Time games

Just finishing up my first ever time game (B&S, small, marathon, 147 cities, 45+ sushi res, ~100 turns left) and I have to say I have a new found respect for anyone who plays these on a regular basis (and especially on deity!!!). It takes such a long time and is so micro intensive when settling all the islands / spreading sushi. Plus all the spy missions to thwart AI culture/space wins. Adding in high-level AI that are actually troublesome would make it a nightmare.

I think if I play one of these again I will stay a bit further away from Dom just to reduce paranoia! Would be so annoying to screw up after playing for such a long time.
 
This is just what I was saying!

Now imagine you had to micro 10 times more, becauae maintenance on Deity enforces this. Then imagine taking an asvanced start, so less time, again need for more micro. AIs being fast to Emancipation, more micro because less income die to :mad: , switching away from Slavery not possible because running a 2k deficit and because of needing to spread 2 corps.

In the end, thise games get easy again, whe. Happiness plays no role anymore with Future Tech xxx, but the midsle of thoae games is pure horror.

Playing B&S makes it worse, because one needs even more cities.
 
How do you even keep so many AIs away from space and culture? I assume everybody are going for spaceparts way before 2050AD, and maybe everybody are in position to go for culture too. And we all know late era AIs love espionage, so surely it must be tough to keep on top of everybody with :espionage: points to keep wrecking spaceship parts and culture buildings? Culture will still keep increasing anyway, and there are a lot of turns.

Don't think I would have the patience to go through with something like that. Sounds like a nightmare.
 
You simply gotta be fast enough. Once one has the future techs keeping all the population happy, economy is 1000 times better with 150 Sushi fueled cities against 10-20 cities AIs. One can run 0% research and still get 1 future tech / turn, and building the espionage multipliers with Mining is also easy.
The only bad thing is, that one needs hords of Spies, like 2-3 cities which build 1 Spy / turn and they do that for 400 turns, and all spies need to be shipped to their location.

Culture Victory doesn't seem to be a problem. Once Mansa wanted to go for it, then I gifted him Satellites and he began researching again. Sabotaging the Cathedrals would have been only slightly more time intensive than sabotaging the SS parts.

It doesn't have to be a nightmare. I never use any spies. I simply conquer almost everyone, leaving the last AI crippled, on an icy wasteland. And this is easier than it sounds, because it's not like you're doing fast conquest with HorseArchers, you can use advanced military (nukes?) etc.

And you don't need more cities just cus you play B&S. Sure, you want more cities to get more score, but that's only if you're going for some score record on Time.

If you just wanna win, it's not that much work. It's only as tedious as you make it.

If you do leave a viable AI don't forget to destroy their Monasteries once they get Sci Meth :satan:
 
Killing the AIs makes trading their resources impossible Wastin. When going for a HoF #1, one will want to have them too.
And I guess that using the Spies isn't even a lot more work than killing the AIs. Once one has set up a nice chain, those moves don't take more than 30s / T.
