I just looked at the new GR page 
I liked the the addtional "number of submissions" columns but I'm not sure of the significance of the "Alive" columns. Is this the number of games that actually count toward the current GR?

I was wondering the same thing as Ted. Anybody knows what "alive" means in the rankings?
Looking at my stats seems like the alive is about ???.

Each individual game result in the Global Rankings has a lifespan linked to the difficulty level of the game. That lifespan dictates how long the game counts towards the Global Rankings, and what fraction of it's full value is used.
The lifespan is 4 + Difficulty (1-5), so a Deity game 'lives' for 9 months, while a Monarch one lives for 7. Taking the Deity game as an example, the first month it counts 9/9, then 8/9, 7/9... until it finally 'dies' at 0/9. This assures that transitions are as smooth as possible month to month. So by 'alive' it just means how many games are still counting towards the player's rating.
A main point about this system is that it's open ended, or rather only closed by the number of events. That is so a submission will never hurt a player's ranking, even if it was played at a lower success level than the player normally achieves.

Wow, I'm surprise that I move upward from 8 to 7 from the last ranking. Surprising since I'm #13 and #18 last 2 GOTMs. It looks like you can maintain a top ten position if you play each GOTM and just play reasonably well, not necessary superbly. I was sandwiched between Bamspeedy and Kemal in global ranking1-17, but these fellas crashed out more than 10 rank lower in the latest. I could not play GOTM20 and since it's Deity with more weightage, I expect myself to fall out from top10 pretty soon!
