So the Torment sequel is up on Kickstarter, where it will likely top a million within the day. It's strangely mesmerizing to hit F5 over and over to see the numbers go up.

I admit I have just barely started Planescape: Torment but I like what I see.

Hope this will be awesome. The pen and paper Numenera RPG looks good too.

That being said, these super early kickstarters are starting to be ridiculous. This one says it'll come out in december 2014, why not just say 2015. Jeez, let's exagerate and say that paying 30$ for it in 2015 will be the same as 20$ now because of inflation ;) Might not be that far if you do a good investment of your current 20$ instead...

So it made its total in zero time flat...it's kinda gratifying to see there's still so much love out there for PST, which is objectively the Best Game Ever Made

Of course the chances of any sequel living up to this sort of hype and weight of expectation are pretty much nil, but hey I backed it anyway. Human Revolution turned out pretty damn well, so you never know. If nothing else, it sends a message that we want More Of This Sort Of Thing Please.

So the Torment sequel

If I am reading the link correctly, this new game is clearly stated as not a sequel to PS:T

It's strangely mesmerizing to hit F5 over and over to see the numbers go up.

You weren't kidding. Although I'm not sure I should be surprised; it fills a niche in the market that has been largely ignored for the last decade. I haven't even played the first game* and I'm tempted to throw money at them.

*Haven't played Half-life series either--another often cited as best in genre. I should really get around to playing some of these games before someone pulls my gamer card.

It's very sad that they (had to?) abandon the Planescape setting, but they seem to understand what makes Planescape special and hopefully Numenera will have it too.

What ruleset are they using?

I love everything about Planescape except for the rules. Every fiber of my being is offended by the AD&D 2nd rules ( even though I've played under them before. ) I'm totally behind this unless I start seeing irritating BS like THAC0, exceptional strength and Save versus Blue Ferret Ice Darts or w/e.

Does this Numenera have its own "crunch" rules?

It's a Planescape-like setting but it's not Planescape, unfortunately, because of Wizards of the Coast owning copyright. But yes, Numenera has its own crunch rules that won't have D&D baggage.

Cool. I love the AD&D fluff but the crunch makes me want to shoot the entire contents of my digestive tract out of both ends at the same time.

There are a huge variety of table-top RPG games on the market, and it's sad that only D&D gets attention. Anyway, table-top RPGs have come a long way since AD&D, and even the old-school style games that are getting released these days do away with some of the minute annoyances of AD&D like reversed Armor Class and weird Thac0 system.

That being said, if I'm not wrong, this Torment game will be using the ruleset of another table-top RPG, which also has just been crownd funded.

Meet Numenera: The RPG

Yeah, I started looking at RPG rulesets for the first time in seven or eight years the other day, actually. It's amazing how much cleaner the mechanical part of the games has gotten.
