To The Great Beyond - Space Empires!

Hello, just an update in the update - some of you will probably be thinking Daft is up to his old tricks. Recently has been super-busy. Halloween is my favourite time of year for parties so I did make an effort to catch up with people (two parties, I was a bit wrecked on Sunday). Straight back into a very busy work week making a christmas promotion site for Nintendo. Finally, downtime this weekend - no parties, no birthdays, no Rugby world cup, weather is wet and grey, and an update shall appear on my honour!

I really appreciate all the input so far. I'm hopeful that things will get more interesting for you guys as the amount of contacts increase.

Great NEWS! Bring on the dreary English weather!

Well this is awkward... I've had internet outages over the weekend so its been really frustrating. Just to let you know an update is still in the works, and apologies.

:goodjob: I think I talk for everyone when I say "CANT WAIT!".

I'm really sorry for the delay - but this is NOT going to be one of my train wrecks if I can help it. However I've realised I really need to change a couple of things to make this game work long term.

So I'm currently simplifying the planets further and building a 'terrain' map variant that has all the details you need on it - the colonisation cost, details and max resources available at each star. This should mean that people don't have to sift through an ever-increasing list of planet stats to see what is around them.

Also going to simplify the whole trade goods issue. You'll be able to see what income is from internal and external (foreign) trade in the stats, and the'll also be a value for the max possible income you can make via trade.

Also going to clarify the rules around spawning new units, it will be possible to build some things on your colony worlds (like Freighters for example).

...what's up?

What is a Seeooformer? What is it to Seeooform?

The Seeooformer is an machine of greatest complexity, a singer with voices multifarious. A masterpiece of autonomous technology. An instrument that will transform dead and toxic wastes into new, livable worlds.

To Seeooform is to make a planet fit for Hlur. At its completion, it shall represent the highest material achievement of our species. However, its works, grand though they are, shall have no inherent value without us, the the greater achievement still shall fall to us. It is this that shall be the ultimate mission of our directorate: to harmonize these discordant worlds, and bring voice to the universe.

Hello, I'm so sorry this has become a typical Daft game! I've been too ashamed to post here empty-handed.

To be clear I'm not officially cancelling this, and I still want to continue. But I have to admit I totally lost the flow of things back there, constantly fiddling with the rules and all. I realised I wanted to change the map and stats once again, as well as update, and just haven't found the energy... Not to make excuses but a lot of things have been happening in my life as well. Its amazing how busy this time of year can be.

You guys have created some really cool races. I really want to continue this. Hopefully, over the Christmas break I'll be able to get my side of things in order finally. But I don't blame people for bowing out, and unfortunately can't promise to be a better mod either.

I'm still excited for this and would be willing to lead my race into the heavens once more.

Me too.

I don't want to want you anymore
'Cause I've been hurt
Too many times before
I don't want to want you anymore
If you don't want me

The Hlur-Baiheen are ready to continue their ongoing, systematically-delayed Malthusian catastrophe.

First of all: 'sorry!!!'. Life and, well, you know.

Secondly: I'm planning to revive this game under the Stalinist principle of 'not one step back!'. With too many abandoned projects in my wake now, I could never start anything new in good conscience, or even bad conscience. Plus I actually really do like this idea, even if it was badly executed first time around.

I've painstakingly re-worked the map into a hex grid format, which should remove several problems, along with a simplified rule system I'm still in the process of writing up. This also incorporates the unfinished update (pending some things I may have missed). Please take a look:

Spoiler NEW MAP :

A: wondering who is interested in picking up their race/empire/faction where things left off?

B:
wondering how much of the new map makes sense without explanation? (hopefully most of it!)

If there's enough interest to continue this, I'd quite like to start a new clean thread, with new rules and stats. But the new thread will start from where this left off.

:salute:

I am still interested.

A of course. Thou I forgot the rules :D
B seems to make sense. Lines are connections between colonies I assume?

Thought it does look like some empires are strangely bigger than others?

Sweet :D

Forgetting the original rules is a good thing!

Yes, the lines are trade/logistic routes. Some empires have been lucky at this point to find good planets and/or expand faster. But colonies are still relatively low value, and this is not taking into account extra income that each empire gets from technologies, high morale and so forth.

EDIT: there are little survey markers / satellites, which are meant to be a convenient tool to represent where people have explored and what value those planets have to the exploring races. Nothing more than that!
