Hi there!

I've written here a long time ago. I've just started a game with random leader and got Tokugawa. I thought that our Japanese friend is a total warmonger with everything on attack.

I got an early religion - Hinduism, 'cause a goody hut was next to my capital and it gave me Mysticism and I grabbed poly first. I was like .
After several turns I realised that I have ...erm... not so nice neighbours. Got Russians and Aztecs on the south (a bit further though, seperated by a bit of jungle), Khmers on the east and Germans on the northern part of the continent (I was on the western coast by the way). First I managed to convert the Germans and Monty to Hindu, but the Germans founded Confuciasm later on and of course they converted to it.
So the situation: two warmongers, one on my religion and one not on it (btw I never trust Monty really), those annoying Khmers (we had some embarrassing events in the past and they were close to my old cities with big culture boost - tensions on the border) and a blasphemer on the north. Not a too good situation, is it?

The I thought that: I can take defensive/teching stance until the appearance of gunpowder, then I can wipe them out with those C1/CG1/Dr1 promotions. What do you think? I can weaken them with tricky diplomacy till then.

Sounds like the game is perfectly suited to Toku, especially if you have iron.

I wouldn't wait until Gunpowder. Use those Samurais and take out one of the AIs. The Germans would be a good choice since they are probably the only Confucianist and the other AIs may not like them. Or you could have Monty attack someone to keep him busy and you could join in and take some cities.

Monty can not be trusted but he can be bribed to war, you could make a 2-1 against S-man (the Khmer leader, just don't convert him)
What russian leader did you get? Because Cath's temper is legendary, she is a bit opportunistic :mischief:

1) Monty will attack whoever is weakest. Make sure it's not you.

2) If you can get him to attack someone else, he makes a great attack dog... he gets big bonuses for shared religion and shared war, and if he likes you he'll trade with you forever (and give you money, once you have Currency).

3) Samuraaaaaiiiii! Even if they don't benefit from the Protective attribute, they're still one of the best UUs. Those two first strikes really add up after a while. Get them early and go out and kill someone.

I'd probably try to bribe Monty to attack the most advanced or powerful enemy once I get a nice army of samurais and trebs.
You'll probably end up with an army of experienced samurais and trebs that can be upgraded to riflemen and cannons, that will do the death blow with help from your new gunpowder units :)
