To Hell With Firaxis

Well, this does seem to be a very widespread problem among ATI users. I've got an ATI x800 XL 256mb that has zero problems on every other game I've got (runs them all quite well, actually!), and to have these utterly strange errors with a very large number of people (no telling how many poor folks aren't even posting on the forums, given the number who have) with ATI cards is simply a case of very lackluster testing before shoving it out the door.

This isn't a 'oh what a wide variety of graphics cards there are, there are bound to be problems!' issue, since the, oh, fifteen other games on my system (including another Firaxis title, Pirates!), had _zero_ problems right out of the box.

Having a game that is unplayable right out of the box on a higher end system that blows the specs out of the water is shockingly poor worksmanship.

So you are having issues with the x800?

Not all the GEforce 4 the MX version don'T support it as far as I remember
Even the first Geforce(Geforce 256) had Tranformation and lighting. The Geforce 4 MX doesn't have pixel shaders while the Geforce 4 Ti has pixel shader 1.1.

Yes, ATI RADEON x800 XL 256mb, I get the render error. I'm still troubleshooting, but, no luck yet.

Be mad at Intel, not Firaxis. Today is 2005, this game requires 2001 graphic card capabilities! Try to run F.E.A.R. with your computer-shaped trash can!

Can we be mad at Firaxis for not using the correct version of DX instead?

Just about any game now will require more than integrated graphics. Don't get mad at Firaxis because youre left in the dust. If you really want to play this game you can buy a semi decent card to run it.

yea, but the guy with the x800 shouldn't be having problems.....

Intel? Yeah, that's your problem right there.

I'm happily surprised with performance with an AMD T-Bird 1.4ghz / ATI Radeon 9500pro / 1gig ram. PC is 4 yrs old and runs most things fairly well (BF2 etc) BUT I was worried until I saw it running and am liking this game mucho.

The terrain thing almost sound like texture memory for video card might not be keeping up? (maybe adjust video card settings for performance from the default "balanced" will help. Not sure exact translation for NVIDIA on settings--but if You've got an older amd/ati setup---CIV4 is going to make you happy.

Does your video card support T&L? Because I've heard that is what causes the terrain blackness problem.

I don't think the blackness is necessarily caused by lack of T&L. My card ATI 320m supports T&L according to srtest.com yet I get the blackness. :(

Frustration rarely solves any problems. ;)
I think your graphics card isn't good enough to run the game. Upgrade it and you won't be upsed.

Bought a nice new, powerful ATI card, paid 50 bucks for a game that DOES NOT WORK. Cheer for Firaxis all you like, but this is a major screw-up and they're not admitting it!!!

I really appreciate the feedback guys, but I don't even have an ATI video card. It's an intel. I've been at this since 3:00PM. Tried everything applicable:cry:

Thanks,

ROFL you blame Firaxis even though you have an intel graphics chip? ROFL!!! wow, its your fault for not upgrading your graphics card. how about looking at the minimum requirements before purchasing a game. thats all ur fault. i thought you had an ati, which i would have understood, but i dont pity you at all.

You dont come here and dis them, if firaxis takes a crap, slap the words sid meiers on it, you should go pay 49.95 for you little ingreat :)
