TR04 - Losers vs 5CC deity

Early: Declare on Iroquois and start bombing. Hire a scientist and turn lux down.

Mid: Hittites demand chivalry, and thus declare. Bummer. Then Spain declares. Lux goes way down. We take some slaves and raze Valladolid, clearing our island. No losses. Gunpowder comes in, and we have salt on our island, but it's near the 2nd iron outside our borders, just east of that volcano.

Late: Just a bunch of bombing, no losses. Dromons miss a lot. Kill a few Spanish and Iro galleys.

We're at war with all our immediate neighbors: Spain, Iroquois, and Hittites. The Iroquois will talk, but they want concessions. There are 2 main squads of dromons around, one hitting the Iroquois, the other hitting the Hittites. They miss a lot.

Education has been discovered, we'll get it from the GL next turn. Sistine in 3. I had our northern squad heading toward Oil Springs when the Hittites declared, so I kept them up there to bomb. I figured that's ok; since the Iroquois had only 3 turns left of GA at the beginning of my turns, we were actually leading the Sitine race.

Not sure what to do next. I'd like to get a big stack of dromons together, land some toops, bomb and burn cities. But I'm not sure if that's possible.

Teh Save

That saltpeter won't come into the borders anytime soon if ever. I'd suggest getting a worker to road to it and build a colony.

It's nice that they have declared on us, due to the reverse WW. Also we can keep sinking their boats and let them continue to build units. Eventually they'll hit their unit support limit and not build anymore boats. (Disclaimer: Stategy from Handy's AWS)

Yeah, that's what I figured we'd do. But we don't need salt yet, so I held off on doing so for now. I'd rather use the worker upgrading cities. Also, I didn't want to chance putting a colony next to a volcano before we had to.

Since we get edu next turn, we might want to switch at least some of our unit builds to uni. Maybe all -- we have enough dromons and knights to protect ourselves.

Also I forgot to mention I was peeling workers out of Constantine when its food bin got full. Next player can continue this, or sell the granary.

Speaking of which, who's next?

Good thought on the Volcano thing. The granary sell would be good once all cities are up to 12 and there are a couple of workers available for the eventual colony. It wouldn't hurt to start roading to the salt. I'd suggest multiple routes to the salt just in case of volcano and/or pillage risk.

What, getting to watch one turn set a week isn't enough to satisfy your Civ addiction?

Got it.

Oopsie... sorry was long time away from civilization.
I will try to play next time around.

No. I expect you guys to play every night ;) I just knew that dman has a big project going on at work & didn't think that he'd have time.

@dman, You can go after MM if you have time. Let us know though.

i'll skip this time around but it looks like my work load is downgrading and i should be able to dedicate more time to my fav. game in just a week or so. :mischief:

Hmm, just in time for SGOTM7 to kick off!

@ Tubby - with all the free time you've got, can you figure out the non mapstat parts of Civreplay and explain how to work 'em? Igor wants to know. :)

Not too much exciting happened on my turns, really. So let me start off with this funny joke Gandhi greeted me with when I pressed Enter:

TR04-Gandhi.jpg

Of course, the very next message (after I told Gandhi where he could stick his 1500 gold pieces) was that we had discovered Education from the GL.

Then, a couple of turns later, I received the following piece of good news:

TR04-Sistine.jpg

Aside from that, not too much happened. I built a round of universities, and then focused on dromons. Considering the number of units the AIs are shuffling around on their islands, our token force of knights isn't going to make much of a dent. So let's keep building dromons and pillaging the coasts. I'm not sure we ever need to invade our neighbors, really - just keep them off our island and go for a diplo win or something.

So I blew up some improvements and sank a few ships. I sent our northern force of dromons into Spanish waters; I think Spain is a much bigger threat than the Hittites are. We're still at war with all three neighbors, but their demands are going down, so maybe we can make peace soon. I don't know how much we really want peace at this point, though - our casualty count is zero, so WW isn't a problem, and it's nice to be able to sink the ships that are sent our way. And pillaging coastal improvements might slow the AI down a bit.

I peeled another worker out of Constantinople and, since our workers are running out of things to do, merged a couple of workers into cities that were growing slowly. I recommend we keep the granary in Const; it's only 1 gpt, and it's nice to have a city we can get workers from if we want.

Two or three of the others have started Copernicus's, so Astronomy is obviously spreading. I haven't tried to buy it yet, but it's probably worth considering. We were far enough along in our minimum run on Printing Press that I just let it keep going. Not sure if that was the best idea, now that I think about it.

Anyway, roster check:

You betcha!!! I've thought about going and looking for my CD, but then I get distracted.

Sure. I'll write up a tutorial or something do you have a preference of order??? Also Civ Assist II came out just a few weeks ago and it looks awesome. Obviously (as with every piece of software) there are some initial bugs, but it looks like it will run MapStat out of town. The thread is here.

SO we have an AWD?

Has anybody ever done AWD Deity into Space?

Got it.

No unless you can call honeydoos and daughters, a game.

I guess Theo is on her way to Space as the 20K idea didn't pan what with the chap[el in Niceae.

So here's the log (but where's my sign?)

With all that money in the bank and none needed for entertainment, light the fires under the alchemists and head for Printing Press.

Don't see much harm in using war to keep the Iro and Spain under control so make no peace treaties, yet. And the Hittites have no money so TS Mursilis.

But in 680 I seriously mishandle the navy and the land troops, the Spainish land at Niceae with a pike and a mace and I lose the city birefly.

In 690 retake Niceae and learn Printing Press which turns out to be worthless as Spain and Iro have learned it. India doesn't have it but won't trade anything meaningful for it. So I sell it to India for 603g and move on to researching Chemistry at maximum.

By 730AD I have grown tired of wrecking the Iroquois road to the saltpeter and horses and watching them rebuild it next turn with their army of workers. Same goes for Spain and we need to get back in the world economy. And all three of those nations we are at war with have scads of heavy defense and offense running around so a landing would be suicidal. So peace with Spain for some coin then peace with the Iro for some coin then I trade them horses whiile I can for some cash, then trade some horses and luxuries to the Indians for gems and more money. Then buy Astronomy from him for the cash pile. Then take a gold piece off the Hittites for peace.

The lux deals plus peace allow for 0 entertainment spending

The Indians have planted a couple of outposts, one in NW, one in the NE.

I gave the Iro an RoP as part of the peace deal so the fleet could get home without hassle.

The research is running at 100% -123 gpt with 5 to go and 538 in the kitty after whoring maps around and selling Astronomy to Egypt.

The big dogs have gone for Navigation so the run at Chemistry has promise, we won't get Copernicus but we have a good shot at Newton's if you start a pre-build in Adrianople.

If we're shooting for space I take it that means run for Espionage, and start stealing stuff.
