Is there anyway to program a worker to build trenches like in WW1? That would be cool for something other than fortresses.

I think some old vets would dispute that trenches are "cool".;)

trenches are assumed to be present when an Infantry unit is fortified.

ah okay, thanks.

BTW, Park Ranger, you know what I meant! :), also, I doubt there are any WW1 vets that play civ3....

Trech warfare also happened in the Korean War. When the war stalled around the 38th parallel, both sides dug in with trenches. After that, it was grinding attrition until the cease-fire.

Sure!

All you need to do is make new graphics for the "fortress" improvement that look like trenches when strung together. I can't see why this wouldn't work.

That is what I thought!

Don't ask me if I know how to do it though, 'cause I haven't the faintest clue.

they do, but not nearly as big as in civ2. Its like 25% unmodded i think.

Note: build your cities and fortresses on hills and I believe that you get an additional defense/offense bonus. (I repeatedly lost battles to conscript units using elite modern armor in just this way until I figured it out.)

PS: and ALWAYS attack from hills if possible.

PS2: bombard enemy units until they are in the red, then attack them with conscript units . . . usually upgrades them to 'regular'. ;) ES

Trenches, foxholes, you name it, digging in is standard procedure in most wars... During WWI it almost became a reflex.
We stop-we dig in. Logical, no?

It's really a shame the "temporary fortress" image from civ2 isn't present in this game. It would have been fairly easy to modify that to reflect a trench network or a foxhole. Wouldn't it?
