This is what I say about the Confederate flag:

It is rascist.

It is part of History, but so is the Swatica. You don't see Germans waving a Swastica and saying it is part of their history.

It is un-American.

It's also traitorous as it promotes succession from the united states.
So in truth the confederate flag is a symbol showing that those who fly it are traitors.
My opinion as a northerner (in pennsylvannia where people actually have the gall to fly the confederate flag, and no they are not southerners so this is a completely racist act) is that the only place it belongs is on civil war memorials BELOW the U.S. flag and in museums.
Anyone else who flies it is a traitor...
I would also have allowed civil war vets to fly it but they are all dead by now so it is a mute point.

Now I'm not an American never mind a Southerner, but still, don't you think this is going a little too far? To have such a problem with the Confederate flag?

Well I live in the north and lots of people fly it here.
They are not southerners. It is a racist statement here without question.

The flag is a symbol of revolt aganist our democratic government and is a racist symbol.
I don't like Bush but you don't see me revolting!
The southern revolt was in reaction to the election of lincoln who was also democratically elected.
By flying the confederate flag you state that you support revolting against democratically elected leaders.

It's in, "The dukes of Hazzard"

that should be enough.

Actually it represents the rights of the state.

Just because it was a symbol of the south during the Civil War doesn't mean it is neccesarily racist.

I don't think it does you know.
WHY NOT! the main point of the Confederacy was to keep slavery in the South!

i live in the West and i know only one person who has the Flag of Traitors. He was my best friend in Kindergarten, but he turned into a rascist bigot. He also probably hates America. Its wierd 'cause he used to be such a nice guy.

thats like saying, "how come the Jews don't find the Nazi flag rascist?"

I moslty agree. I HATE Bush but i won't revolt. however, people have the right to revolt against an elected president. For example, Hitler was elected. But i do agree that the Flag of traitors is a rascist symbol. But it should be allowed to fly on private property because of Freedon of Speech. All states should take i off their buildings/flags.

Jusfiy using the Confederate flag:

Okay easy...... the Frist Andement:beer:......I know I spelled that wrong.

But seriouly folks banning everything the majority of Americans find offenivse then were just an Authorian Democracy and that's just as bad as the Nazis.

I am going to a movement to ban the American Flag, it offends sunburned Zebras

Again, my second post highlighted a typo, nothing more.

Ok I'll explain again....
I live in the north.
Non southerners fly it here, it is not their cultural heritage.
Where I live it is a racist symbol, that is the intent of those who fly it here. They actually are flying the confederate flag as a display of their racism. It is INTENTIONALLY flown as a racist symbol here.

If the are flying it to display their racism then how is it not a racist symbol?
And again this is the North so there is no other reason to fly it. There is no excuse!

I don't support the Confederate flag flyers at all (as I view them as supporting treason against the U.S.) but I do have some questions with your points...

The swastika is banned in much of Europe, including Germany.

It is un-American.

Do you think the hammer and sickle icon is un-American?

I WOULD NOT support banning the Confederate flag or any other flag. However, it is still wrong, rascist and un-American.

I must agree.
As I previously said it should only be on war memorials and in museums.

It's usually understoof as racist whenever people see it in New York. But, I still don't understand the obsession people have with using the Confederate flag. As far as I've seen, the flyers have either been traitorous, racist, or both. I'm sure there's someone who just flies it for the hell of it...but I'm only talking about those I've seen.

There is a LOT more to it than that

The flag has come to symbolize a spirit of rebelliousness and individual freedom, which many feel are being taken away by our government as it is now, making the Confederate flag much more representative of these ideals than the US flag to those people, even though the US was created because of those same ideals. If people's intention was to fly a racist symbol, there are much better candidates than the Confederate flag, so I don't think it's fair to characterize people who fly the flag or display its likeness are doing so because they are racist. There are clearly other reasons for it.

"As I previously said it should only be on war memorials and in museums"

isn't that the same thing as banning
