When I first started browsing Civfanatics, it took me awhile to get used to using a web-based forum. I really prefer newsgroup or list-server style threads, although I can see the appeal of some of the more enhanced functions of the vBulletin system.

Anyway, one thing in particular that drives me crazy is vBulletins apparent inability to *truly* recognize unread posts within a thread. If you log on and read a handful of posts, and then log off and return later, the system acts as if you read every single new post in every single thread of every forum:eek:

While this is probably not *news* to most of the netizens here, I did observe something tonight that prompted me to post: I was reading "unread" posts in Civ III General when the clock struck midnight (my time, figuratively speaking). I have my view customized to expand only unread posts, which works realtively well for me. As soon as I crossed the midnight threshold, the next thread I viewed did not expand any posts, which implies that the cookie time/stamp setting for tracking new posts was somehow reset.

For TF, or any mod who knows the answer: Is this something that can be fixed as part of a configuration setting for the forums, or perhaps addressed in some future vBulletin upgrade/patch?

it happens a bit with me mainly when i go to the main demogame forum and then it says in the sub forums theyre arnt any new posts

The unread posts feature is not reliable because it relies heavily on cookies. The only reliable way is to read threads/posts by scanning the date and time. You usually know which posts and threads are new this way. :)
