Treasure Fleets

I haven‘t verified this over a larger sample, but in my sole game it seemed that all treasure resources were either not too far from the coast or a navigable river. However, careful with the latter: I built fishing mole (or was it a quai?) in a lake tile, and the fleet spawned there with no chance to get it home.
Important facts:
- You need a fishing quai to produce treasure fleets
- The fleet will spawn on the fishing quay (so don't botch the placement^^)

I've got a whole bunch of treasure fleet resources here that can't get out:

I wish the gold reward for bringing home a treasure fleet was more substantial. I think after the first fleet, which was maybe 300 for me, it dropped down to 100 gold?

Based on discussion earlier in this thread it sounds like a treasure fleet brings home 100 gold for every resource improved in the settlement that spawned it.

I‘m not sure this is how it is calculated. I had at least one treasure fleet bringing only 25 gold.

Unreachable inland treasure resources aren't any different than the unreachable fish and whales 10 tiles out to sea in Civ6 or Civ5. You'll live despite your OCD.

All of my treasure fleets gave only 1 point and 100 gold, even though some came from the local islands and some came from the distant lands. So I don't get it.

I managed 5, but it was due to a truly ridiculous enemy capital that I captured. Even with that, I started too late in the age to manage even the first economic milestone.
I had 4 sources at end, but AI got relics 3-4 times faster for legacy end.

Anyone won with treasures?

 Are there no pirates and privateers in Civ 7 ?

It's truly shocking how you could miss such an easy lay-up

You're telling me Firaxis went through all these effort to create distinct themed historical ages and then in their exploration age themed around european colonization complete with treasure ships, there is no ability to create privateers or engage in piracy outside of declaring a full blown war 🤦‍♂️.

Of note: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/asset-file-hinting-at-future-and-or-cut-content.695000/

Quite a bit of piracy-related stuff there.

I hope they change this so that any Coastal Urban District suffices. I built a Quay to fulfill the milestone quest, but then spent many turns wondering why another settlement with a Wharf wasn't spawning Treasure Fleets...

Honestly, I hope they do not. It messes up the theme of "New World" resources coming to destroy 1000's of years worth of bland food/cuisine. I'm a historian so I am biased, but that's just my 2 cents.

Geography matters. In my first game, I had two treasure resources on the islands just off my coastline (Continents Plus map). When the fleet spawyned, it brought 2 points into the homelands with only one move. I managed to get 20 pts, but the age ended before I could get 30.

Would love to hear any other stories of successfully getting treasure fleets from inland towns connected via roads to coastal settlements.

I fully expect us to get privateers at some point, or a pirate civ.

I believe the gold you get is = to the points that the fleet is worth x100.

yes, in my last game - I settled two towns - 1 with 1 treasure resource and 1 with 4 where an AI settled very close so I had to buy urban tiles over rural tiles so I could avoid them taking the tiles

It feels like you need to get 5 resources to get the golden age
soon after I also got the science legacy and then the age immediately ended

I played as Ibn Battuta - Aksum into Songhai on Viceroy difficulty

in my game as Hatshepsut I came 1 point short - I also had 5 resources at the end but much later in the game. Started only with two and then it's a really slow grind

Yup. Every resource is worth one point, every fleet gives 1 victory point and 100 gold per point.

Well that won't be an issue for me then, in my current game. I've got 10 resources connected already (although two conquered cities are still in revolt), and with some border expansions plus two cities I've already got the settlers for, plus the integration of a city state that's currently ongoing, I'll be getting another 9. Plus I've kind of got my eye on two more AI cities that would be good for a combined 8 resources if I were to go for them.

EDIT: Just finished Exploration. On normal game speed, I got 61 treasure fleet points in 100 turns (and also completed all other legacy paths). Didn't end up going for the extra conquests and missed out on two resources by less than five turns each, still ended up getting some 2 treasure fleet points per turn on average by the end of the Era.

yes correct - 100 gold per treasure fleet point

Gold needs to be "nerfed" a bit in exploration age at least - I am always swimming in it

It wasn't until late in the exploration that I finally felt like I wasn't struggling for gold. I think it varies a lot based on your civs and progress, how aggressively you use it, and what other bonuses you get.

I fear that, compared to the other legacy paths, the exploration economic one is the most based on luck... If you are not lucky enough there might be only one or two treasure ressources in the islands, and conquering the AI on the shores can be rather difficult early since you units can't cross without being damaged (and early cogs have a measly 1 tile range...)...

Too bad you don't seem to be able to trade the treasure ressource, and have the fleet spawn in the closest fishing quay situated in the distant lands...

I got 1 treasure fleet, but don‘t know how. 😂 So how do I get a second one? I have a distant land city with more than 1 ressource which appears to be a treasure. But a fleet can‘t be build in city production?
