Top 10 combat rifles

Links and clicks are evil. Why don't you make Top 10 stuff like El Justo does ? :p

I've only had a Heckler & Koch assault rifle in my hands so I can't really tell which is the best, neither can the rest of you...

:p

Meh, I'm not convinced by the M-16.
I also feel that the Garand should be higher, the AK-47 replaced by the AK-74, and the Moisin Nagant should be on there.

Let me guess, AG3 in the military?

Anyway, from my limited knowledge of guns, I can't say anything on the list.

I detest the M16. Its propensity for jamming, and its lack of reliability in inclement weather, should keep it off this list altogether.

Not so sure about it jamming. Seems more myth than reality left over from the Vietnam War. But besides that its been in service with dozens of nations for 50 years, and in terms of numbers is only beat by the AK-47.

It definetly has a place on the list.

And just as many changes between the M16A2 and the other varients that other nations use.

I'm surprised the SKS isn't on that list and I wonder why the FAN-FAL and the AUG are on it

I have used the M16 before, jamming is a fact, in a range of 6 shooter, sure will have some jamming and shooter asking for help all the time. I myself encounter some double feeing and half feeding 1st hand.

The FN FAL isn't known as the "arm of the West" for nothing.

But your're right about the AUG. It has no business in the 10 ten much less the top 50. Its only major users are Austria, Australia, NZ and Ireland. I don't think it's even been fired in anger until a few years ago.

Sounds like a bad magazine.

That's correct Arne. [/Drillo mode]

You can see it in post #14 by Bugfatty, the 5th picture.

Out of some 2000 shots, it only jammed once. Don't know if that's good or not though.

Nice list, I agree the AUG has NO place on there.
Jamming on an M16 is possible, ive had it happen, but not that often. Most of the rifles ive used have jammed about as much.

My persoanly fav, HKMP5SD. I love it.
AK47 is great, durable as a hooker in vegas, and you cant kill them. Fun to shoot too. BUT you cant hit squat with them from the hip.

@ Bugfatty

nice list. i think you covered it very well. Im not sire that the Lee-Enfield SMLE should be there.. isnt it a rifle as upposed to a " assault rifle" like the rest of them?
But it is a great list.

But it is a great list.

Only two of them are assault rifles.

But the Lee-Enfield is probably the best bolt-action rifle to ever see the battlefield.

Mauser types were more popular due do the simplicity of the action and ease of manufacture. But honestly, who would choose a 5 round stripper-clip fed slow bolt action rifle over a 10 round magazine fed fast bolt action rifle?

The latest version of the British SA80 is meant to be as good as it gets I heard. However the early models were quite the opposite, strange eh ! :crazyeye:

Some notes about the Steyr:
I had military training with it and there are a few things to mention:
In the unit I served (800 soldiers) I never heard about jamming once.
It is very compact, 3.5 kg weight empty and can be dismanteled + manteled in just under 2 min -> very handy in the field
I think its precision is OK. In the 8 months during my service my rifle never had to be readjusted and I had like 95% to hit up to 300m distance.

But I guess aside from its robustness its design was the true reason it´s on the list + I think its sub-machine gun variant for special forces seems to be rather popular.
