I'm playing as Hiawatha so borders should act as roades, and they have till now. Suddenly all trade routes broke? Why? Does the trait become absolete at som point. CivPedia only tell me mostly history.

Did you just build a harbour in your capital? I get that trade route broken message whenever a city that was previously connected by roads gets connected by sea. The trade routes are still there though. So the trade routes aren't broken, just that message is :)

Borders do not act as roads. Forests within your borders act as roads. Sounds like you may have an automated worker or accidentally broke the chain of forests that lead to your capital.

I never automate workers in CiV, and my forrests are still there. But I thought it was borders so thanks for the heads up.

Still I get gold form trade routes, so it looks like a message bug.

You can check what cities are connected exactly using the strategic view. Select the trade route filter and it will paint everything connected by traderoutes

Go into strategic view and enable the trade routes overlay. All forests/roads that form routes should be highlighted in yellow. I think it also highlights the city tile itself in yellow if it's connected to the capital, and doesn't highlight it if not.

EDIT
ah, xpost with kaltorak

I got the message that all my trade routes had been disconnected after completing a road from my capital to a city state. Didn't affect my gold income though.

yea, this is a notification bug...when the game recalculates a trade route, after you make a new path or build railroad/harbor, you get a 'trade route disconnected message'. It's not a big deal though

Akwesasme doesn't have a forest route. My guess is that Onondaga and Grand River have harbors in them. Civ always calculates the trade routes using the shortest possible path, and from harbor to harbor only counts as one hop. Redundant routes aren't shown.

Just reiterating what atteSmythe said, all those cities except Akwesasme have a trade route to the capital (you can tell because the city tiles themselves are highlighted yellow (and he therefore deduced you have some harbors in action). There isn't an unbroken route of forests from Akwesasme to the other road/forest network and presumably it has no harbor either. To connect it, all you'd need to do is build a road on one of the two forestless tiles to the northwest of Philadelphia. You can 'fill the gaps' in forests with roads.

When harbors are constructed you get the "Trade Route Broken" Message.
I belive it has something to do with the coding...

Ie: Water trade routes are more important than roads, so the game cancels the land traderoute. (Thus the Trade Route Broken message) but then reconnects the water route.

In the end, nothing changes.
