I acquire a World map without trading mine and I have met all the civs in the game w/o trading contact to the other civs on my continent. If I trade my world maps to an off continent civ do they automatically get contact rights with the other civs on my continent?

No, they don't. (Did you know that if you try to just put "No." a message box pops up and tells you your message is too short? I did not.)

Umm.......... is right

As for you "umm", there now has to be at least 10 characters to post (counter spam..)

On a side note, does anyone know if the knowledge of the map help the AIs contact each other? And that ten character thing probably produces more spam than it prevents. (Like me typing this now)

EDIT: As suggested, *picture* 666. :)

@Tomoyo: Look! You have 666 posts! Take a picture!

I don't think the AI having the map is any great help to it, but I'm not sure. The AI knows the map at the beginning of the game, though it is supposed to pretend it doesn't. In practice, when I've been first to Astronomy or The Great Lighthouse, I've seen the AI wait for me to discover a territory they theoretically couldn't get to, then swarm it as soon as I find it.

So I think they sort of wait for you to discover first, before they acknowledge that they know where something is. So whether you share the map or not, once you've discovered something, they too will know where it is.

I agree that they know but I don't know wether they exploit that knowledge. Think about how many times that scout comes out of the fog 10 turns into the game. They beeline directly to the other civs. I've had games where I met the other civ in about 5 turns and they have already met 1 or 2 other ones.

I was just playing a game (PtW) where an expansionist civ had a scout roaming near and then past a 3rd civ and they never made contact. So i sold contact asap :)

In another game (C3C), once i got navigation and a map, i could see where the Inca made a straight as an arrow course thru the FoW to settle on an offshore island.

The AI doesn't deal with FoW. It already sees the entire map and all resources/luxuries (including ones it doesn't have the technology for yet), as well as where all your units are. It apparently just cannot act on that knowledge where initiating or trading contacts is concerned.

@ IglooDude: I like that quote of yours.

(This isn't spam. If I posted this message 10 times, it would be - hence, spam is not defined by quality, but quantity. Therefore, I think you should be able to write simply "no")
