Troubleshooting and F.A.Q.

I'm glad I've been able to experience a wide variety of crashes, at least. I made it through that last game without any crashes but just had one in a newer game. I've attached the report. It was running smoothly before abruptly sending me to the desktop. Thanks again for being so responsive.

That's a crash I've seen before. I think I've fixed it for 1.23, but I'm not certain.

I'll be posting the 2nd beta this coming weekend.

Xyth, sorry to keep on like this, but I downloaded the beta and now can't load HR. I unzipped the beta file and moved the "History Rewritten" folder (I kept this name and deleted the old HR folder) to the Mods folder where I had the old version, but when I try loading HR, I get a GFC error about not being able to load the primary theme and it crashes. I tried reinstalling Civ 4, BTS, and HR, but it's still doing the same thing.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Check that there isn't a second History Rewritten folder inside the one you placed in the mods folder. Some unarchivers create a new folder for the unarchived contents. The path to the .ini file should be /Mods/History Rewritten/History Rewritten.ini with no extra folders in between.

Also check that there isn't an extra space at the end of the folder name.

Hi,

I'm playing your great mod on Mac OSX and everything seems to work fine so far except cities which stop growing at some point. As a result there is "growing in 0 turns" message on a city (the city size number is green and there is enough food and health for the next size to come) which keeps hanging forever with no change in the city population whatsoever. There are some few random cities which still grow and I can't tell what makes them still growing.

Thanks up front for your reply!

Best Regards,
Aleks

Avoid Growth now switches on automatically when a city is about to get unhappy or unhealthy. It doesn't switch off automatically though, you have to do that yourself on the city screen.

It's a bit awkward and I'm working on a better solution, or at least to let the player switch this behaviour on or off.

Are the earth maps compatible with a >18 civ DLL? I installed this and it works fine with random maps but the game crashes every time i try it with a scenario. If not, how do I make it so it works?

I just started playing your mod and I noticed something that might be a bug or it's a feature that is undocumented:

My resources stone and marble are not connected even though they are connected :)

You can see the tiles have queries and roads and the roads are connected to the capital or a river that is connected to the capital. The later one might not work because I don't have sailing yet (enables trade on rivers) but I'm not sure because the game gave me the "first city connected to capital" popup already. Plus: Corn is already connected which is next to the same river and has no roads. So I guess sailing isn't really needed.

So, why doesn't anything show up? Need stone for Mids :(

Edit: added save

Edit2: It's the same since 2 turns

It's because of one of the default Religious Tenets -- Idolatry removes access to Stone and Marble until you choose a state religion and switch away from it.

Hi Xyth,

I really enjoy the History Rewritten mod...only problem is I haven't been able to play a full game, since each game crashes on my platform (2012 Macbook Pro; Civ graphics turned down as low as can go). I just downloaded the most recent HR version -- hoping it would fix it -- but to no avail.

Here's the top info from the crash log...could it be something with Python? (I re-installed Python a while back before Aspyr apparently fixed the issue).

Thank you for any help! Would love to play more of your mod!

Not many clues in that crash report unfortunately. How far into your game is this happening? Does it happen at the same point every time after reloading? What game settings are you using (mapsize, etc)? Please enable logging (see the first post of this thread), recreate the crash and post your whole Logs folder. That will hopefully give some better insight.

Hey, I've been playing this fantastic mod for a while now, and I've really been loving it. However, I have experienced a crash on my game on the same turn, even when I've gone back into my autosaves and replayed the turns it has crashed. I've attached the logs in the post.

Thank you for your help resolving this problem, your mod is truly fantastic, and I enjoy it very much.
