyne

One day he took the brick in his hands and dandered up the Falls
He was singing "Up the Rangers" and hummin' Derry's Walls
He broke the big shop window to annoy the Pope of Rome
He took the record player and then he started home
He took the record player and then he started home

Next night they had a hooley at the local Orange Hall
Wee Willie took his player to make music for the boys
He chose a stack of records of a very loyal kind
But when the music started he nearly lost his mind
But when the music started he nearly lost his mind

This Fenian record player was a rebel to the core
It played out songs the Orange Hall had never heard before
For Golly's Brae and Derry's Walls it didn't give a fig
It speeded up God Save the Queen till it sounded like a jig
It speeded up God Save the Queen till it sounded like a jig

Well the boys were plain demented, to the ground Wee Will was thrown
They kicked his ribs in one by one to the tune of Garryowen
They threw him out the window to the song of Old Sinn Fein
They kicked him all down Sandy Row to a Nation Once Again
They kicked him all down Sandy Row to a Nation Once Again

There's a moral to this story, what it is I cannot say
Oh maybe its the ancient curse, crime it will not pay
If you ask Wee Willie McFadden, he'll say "You're kind, you know"
If you want to pinch a record player, do it up the Shankill Road
If you want to pinch a record player, do it up the Shankill Road

My favourite TV theme is:

Red Dwarf Theme

It's cold outside,
there's no kind of atmosphere,
I'm all alone,
More or less.
Let me fly, far away from here,
Fun, fun, fun.
In the sun, sun, sun.

I want to lie,
Shipwrecked and comatose,
drinking fresh,
Mango juice.
Goldfish shoals,
dancing on my toes,
Fun, fun, fun.
In the sun, sun, sun.
Fun, fun, fun.
In the sun, sun, sun.

The Letter
(written by Wayne Carson Thompson)

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane,
Ain't got time to take a fast train.
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home,
'Cause my baby just a-wrote me a letter.

I don't care how much money I gotta spend,
Got to get back to my baby again
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home,
'Cause my baby just a-wrote me a letter.

Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no mo'.
Listen mister can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once a-mo'--anyway...

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane,
Ain't got time to take a fast train.
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home,
'Cause my baby just a-wrote me a letter.

Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no mo'.
Listen mister can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once a-mo'--anyway...

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane,
Ain't got time to take a fast train.
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home,
'Cause my baby just a-wrote me a letter.
Because my baby just a-wrote me a letter.

WHEN I WAS YOUNG
The rooms were so much colder then
My father was a soldier then
And times were very hard
When I was young

I smoked my first cigarette at ten
And for girls, I had a bad yen
And I had quite a ball
When I was young

When I was young, it was more important
Pain more painful
Laughter much louder
Yeah, when I was young
When I was young

I met my first love at thirteen
She was brown and I was pretty green
And I learned quite a lot when I was young
When I was young

When I was young
Pain more painful
Laughter much louder
Yeah, when I was young
When I was young

My faith was so much stronger then
I believed in fellow man
And I was so much older then
When I was young
When I was young
When I was young

APEMAN - The Kinks

I think I'm sophisticated
'Cos I'm living my life like a good homosapien
But all around me everybody's multiplying
Till they're walking round like flies man
So I'm no better than the animals sitting in their cages
in the zoo man
'Cos compared to the flowers and the birds and the trees
I am an ape man
I think I'm so educated and I'm so civilized
'Cos I'm a strict vegetarian
But with the over-population and inflation and starvation
And the crazy politicians
I don't feel safe in this world no more
I don't want to die in a nuclear war
I want to sail away to a distant shore and make like an ape man
I'm an ape man, I'm an ape ape man
I'm an ape man I'm a King Kong man I'm ape ape man
I'm an ape man
'Cos compared to the sun that sits in the sky
compared to the clouds as they roll by
Compared to the bugs and the spiders and flies
I am an ape man
In man's evolution he has created the cities and
the motor traffic rumble, but give me half a chance
and I'd be taking off my clothes and living in the jungle
'Cos the only time that I feel at ease
Is swinging up and down in a coconut tree
Oh what a life of luxury to be like an ape man
I'm an ape, I'm an ape ape man, I'm an ape man
I'm a King Kong man, I'm a voo-doo man
I'm an ape man
I look out my window, but I can't see the sky
'Cos the air pollution is fogging up my eyes
I want to get out of this city alive
And make like an ape man
Come and love me, be my ape man girl
And we will be so happy in my ape man world
I'm an ape man, I'm an ape ape man, I'm an ape man
I'm a King Kong man, I'm a voo-doo man
I'm an ape man
I'll be your Tarzan, you'll be my Jane
I'll keep you warm and you'll keep me sane
and we'll sit in the trees and eat bananas all day
Just like an ape man
I'm an ape man, I'm an ape ape man, I'm an ape man
I'm a King Kong man, I'm a voo-doo man
I'm an ape man.
I don't feel safe in this world no more
I don't want to die in a nuclear war
I want to sail away to a distant shore
And make like an ape man.

CRICKET - The Kinks
Lyrics:
(Sung by The Vicar)

Some people say that life is a game, well if this is so
I'd like to know the rules on which this game of life is based.
I know of no game more fitting than the age old game of cricket
It has honour, it has character and it's British.
Now God laid down the rules of life when he wrote those Ten Commandments
And to cricket those ten same rules shall apply.
Show compassion and self-righteousness and be honest above all
And come to God's call with bat and ball.

Now the Devil has a player and he's called the Demon Bowler,
He's shrewd, he's rude and he's wicked.
He is sent by Sinful Satan and he's out to take your wicket
And you know that that's not cricket.
He'll baffle you with googlies with leg breaks and offspin
But keep a level head and don't let that demon in.
So keep a straight bat at all times, let the Bible be your guide
And you'll get by, yes you'll get by.

All through your life he'll try to bowl you out
Beware the Demon bowler.
He's crafty and deceitful and he'll try to L.B.W.,
And bowl a maiden over.
The Devil takes the weak in spirit and so we must always be courageous
And remember that God is on your side.
So keep old Satan in your sights and play the straight and narrow line
And you'll get by, yes you'll get by.

Dedicated Follower Of Fashion
Written by: R. D. Davies

They seek him here, they seek him there,
His clothes are loud, but never square.
It will make or break him so he's got to buy the best,
'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.

And when he does his little rounds,
'Round the boutiques of London Town,
Eagerly pursuing all the latest fads and trends,
'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
He thinks he is a flower to be looked at,
And when he pulls his frilly nylon panties right up tight,
He feels a dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
There's one thing that he loves and that is flattery.
One week he's in polka-dots, the next week he is in stripes.
'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.

They seek him here, they seek him there,
In Regent Street and Leicester Square.
Everywhere the Carnabetian army marches on,
Each one an dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
His world is built 'round discoteques and parties.
This pleasure-seeking individual always looks his best
'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.

Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is).
He flits from shop to shop just like a butterfly.
In matters of the cloth he is as fickle as can be,
'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.
He's a dedicated follower of fashion.
He's a dedicated follower of fashion.

STAND BY ME

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid
Oh I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

So darlin' darlin' stand by me
Oh stand by me
Oh stand, stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountain should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry
No I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin' darlin' stand by me
Oh stand by me
Whoa stand now, stand by me, stand by me

Darlin' darlin' stand by me
Oh stand by me
Oh stand now, stand by me, stand by me

Whenever you're in trouble just stand by me
Oh stand by me
Whoa stand now, oh stand, stand by me

Sunny Afternoon
Written by: R. Davies

The tax man's taken all my dough,
And left me in my stately home,
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.
And I can't sail my yacht,
He's taken everything I've got,
All I've got's this sunny afternoon.

Save me, save me, save me from this squeeze.
I got a big fat mama trying to break me.
And I love to live so pleasantly,
Live this life of luxury,
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime

My girlfriend's run off with my car,
And gone back to her ma and pa,
Telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty.
Now I'm sitting here,
Sipping at my ice cold beer,
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.

Help me, help me, help me sail away,
Well give me two good reasons why I oughta stay.
'Cause I love to live so pleasantly,
Live this life of luxury,
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime

Ah, save me, save me, save me from this squeeze.
I got a big fat mama trying to break me.
And I love to live so pleasantly,
Live this life of luxury,
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime

The Long And Winding Road - The Beatles
- Lennon/McCartney

The long and winding road
that leads to your door,
Will never disappear,
I've seen that road before
It always leads me here,
leads me to your door.
The wild and windy night
the rain washed away,
Has left a pool of tears
crying for the day.

Why leave me standing here,
let me know the way
Many times I've been alone
and many times I've cried
Anyway you'll never know
the many ways I've tried,
but still they lead me back
to the long and winding road
You left me standing here
a long, long time ago
Don't leave me waiting here,
lead me to you door

Long Long Time
- Linda Ronstadt

Love will abide
Take things in stride
Sounds like good advice
But there's no one at my side

And time washes clean
Love's wounds unseen
That's what someone told me
But I don't know what it means

Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you
For a long, long time

Caught in my fears
Blinking back the tears
I can't say you hurt me
When you never let me near

And I never drew
One response from you
All the while you fell
Over girls you never knew

And I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think it's gonna hurt me
For a long, long time

Wait for the day, you go away
Knowing that you warned me
Of the price I'd have to pay

And life's full of loss
Who knows the cost
Living in the memory
Of the love that never was

Cause I've done everything I know
To try and change your mind
And I think I'm gonna miss you
For a long, long time
And I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you
For a long, long time

Woops! Just noticed the Stand by Me repetition, whilst checking ze thread. Plz don't kill me.

THROW YOUR ARMS AROUND ME- Hunters and Collectors

I will come for you at night time
I will raise you from your sleep
I will kiss you in four places
I'll go running along your street
I will squeeze the life out of you
You will make me laugh and make me cry
We will never forget it
You will make me call your name and I'll shout it to the blue summer sky

We may never meet again
So shed your skin and lets get started
And you will throw your arms around me

I dreamed of you at night time
And I watched you in your sleep
I met you in high places
I touched your head and touched your feet
So if you disappear out of view
You know, I will never say goodbye
Though I try to forget it
You will make me call your name and I'll shout it to the blue summer sky

We may never meet again
So shed your skin and lets get started
And you will throw your arms around me
Yeah you will throw you arms around me
(repeat to end)

The KKK Took My Baby Away- The Ramones

She went away for the holidays
Said she's going to L.A.
But she never got there
She never got there
She never got there, they say (rep.)

The KKK took my baby away
They took her away
Away from me
The KKK took my baby away
They took her away
Away from me

Now I don't know
Where my baby can be
They took her from me
They took her from me
I don't know
Where my baby can be
They took her from me
They took her from me

Ring me, ring me ring me
Up the President
And find out
Where my baby went
Ring me, ring me, ring me
Up the FBI
And find out if
My baby's alive
Yeah, yeah, yeah

o-o-o-o-o-o
o-o-o-o-o-o

She went away for the holidays (rep.)

The KKK took my baby away (rep.)

They took my girl
They took my baby away

ROLLING STONES

Not Fade Away

I wanna tell you how it's gonna be
You're gonna give your love to me
I'm gonna love you night and day
Love is love and not fade away
And my love is bigger than a Cadillac
I'll try to show it if you drive me back

Your love for me has got to be real
Before you'd have noticed how I feel
Love real not fade away
Well love real not fade away
Yeah

I wanna tell you how it's gonna be
You're gonna give your love to me
Love that lasts more than one day
Well love is love and not fade away
Well love is love and not fade away
Well love is love and not fade away
Well love is love and not fade away
Not fade away
Not fade away

These Days- Powdefinger

it's coming round again
The slowly creeping hand
Of time and its command
Soon enough it comes
and settles in its place
Its shadow in my face
Puts pressure in my day

This life well it's slipping right through my hands
These days turned out nothing like I had planned

It's coming round again
The slowly creeping hand
Of time and its demands
It settles in its place
Its shadow in my face
Undignified and lame

This life well it's slipping right through my hands
These days turned out nothing like I had planned
Control well it's slipping right through my hands
These days turned out nothing like I had planned

Soon enough it comes
Soon enough it comes
To tie us down

GARRYOWEN

Let Bacchus' sons be not dismayed
But join with me, each jovial blade
Come, drink and sing and lend your aid
To help me with the chorus:

cho: Instead of spa, we'll drink brown ale
And pay the reckoning on the nail;
No man for debt shall go to jail
From Garryowen in glory.

We'll beat the bailiffs out of fun,
We'll make the mayor and sheriffs run
We are the boys no man dares dun
If he regards a whole skin.

Our hearts so stout have got no fame
For soon 'tis known from whence we came
Where'er we go they fear the name
Of Garryowen in glory

Moon River - Andy Williams
- music by Henry Mancini

Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way.

Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end,
waitin' 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend,
moon river, and me.

Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossin' you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way.

Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after that same rainbow's end,
waitin' 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend,
moon river, and me.

Goldfish shoals,

I love that song too! BTW, isn't the line I quoted above "Goldfish shoals, nibbling on my toes" ?

APEMAN - The Kinks

That song is really funny, and here's another hit off the same album:

Lola
by The Kinks
I met her in a club down in North Soho
where you drink champagne and it tastes just like Coca Cola
C-O-L-A Cola.

She walked up to me and she asked me to dance.
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said, "Lola"
L-O-L-A Lola, lo lo lo Lola

Well, I'm not the world's most physical guy,
but when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my Lola, lo lo lo Lola, lo lo lo Lola

Well, I'm not dumb but I can't understand
why she walks like a woman and talks like a man
Oh my Lola, lo lo lo Lola, lo lo lo Lola

Well, we drank champagne and danced all night,
under electric candlelight,
she picked me up and sat me on her knee,
She said, "Little boy won't you come home with me?"

Well, I'm not the world's most passionate guy,
but when I looked in her eyes,
I almost fell for my Lola,
Lo lo lo Lola, lo lo lo Lola

I pushed her away. I walked to the door.
I fell to the floor. I got down on my knees.
I looked at her, and she at me.

Well that's the way that I want it to stay.
I always want it to be that way for my Lola.
Lo lo lo Lola.

Girls will be boys, and boys will be girls.
It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world,
except for Lola. Lo lo lo Lola. Lo lo lo Lola.

Well I left how just a week before,
and I never ever kissed a woman before,
Lola smiled and took me by the hand,
she said, "Little boy, gonna make you a man."

Well I'm not the world's most masculine man,
but I know what I am and that I'm a man,
so is Lola.
Lo lo lo Lola. Lo lo lo Lola.

Did I hear TV theme songs? ;)

Greatest American Hero

Look at what's happened to me,
I can't believe it myself.
Suddenly I'm up on top of the world,
It should've been somebody else.
Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free-.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.
It's like a light of a new day-,
It came from out of the blue.
Breaking me out of the spell I was in,
Making all of my wishes come true-.
Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free-.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.

WKRP In Cincinnati

Baby, if you've ever wondered,
Wondered whatever became of me,
I'm living on the air in Cincinnati,
Cincinnati, WKRP.
Got kind of tired packing and unpacking,
Town to town and up and down the dial
Maybe you and me were never meant to be,
But baby think of me once in awhile.
I'm at WKRP in Cincinnati

Over and out.

Forget About Us
Tim McGraw

I'm gonna drive on out to the river tonight,
Find a quite spot, turn on my parking lights.
I'm gonna drink some beers and try to catch a bus,
Turn my radio up, and forget about us.

I'm gonna lay me down on the hood of this car,
Make another wish upon a falling star.
I'm gonna think again 'bout the way it was.
I'm gonna close my eyes and forget about us.

I know it won't be easy but I've got a plan
To just let my memory let go of your hand.
I'm gonna miss your touch,
But I know I must
Forget about us.

When the morning sun burns across my face
I'll put my shirt back on, get up and walk away.
I'm gonna climb my frame on to a Greyhound bus,
Take a little blue pill and forget about us.

I know it won't be easy but I've got a plan
To just let my memory let go of your hand.
I'm gonna miss your touch,
But I know I must
Forget about us.

By the time I Pheonix, I won't know your name. Those soft, green eyes, warm skin, the way you say good morning. And I'll be alright.

She just wants to be
REM

it's not that she walked away,
her world got smaller.
all the usual places,
the same destinations,
only something's changed.

it's not that she wasn't rewarded,
with pomegranite afternoons
of mingus, chet baker and chess.
it's not stampeding fortune,
or prim affectations.
she's off on her own
but she knows

now is greater than the whole of the past
is greater, and now she knows

she just wants to be somewhere
she just wants to be

it's not that the transparency
of her earlier incarnations
now looked back on, weren't rich
and loaded with beutiful vulnerability
and now she knows

now is greater
and she knows that

she just wants to be somewhere
she just wants to be

now is greater, now is greater.
and she knows that

she just wants to be somewhere
she just wants to be
she just wants to be somewhere
she just wants to be

it's not like if angels
could truly look down
stir up the trappings
and light on the ground.
remind us of what, when, why or who
that how's up to us, me and you.
and now is greater than the whole of the past

is greater, and now she knows that.
now she knows.

Since I hate typing, here's one from a Dutch band called 'De Raggende Mannen' (ask woke for the translation)

IK VIND JE LEUK!
IK VIND JE AARDIG!
MAAR JE STIKT UIT JE BEK!
ALS EEN BEER UIT Z'N REET!

The whole song lasts about 20 seconds but pretty much sums up how I feel about this girl I met last night ;)

Pocket Full of Gold
Vince Gill

He slipped the ring off his finger
When he walked in the room.
And he found him some stranger,
Promised her the moon.

How many lies you must have told!
You think you're a rich man with your pocket full of gold.

And for another man's treasure
You'd say anything.
But is one night of pleasure
Worth the trouble you'll bring?

Don't look so surprised. Son, I should know.
I once was a rich man with my pocket full of gold.

Some night you're gonna wind up
On the wrong end of a gun.
Some jealous guy's gonna show up
And you'll pay for what you've done.

And what will it say on your tombstone?
"Here lies a rich man, with his pocket full of gold."

Yeah. Here lies a rich man with his pocket full of gold.

Denis Leary's "Traditional Irish Folk Song"

They come over here and they take all our land
They chop off our heads and they boil them in oil
Our children are leaving and we have no heads
We drink and we sing and we drink and we die
We have no heads
We have no heads

They come over here and they chop off our legs
They cut off our hands and put nails in our eyes
O'Grady is dead and O'Hanrahan's gone
We drink and we die and continue to drink
O'Hanrahan
No'Hanrahan

They buried O'Neil down in country Shillhame
The poor children crying and fe dee din de
Hin fle di dinfle
Di din fle de din de
In hey bibble bibble
Hey bibble bibble
Hey fle bibble de
O'Hanrahan
No O'Hanrahan

We drink and we sing
And we drink and we sing
Hey!

We drink and we drive
And we puke and we drink
Hey!

We drink and we fight
And we bleed and we cry
Hey!

We puke and we smoke
And we drink and we die
Hey!

This is my first contribution to this list (couldn't think of a better word for it), and despite the title I shan't be dedicating it to anyone. Perhaps Graeme the Mad though......
This is the wonderful Paintball's Coming Home by Half Man Half Biscuit, a scouse fella and some session musicians. It is to the tune of "He's got the whole world in his hands" and is of a humourous bent. A glossary for those non-Brits is included at the bottom.

Paintball's Coming Home
They've got the whole world in their house,
They've got the whole world in their house,
They've got the whole world in their house,
To see the new conservatory.

They go 10 pin bowling after work,
Thye go 10 pin bowling after work,
They go 10 pin bowling after work,
They're getting married on a Caribbean beach.

They've got a German Shepherd dog called Prince,
They've got a German Shepherd dog called Prince,
They've got a German Shepherd dog called Prince,
The one called Sheba died.

They know where things are in B&Q,
They know where things are in B&Q,
They know where things are in B&Q,
They've got the Joy of Sex video.

[spoken] If I were a linesman, I would execute defenders who applauded my offsides.

They were due on the Crystal Maze,
They were due to go on the Crystal Maze,
They were due on the Crystal Maze,
But they got mugged in Florida.

They went up in a hot air balloon,
They declared their love in a hot air balloon,
They drank champagne in a hot air balloon,
And had a row on New Year's Eve.

They've got nothing but total respect for,
They've got nothing but total respect for,
They've got nothing but total respect for....
Annie Lennox.

[spoken] And if I'd known they were coming I'd have slashed me wrists.

Glossary
Paintball's coming home is a reference to Football's coming home, the England song for the Euro 96 championships, but obviously with a more nouveau-riche "sport". Having said that, have you seen the people claiming to be football fans these days?
B&Q is a popular British hardware store, Mecca for those indulging in the new fashion for home improvement.
Offside? I wouldn't even know where to begin explaining that. :)
The Crystal Maze was a British gameshow hosted by the bald bloke who wrote the Rocky Horror Picture Show and basically consisted of groups of trendy young things doing various physical and mental challenges against the clock encumbered by some tight gym wear. I'm sure the franchise travelled around the world so many of you will be familiar with it.
Annie Lennox is a banshee.

I hate fashionable people.

"Monster Mash" (Pickett/Capizzi)

I was workin' in my lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight.
My monster from the slab began to rise,
When suddenly, to my surprise,

He did the mash.
He did the monster mash.
The monster mash.
It was a graveyard smash.
It was a smash.
It caught on in a flash.
The monster mash.
He did the monster mash.

From the Hall of Gore in the Castle East,
To the master bedroom, where the vampires feast,
The ghouls all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt from my electrodes.

CHORUS

(and a shoop-da-doo)
The Zombies were having fun.
(and a shoop-da-doo)
The party had just begun.
(and a shoop-da-doo)
The guests included Wolfman, Dracula, and his son.

The Brain Surgeons were all digging the sound.
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds.
The Poodle Stabbers were about to arrive
With their vocal group, The Crypt-Kicker Five.

CHORUS

Come in, Boris. We always have a guest for breakfast. (laugh)
Come in, Horis. We always have a breast for geckfast. (laugh)
Igor, have you watered the brains today, Igor? Igor?
[maniacal laughter)
