Top 100 movies listed by Time magazine

This list is utter crap. Raiders of the Lost Ark has been omitted.
"Raiders of the Lost Ark" is absolutely terrific. I especially enjoy the character of Marion and it's sad they didn't took her again for the other episodes of the serie.

This being said. It's hard for me to know whether it's "Raiders of the Lost Ark" or "Indiana Jones and the last Crusade" which should be in the list. Indy's father is also a great character.

By the way, in my personnal top 100 list, I would also include "Der Untergang" (Downfall).

Here's the IMDb Bottom 100 : the worse movie of all times according to the mark given by their guests.

The only one I've seen from that Bottom 100 movies is "Street Fighter". And it definitly deserves to be in it.

They would probably count all three as one, like with the other trilogies/sequels.

it's not surprising that PH was ignored, it was a lousy movie.
Surely your opinion of me is not so low that you think I could seriously like that movie? :)

(Actually, it's not that bad of a love story IMO, but just the fact that it's a love story, set in 1942 Pearl Harbor, sickens me.)

Both of those lists are completely inaccurate because neither lists Animal House!

I hate those old films. They might have been good for their time, but it does not mean they don't suck.

I was forced to watch The Great Escape (not on the list thank God) in school, and it is more than a few decades old, and it was terrible. The acting was pathetic and the music chosen for the film was the cheesiest load of crap ever.

Riesstiu IV you're lord of the ring's views are so wrong that I deserve the right to flame you in the most immature manner. UR DUMM! AND GHEY! STFU -.-

All is forgiven if you watched them on a 19inch tv with closed captioning on mute, and the TV still made a hissing noise while people kept distracting you and making bad jokes.

But why was Drunken Master 2 on the list? It wasn't even a good Jackie Chan movie, just weird and depressing.

These should be there IMO:
The Yellow Submarine
Being There
Raise the Red Lantern
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
English Patient
Gosford Park
Battleship Potemkin
Solaris - first version

I second Being There. :goodjob:

you're right Das Boot definitely belongs on that list.

@MarineCorps: Why do you want old movies omitted? I do agree that there's a too strong focus on old movies on this list, but what you're suggesting is just the other extreme, IMHO. There are old movies that MUST be on this list.....

edit: oh, and may I suggest that Back to the Future absolutely belongs on that list? :)

If you're not familiar with the work of Pedro Almodóvar you should catch up there. Brilliant movies :)

I just checked the movie, the reason I didn't know it was that I only knew it by it's original title 'Hable con ella'. Haven't seen it yet though as it doesn't sound that it's my kind of movie, but maybe I'll check it out.

My top 100 includes:

2001
Barbarella
Casino Royal
Harry Potter I
Mary Poppins
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Sound of Music
The Time Machine
Yellow Submarine

I would add shawshank redemption, and empire of the sun. ET has a great place in there, jurassic park should also be, i dont know why everyone hates Steven Spiberg. I would also add a Nightmare on Elm Street and the Lion King (or atleast one animated movie) also maybe the First matrix (outstanding and anyone who says other wise is lieing) and Terrminator (to represent the first 2) and if a bigger list, the first batman, superman and Back to the future, indiana jones and the life of brian

I prolly fail to understand how the Times can come up with such a crappy, biased list:
1) Obviously, they tried to avoid listing some directors too often, even if they'd absolutely deserve it - Kubrick.
2) No sense for commedy (Brazil is hardly funny, though I like it).
3) No sense for the real classics - Metropolis? Great Dictator? M?
4) No realistic war movies - Apocalypse? Path of Glory? Boot?
5) And the most obvious: A complete weird selection of non-English movies. Kurosawa. Berlin Alexanderplatz? Ouch. Faßbinder didn't make many worse movies...

Like someone said already: What's really odd is how accurate the IMDB list is OTOH (ignoring the recent entries; I like the LotR movies, but they hardly deserve 2 entries in the top ten).

Though actually, I fail to understand what's so great about Shawshank Redemption. Don't think that movie was anywhere celebrated outside US (not a bad movie, don't get me wrong; but only of local interest IMHO). AFAIK, it was a flop in Germany and especially France - we simply have no such prisons.

The list would be very small and the quality greatly diminished if you excluded pre-1970 movies.

Ha! Old movies are just :ack: With strong thoughts to silent and black and white films in that ack.

Agreed on Apocalypse. Working with a stoned and delirious Hopper during the nightmare of making this movie should alone be enough.

I like in the bottom 100 from IMDB, there are three Police Academy movies. Why did they even bother after the first three?

With the top 250, why is LOTR: TROTK so high up? That is a piece of rubbish compared to the other two movies.

Deserving movies that should be on there

Cinema Paradiso
Meditteraneo
Shawshank Redemption
Das Boot
Ben Hur
