wow its so rare to see anyone younger than 25 here ive only seen around 20-30, but youll get better at civ, its easy to learn, hard too master.

Just under 1/3rd of the posters are under 20. Not rare :p

I have noticed that in several of games that I play the "hardcore" crowd that play the game for months are usually older people. The younger players tend to play a game for a week or two and then move on to newer stuff. I even know of racing team NKA (No KIds Allowed) that only has members that are mature (at least in action if not age) and have been playing the game for more than a few weeks. So I think it is very common for long term players/supporters of games to be older than the average gamer.

PS My age is 37, and I am a proud member of team NKA

I agree with KingKoopa on this. I'm 15, and i've been playing Civ3 since it came out. Your stance is more immature than the "immature kids" who play it. *cough*

Sure, easy to learn not so easy to master...that's the point, whatever your age is : old and smart(?), young and newcomer(?) the results you get make you a satisfied gamer, but not only the high figures, there is something that you can either call "finesse" or "elegance", in other words winning in style is maybe more crucial than the victory itself. Here comes the Civ features : do they allow you to be elegant. I think yes but sometimes I feel just steaming against my vitual enemies...I don't mention the multiplayers' games as even with Civ (MPGE or PTW)the gaming experience is very seldom elegant. No "finesse" nor a far lookin' strat. Just brutality.

It's spelled immature ( ) and people who are very serious about the game tend to be mature. It takes a lot of concentration and dedication to run an empire. It also takes a great deal of intelligence and strategy to play, so you have to be sharp to play and enjoy it.

It could be interesting to discover that a lot of those "immature" are guys (or gals not so sure) running in their thirties or even more and I'm quite sure that teenagers who decided to enter in that type of game which in my opinion are comparable to chess or checkers are really deep thinking persons not already contaminated by the FPS and determined to stay so.

And you edited 'immature' :hmm:

Hi everyone,

French, 22 y.o and playing Civ since the beginning on atari ST (much better graphics/sounds than PC), then colonization, then civ2, then alpha centauri, then call to power, then civ3, then civ3ptw, then civ3 conquest, then civ4ever, then ...

Sid Meier ROX: this game offered SO MUCH liberty to the gamer that i've fell in love (same with Pirates!).

@San Pellegrino: eagles power ;)

32 in a few days...
'Mature'? Maybe, although debatable (and, in fact, debated among those who know me).
'Too old to play'... Doesn't really make sense, does it. Too what? To do what? ;)

Hi frenchy! you have done pretty well and as you expect the Civ's Saga to keep you on your toes, I'll bet that you will not be disappointed. By the way what do you think of Civ3 Conquest?
I missed it as I came back from US mid september and it was not already on the shelves. What can I add? I'm myself a froggy.
C'est rafraichissant de rencontrer des compatriotes qui pratiquent Civ intensément.
Keep on doing

Et vous jouez en français ou en anglais ?
For those not reading French, I was just asking if they prefer playing in English or in their mother tongue.

Definitly English.

I hate french version 'cos i don't understand it :D

a granary is a granary, that's it! Doesnt matter what it really means in french :p
since civ1, i've player in english, so i really can't change. It's the same from the other games like diablo2, counterstrike, morrowind, ultima (so even with long text to read)..

i didn't learn english at school, but playing games like ultima and civ :king:

Depends on many factors, mainly the availability of an Englo-American version here in France. I do prefer the original versions not for a languge problem, but it's easier and faster to get an efficient patch when needed. The "translated" version are frequently more bugged than the real thing, not to mention the patch problem. The main point is to practice whatever the age, Karasu is right, "too what?, to do what?"

We were lead to this thread by the assessment/question : "too old to play(?)" but reading some of the answers, a new quetion comes to the tip of my fingers on the keyboard : We are a lot of Civ addicted guys, we know everything about the age of players(this thread), about how to play it, new tricks or strategies und so weiter, but the new question which could be treated (on a new thread if needed) is why we love it. What is so special in the Meier's design and concept which drove us crazy about Civ (1,2 or 3 whatever). What is the very special mood which makes teenagers as some of you are and and "has been" seniors (like me) to meet just to discuss and argue if needed about that fascinating issue : "Civilization"
Are all of us on the tracks of Hammurabi, Ramses, Tseu Hsi Moctezuma or Stalin, Hitler and so many others? Or are we just playin' a game ? The question comes back viciously : why Civ more than Warcraft, Command and Conquer or even Call to the Power or Imperialism? Everything considered a game is just a game so why this one better than that one? Will it be interesting enough to open a new thread?

I'm 14 years and I played civ2 when I was 10 years old.
The game was in a paock of 3 cd's and I want 2 of them but not civ 2.
Now I play civ all the time!

[threadjack] There was one, not to long ago. Why are some games crazy about Civ?. There are others, I'm sure. [/threadjack]
