Anything but Medieval Total War - it's the buggiest piece of rubbish I've ever come across (this isn't just me - just do a search for "crash to desktop" with medieval total war, for example).

And it's not just the machine, I've tested this on 4 different computers, with different makes of motherboards, chipsets, operating systems and five different graphics cards (from ATI, Intel, NVIDIA, VIA and ancient Voodoo Banshee). There are a wide variety of bugs, often leaving the game unuseable - including crashing to desktop, getting stuck in an endless loop in the menu system, not being able to pass a certain year, not being able to select units, and graphics corruption. Some people report success on a particular Intel chipset if you stick with old drivers, but often there's no fix. The makers have refused to fix the bugs - there was only one patch years ago which didn't help at all.

I haven't tried any of the others - but I'm not sure I want to waste my money again.

nice double post. But anyway, RTW and M2TW don't crash unless you run out of hardrive space like I did:( .

Blame the forum software - double posts seem to appear when it's lagging (which seems to be much of the time now...).

Okay, now I'm getting Rome. I was going to get Medieval II, but now that Rome is winning the poll by 2 votes (1, if you don't count me).

I would strongly suggest getting Med: II for gameplay. But if the Roman history is more your style, by all means buy RTW.

If you are going to get Rome - TW, I suggest that you also get Rome - Total Realism off the 'net. The maps are bigger, there are more cities in each area, and generally it is better than the original. RTW - Barbarian Invasion is a real nice idea (who does not like the idea of resurecting the Roman Empire?) but is really hampered by the real lack of cities.

True. The lack of cities is a real downer, but nothing disastrous. You can still have fun rebuilding, or tearing down the empire. :whipped:

good thing you're getting M2TW. I have both, but the last time I played Rome was before I got Medieval II.

Shogun is the best . the most original one .
if you more into graphic jusst wait for empire :D play some Civ in the mean time :))

So did you ever buy one Swein?

I would play Kingdoms, but by installing it I pushed my hardrive so far I can't play certain parts due to lack of memory.

I was pondering the question a couple months ago. My answer: get TW:Eras, all TW games up to RTW and expansion packs for just a couple bucks more than Rome and it's two x-packs. It was worth it (and makes voting impossible and, unnecessary :goodjob:).

Empires isn't out yet. I got Eras for $35 American plus free shipping. :p

yeah, that's the only reason I didn't get it..... that and that I'm broke since buying BTS!!!!!!:D

RTW and its expansions are out on budget and M2TW Gold has just been released, so you cna probably get all of them for not much more than the price f one new game.

STW and tthe original MTW both have problems with the infamous Nvidia 8xxx Vista drivers, if that's a factor, RTW and M2TW are fine.
