Pretty uneventful round. I turned off research so we can see which path from here. 2 have industry and Gil has electricity. Our 200gpt deal paying Gil is up next turn but so is our receiving deals with Aztec for 109gpt and Ports for 140 gpt. I parked the cav on the Celt island north of the Ports. I don't think we have enough ships yet. I think I got way too cute on the saltpeter thing. That was poor judgment.

How do you feel you screwed up the trades? That was me and I should have pulled the trigger earlier to buy the saltpeter back. If we want to take on the Ports we will need to get the Germans involved to get the salt back. (I presume the Ports took the saltpeter).

Hospital finishes at Connie so start a cathedral and send a citizen fishing so the city will grow.

I've been scoping the Portugese coast and it appears that the silk town at Guimares is the best target. The troops are ready and Henry has a rifle and longbow crossing the Iroquois territory for a causus belli. It will also get us allied with Sumeria and if we can break the German Portugese trade then we will get our saltpeter back.

Henry doesn't bite on a declaration of war...so I have to do it the hard way. Sign in Germany, Sumeria and Aztecs to alliances, then buy saltpeter and horses from Germany and China, then land the troops at Guimares.

Germany wants an alliance against the Aztecs, no way, but I do sign an RoP with him.

The Celtic borders expand and we lose our coal to Brennus but the good news is that the Portugese counter our landing by moving their workers into Guimares.

Guimares falls easily, disband a couple of galleons and some Portugese workers to rush a harbor. Then sail the Dromons and a spare galleon up the coast to Lisbon.

The Portugese counter attack at Guimares with a single cavalry that kills a wounded garrison troop, but that's it.

1390-1395
Sink a Portugese galleons and disband some more Prortugese workers then buy a rifle in Guimares. In 1395 since we have no coal sell our iron to the Aztecs for 283g+56gpt and thier World Map. Then use the cash to rush a library in Guimares.

1400
The Portugese cultural borders prevent any trade with Guimares so the silks are not in our inventory yet....and Guimares does not participate in the Byzantine trade net. Used some more cash to rush walls in Guimares even though there has been no meaningful Portugese counter other than one cavalry and a pillaging rifleman.


The cathedral at Connie should finish shortly saving us a ton in entertainment costs, and it just might give us a 20K victory in 2050 (right now we will have 19170 at EoG).

I'm not worry about Guimares holding as the Protugese seem to be out of troops. Reinforcement is a ways away however, so advancing deeper into the Portugese island is not an option AORN.

This looks pretty good. 20K is out of the question, since an AI will probably get space first, so I think diplo is the best way. Space if we're feeling lucky/confident.
