Too much time between turns? How to speed up the game?

Hello everyone.
I don't know if it's the right section to post, in case just tell me. >.<

I'd like to know if the slow time between turns depends on my computer or if there's something I can do.
I've got

Windows Vista SP2
Intel Core DUO CPU
P8700 @2.53 GHz
Ram 6 GB
64 bit

I'm playing on a "Big" MAP, with 10 civilizations (10-12, I don't remember well), and I've eliminated few of them.
Now there should be just 8-9, yet the time between turns is really slow (from 30s to 1/2 minutes).
Is it normal? Is there something I can do?

Thanks

It's because there are sooo many more units to make computations for at this point in the game than earlier. There really isn't a good workaround that I''ve found for this, other than to read a really good book between turns.

Be glad it's not more like 3 minutes, which has happened to me.

Uff.
And is there any way to improve this aspect? Like changing some file, disable some option, etc.?

There is a method...
select small map.
But it is not welcomed solution for everyone

One issue is that unfortunately FfH cannot use the ability of a core processor if I understand correctly. Your time dealy is NOT bad by my experience, it can get much larger. As CL said above, it comes from the huge number of units and cities and decisions being made.

Stack combat can help your turn go faster when SoD fights SoD. Other than that, I just think it is natural for the game on larger maps. A lot of people who enjoy big maps don't play them because of the time delay. Options like final 5 will kill off enemies faster, but it may not help as the surviving civ's will expand more.

Best wishes,

Breunor

Did you turn off show combat and show enemy moves? Turning those off improves speed. You might (or might not) be able to turn off animations; on some mods this does create problems but I’m not sure about FFH2. You can also turn off the music and other sound effects and reduce the resolution or other graphic options.

I've tried to reduce the graphics, but it didn't change anything.
I think that isn't the cause..

I'll try to play on a smaller map, then.
Even if it's really annoying >.<

Or play bigger map with a lot of seas. It would have similar effect - less units (and a lot of space between civs). But AI is weak on seas, so play on higher difficulty that you are used to

Turning off unit animations is not recommended for FfH2. This will interfere with how some units are displayed, and will even make some units essentially invisible.
