GAME RESTARTED - See post #187

TOS is a WW2 Pacific scenario.

Cartwheel was the code name for the Allied reconquest of the
Solomons.

The NEW player line up is:

Eric_A - Japan

El_Tigre - Commonwealth

Misfit - USA

AKSully - playing both China and the Netherlands

Special rules:
No city razing
Guerillas cannot be loaded on transports
Limit of 4 air units per airbase
No city trading (except back to the original owner)
Only fighters, dive bombers, torpedo bombers, fighter bombers and
ASW aircraft can be loaded on carriers

Eric, What setup things do I need to do other than just start the game? Just want to make sure I get this thing going correctly! Have been looking forward to this! Do we want to email or post here a summary of our turn's combat resolution to keep players informed of what happened?

Sully

Turn reports should be posted in this thread. You should note down which units
you killed, and preferably with what you killed them. You're not bound to inform
us about your losses, but some general comments would be nice. Some notes
about bombardment, especially with airplanes, would be appreciated, too,
because it really makes a difference for your enemy if he looses a fleet to
bombarding BBs or to waves of Torpedo Bombers.

Screenshots are highly appreciated, but not necessary at all. Just make sure
that they're either a bit old or edit out classified data. This tool might be helpful:

Sully:
Setup instructions:

1 Start the civ program, select multiplayer
2 Change game mode from standard to scenario, select the TOS_MP_LONG file
3 Rename player 1 to your name.
4 Add 4 more human players, enter our names.
5. Hit launch button

Send me the admin password in case we need to find a replacement
player for you. We are on the honor system to never use that password
unless we have to replace someone.

I forgot to mention in the above post we are going to try the LONG
scenario this time. I doubt the game will go all the way to 1945, if
one side believes the situation in hopeless they should resign.

Use "El_Tigre_CH" for China and "El_Tigre_NL" for the Netherlands; the MP setup
doesn't like the same player name for two different civilizations.

Gentlemen..The game has been launched!

Emperor Sully

I want to remind everyone to post a GPS message with combat results
after they send their turn to the next player.

Sully, here is an example of a typical message:

Played and sent

I-21 (Sub) north of Pearl sunk by bombers.

Stack north of Manila bombarded.

Tank northeast of Manila destroyed by GI.

Transport south of Guam sunk by sub.

Eric

Hey guys..I hope this message gets through. Must be problems with the server. Anyhow..My thoughts on a couple of things. If you want to go with trading cities then I'm fine with that as long as we can raze cities. Otherwise leave as it.

As to the post turn summary I'm good with that with an exception. I think saying Transport south of guam sunk by sub I-27 gives up too much of operational security. Saying so actually takes away a subs stealth capability. I propose to say in my summary....Transport south of Guam sunk. The action is posted along with results yet operational security is maintained.

Is there a way to access the windows taskbar to open another program like a screen capture or word processor while playing C3C? As it is now, if I want to open a WP to list results then I have to close out C3C. Suggestions!

I'm crabby from the flu and if I make no sense or crazy moves....blame it on lack of sleep, a hacking cough, and my first dose of a cough suppressant! I will be better tomorrow!

Once a sub makes an attack it gives away it's position to the
enemy, so you should say what is attacking. It is also important
to know for example if you were attacked by dive bombers, rather than
land based bombers.

Which reminds me of another rule about what type of planes can
be loaded on carriers, I will add that to the first post.

City trading is NOT allowed, except to trade a city back to it's
original owner.

Razing is NOT allowed.

Thanks Eric, Well this is my first time with a MP game...I had completed all my city production moves, completed the strike against PH and China and then went to save the game as a major thunderstorm with strong winds, hail, lightning etc is about 15 miles from Abilene and heading right for us! So I dedicded to save the game and shut down until this thing blows over. Well surprise it saved it and said to email it as my turn is now over!!!!!!! BALLS!!!! I've wasted the last hour. I tried to load the save and its for Misfit!!! Well guys....I'm sorry..but you'll have to wait to tomorrow as I wiill have to start all over! Time to shut down..winds are really picking up and the booming is getting louder. Sorry. Check your weather links and zoom to Abilene and see how bad this storm is. Ok thats it Im outNOW!

Well the storm for now passed us by and dropped a tornado north of Abilene! Thanks God its mostly rural areas where it hit. I've never played PBEM MP before so this is new for me. I didn't know that if you're still in your turn, save, and exit that it goes to the next player. Since I slept some this aft, I try to get this done tonight.

Sully

No problem, just move your units in approximately the same order as the first
time.

I had to replay a turn once, too. I ended my turn (hit space after all
units had been moved), but then decided to close the "exit and save or
continue to play" pop-up by clicking on cancel, because I found one more
unit I wanted to move. The next thing I saw was the "enter your password"
screen for the next player, so I had to close the game. I don't know if it is
my version/computer or a general PBEM bug, but I advice you to always click
on save and exit.

Another bug is that your screen will be initially black when you load the save
and all these messages about build completions / happiness / ... are
displayed. Oh, and the save contains not only game data, but the
preferences of the previous player, too, so don't be surprised if your general
settings are different than before.

Hey Guys, Just getting back online. Sorry I wasn't able to complete my turn last night. The storms kicked back up and it was pretty rugged.

So ET let me get this right. If I am unable to complete my turn in one sitting, and I hit the save and exit, I will be able to load the save and resume where I left off? Because when I hit save and exit I thought I saw where it said to email the game to Misfit.

Anyhow, I plan to get started now and complete my first turn.

Sully

I have to say that I agree with aksully with regard to reporting. I'd prefer generalized statements like:

Transport W of Truk sunk by naval combat

or

DD E of Truk sunk by aircraft

Dive and Torpedo bombers can be based on land or carrier, so who's to know where they came from in the first place? (Besides your opponent can count, so if there was aircraft bombardment and there are no suitable land bases nearby, they'd have to have come from a carrier somewhere).

A unit damaged or destroyed by naval combat could be by sub or other surface ship. If the opponent really wants to know, they can send air or naval units into the last known position to find out.

I'd like a little more "fog of war" approach. Its likely that people playing the scenario after us won't be quite so detailed about turn reporting. Let's simulate how we'd anticipate the scenario being used.

Word to the wise for aksully, you're playing 3 pretty good tacticians so you should expect coordinated activity. Don't assume that we will ever make moves as stupid as the AI. (That's the only mercy offering we'll show you).

Sully:
Because multiplayer was added as an afterthought, and not designed in
from the start, you CANNOT save a turn in progress in PBEM mod; unless
someone has written some sort of utility that can do this.

Don't worry about playing your turn exactly the same, since it was the
first turn and we have no idea what you did, feel free to change your
mind!
