No doubt man you're lucky. My wife still being young (she's only 62) told me this very day : "I can't understand you sitted in front of that f...g comp' playing like a kid. Doing the same would have driven me nuts!"
I wish ya the very best and when I'll be gone, think of me, when you will try the last version of the last Sid's item. Keep on playin' and stay young!
Friendly yours

For some reason I can never vote, but I started playing Civ 2 at 13, and am now 16 and a master at Civ 3. You're never too old to play, so long as you don't forget that it's NOT the most important thing in life.

I hope I don't upset anyone...

And what, pray tell, IS more important?

It's not the most important, I do agree, only birth and death really matters. What is in between is only...life. For some reasons some of us spend a large part of it in lies, cheats, crimes of various nature...maybe Civ (1,2,3 whatever)is kinda mockup of life

im 24 years old and i been playing since i was atleast 12-13 .. and i can never put down a game after starting it .. even if i have started another i will eventually go back to an old game and complete it to the bitter end :P .. Civilization has taken up many hours of my time in the 10 years i have been playing .. i would litrally say over 30% of that 10 years has been spent infront of a PC screen playing .. (yes i have no life)

I've been taking Latin longer than I've been playing Civilization! (And I started playing when I was 10!) At least I'm pretty sure few people have bothered to translate my signature, but if they do, I can always fall back on my old favorite quote, "Eheu, mea columba est morta!" (Came up with that years ago... :D)

The second one means something along the lines of " May the Barbarians invade your territory proper" ! The first one's too tricky for me (it's been about 9 years since I last had a Latin class, and I never paid much attention due to the appalling quality of the teaching). "Eheu, mea columba est morta"? Oh dear, my pigeon is dead ?
I posted before, but to remain on topic, I'm 26 - played Civ since the age of 13-14.

21. Fresh meat (played first civ game ever in June).

yep, more than terminal it's a mortal disease sexually transmissible. What can we do in between? Simple : Be smart, be kind and play Civ whatever the version.
I'll make every Civ addict cry : Rise of Nations (RTS yechh! but from Brian Reynolds)is a great item ...

I have to agree with the majority here I’m 22 and I don’t think it matters as long as your having fun. One of the things I like about this game is that you can stop and comeback to finish your game whenever you want, and also take your time with it Makes it easy to play with a busy class schedule, work, and a wife.

It's like I'm looking into a mirror... (or, reading into one, anyway). Couldn't have put it better myself!

Well, dove according to the dictionary I used when writing it, but close enough. In case you were wondering, the first one is basically translated as, "In the olden days, children like you were left to die on windswept crags." :D

And to stay on topic, I'm 14 but am one of the few people of my age bracket (at least at my school) who actually play. It seems most people I know would rather just sit in front of a TV and shoot things on the X-Box than play Civilization.

welll .. if it says anything about Civ .. my dad plays it and he is 68 years old .. his been playing since i got it back in the 90's ... hell my 12 year old cousin is getting into civ 3 ptw on a daily basis ..

32 years old.

I've been playing video games since the Atari and Commodore64 !

And I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. :D

Do you remember the old Bruce Lee and Navy SEALs games for the Commodore64?

No, I don't remember those. The only game I really remember playing on the old Commodore64 was Bard's Tale.
That was my Civ III back in the old days. :D

Age shouldn't stop you playing computer games. I look forward to playing them when i'm 60. Games should be even better then. I have played games on various consoles since the age of 5 and i'm now 16. RESPECT is all i'll say to all those playing it over the age of 40! Hope to do the same. Do any dads play with their children cos you could say your spending quality time with them! lol!

you're right buddy. Don't give up whatever the reasons are or seem to be. You're a living proof of what "improvement" means. When I was a youngster, well let say "some" years ago, I never could imagine what a real gaming experience was. At that time we had wooden and metal toys usually boring or bad imitation of so called "life"...With the computer, providing a good aplication like Sid's (ain't they smart?)you can begin to have fun and to learn simply what means to decide. I don't want to mention neither the FPS nor the sports games but just think about our beloved TBS and maybe some RTS ( yes try Rise of Nation it's a must...). You don't lose your time...I discovered the power of those games in 1991 and from that time I never stopped but I lost and wasted a great deal of time...Too bad

41+, entering next "age" in a couple of months (don't suppose I'll get any free techs, though...).

I've been playing Civ since I stumbled over a copy of Civ I back in '96. I used to play other games also, but nowadays, Civ III is my only addiction. I don't think I'll ever stop playing.

I did play with my kids, but not any longer. The boys are heavily into CS nowadays, and the girl into horses. At least, that means I have the CD all to myself and can play whenever I've got time for it (and that tends to be often...)

Im 16. I started playing civI when i was like 9 or 10. I saw my dad playing it, and being the first born i wanted to mimic everything he did, so i started playing. It was really rough at first, lol, i had no idea what to do (i was always refering to the "civilopedia"...love that name). The funny thing is i never upgraded...never got in to any of the civII's. I played civ one untill about a year and a half ago. But when i finally got a job i wanted to take a look at civIII. This is hands down my absolute favorite game(this and starcraft), and i know that ill be playing it when 60+...

You're right buddy definately right. Keep on playing the game you like whatever would happen. The only regrets I can formulate today is that it is somehow unlikely that I could tell anything sensible about the future sequels of our beloved Civ ( 1,2,3...X)
But don't be to narrowminded, Rise of Nations is also a great hit.
Play and have fun. If this could make anybody to think, thus Sid would have done a real good job.
